Fedora Installation :: Unable To Boot After Install F10

Jan 17, 2009

Just installed a fresh copy of F10. After install, when I boot It goes through a screen where it shows 3 bars loading. Once the last bar (white) is finished, and fedora 10 becomes white, nothing happens. If i press any key, it will give me a msg saying something along the lines of "reading contents of drive vol000 this make take a while". I rebooted after 2 hours. When i came back, I waited 8 hours.

Fedora Installation :: F13 Unable To Boot Install DVD On Acer Aspire 5738Z

Jul 23, 2010

I have F11 running on my Acer laptop and I'd like to install F13 on a newly created partition.I have downloaded the DVD install a couple of days ago and tried to boot it using different options, but always failed. Below my attempts:

1) first option (Install or upgrade): it took a looooong time (like 4 or 5 hours) to get to the Loading vmlinuz message; after a couple more hours it was still there (with 4 or 5 dots more) and I decided that enough was enough;

2) second option (basic video driver): I tried it with and without the nomodeset option and in both cases the Loading vmlinuz message was immediate, but couldn't get past it;

3) first option (Install or upgrade) with the nomodeset option: again the Loading vmlinuz message was immediate, it added up to 10 or 11 dots and then hung;

4) I also tried to boot the same DVD on another laptop (just to rule out media problems) and quickly reached the first install screen, so the DVD is ok I think.

Note that in ALL the above described attempts, when the boot process hang I see my HD led constantly on and also the DVD led flashing.

General :: Unable To Boot Into Windows Vista Installation And Only Boot Fedora

Jan 28, 2010

Having a major issue with my laptop. I am unable to boot into my Vista installation.I am currently posting this through my Fedora 11 installation which I had already. If anyone is interested, the BSOD error is:

0x0000007B (0x80399BB0, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

As far as I know, a '7B' BSOD is usually a hard disk error but I am 100% sure the HDD is fine as I can read and write from both Fedora and Knoppix without issue. Steps taken so far: Obviously, I have tried the usual steps of trying to start windows in safe mode, last good config, and all of the F8 options. When they failed, I used fedora to check for some solutions online (Mostly useless answers from MS) and I found one successful case when a person flashed his BIOS back to an earlier time. Unfortunately, I cant get the BIOS update I got from the Dell website to boot from a USB drive (Says invalid boot disc - the BIOS on it is in the .exe format which I can't use in linux) and I do not have a floppy drive on the laptop.

So, I put in my Dell drivers and utilities CD hoping that it would give me some option to update (Or roll back) the BIOS but there was no such option. However, it did give me a load of diagnostic options including repair options by symptom so went with the "Unable to boot from BIOS". Unfortunately, that didnt help me at all. So, I got my Vista installation disc (OEM supplied) and managed to get to the repair menu (Which I had among my F8 options anyway) but this also has the option to reinstall. Unfortunately, it states that "Upgrade is unavailable" and that a clean install is the only thing I can select (At the expense of my files and settings).

As for the repair options, the automatic recovery doesn't seem to find any errors, asks to reset and see if all is well (It isn't). For some reason, system restore doesn't detect any restore points. There are no windows memory errors detected and I have no backups. So, i'm left with a command prompt that, by default, is asking for a file in this folder: X:/WINDOWS/System32/ I have no idea where it is getting the X: drive from - I have C and D drives for windows only. As per another online guide, I tried:

Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To CD Boot For Non-Wubi Install

Dec 27, 2010

I've been unable to do a non-Wubi install of U 10.10 desktop 32 bit. My setup:

HP p6240f , Intel Core2 Quad Q8300 2.5 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 1333 MHz FSB

Currently, I have a clean install of Windows XP (updated) on my desktop. Previously, I used a clean install of Windows 7, but ran into the same problems below. My U install problems are:

1.) Live CD will not boot upon restarting PC. As per the U documentation web site (URL) , md5sums confirmed that proper .iso copy was downloaded and burned to CD. (However, see log file below for md5 error)

2.) "Installing CD boot helper" does not work. I receive the following error message: "Could not retrieve the required installation files", and it refers to a log file. An excerpt of the log file is below.

Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Boot After 11.03 Server Install

Jul 11, 2011

I completed an install of Ubuntu server 11.04 last night. After the initial reboot I receive a message stating there is no boot disk. Needless to say, this was irritating. I have run Fedora 14 w/Amahi on this computer for several months but, I wanted to try something different. I am running the following:

Intel Core 2 6300 @ 1.86Ghz

Sony DVD Optical Drive.

I wanted to use server so I can setup an LV during setup, which doesn't appear to be offered with the Desktop version (during setup I mean). So, ANY help would be really awesome. I don't care which version, of the OPSYS, I use as long as it can do the following:

Ubuntu Installation :: Fresh Install 10.04 - Unable To Boot One Of OS (Mint)?

May 10, 2010

I admit that I am a noob - knows a little which makes it more dangerous than not knowing at all. in brief, I am unable to boot one of the OS out of 3 I have installed. Everything is fresh install on newly formatted partitions.

Here are the details:Two HDs - one is Sata and second is IDE. Win7 installed on IDE (sdb2) then Ubuntu 9.10 on Sata (sda2) and lastly Linux Mint on Sata (sda3). Everyone was on its place - that is - Ubuntu 9.10 on sda2, Linux-Mint on sda3 and Win7 on sdb2.

Future of the day was bright and promising until I upgraded online to 10.04. After that, I was only able to boot to Win7 (IDE drive - sdb2 - not sure if it changed at that point or not) but no nix OS on Sata sda2 & sda3. I downloaded 10.04 and installed from CD again on sda2. Well, now I am able to boot into Win7 and Ubuntu 10.04 but no Linux-Mint. Another interesting thing is that sda and sdb have interchanged/swapped. So now if I chcek it thru gparted or run boot script, Sata drive shows up as sdb and IDE is now sda. In another post, I read that grub2 does that and make IDE drive as the first drive and Sata drive as second. Well, I buy that but why I am unable to boot to second OS on the same Sata drive? Evidently, I am missing something and I take that it is mostly user error but please

Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Boot After Fresh Install - Screen Blacks Out?

Mar 12, 2010

I was able to boot up the live CD and install the OS to the hard disk. *Single boot.After I rebooted, the system loads up to the Ubuntu splash screen and will "eventually" move along. The problem is that once it moves past the splash screen, it starts blacking out the screen. It looks like the screen turns on for about 10 seconds and then off for another 10 seconds repeatedly. The screen blinks like this indefinitely.This is my first attempt at installing and or using Linux so I am an uber n00b.

** Also, I am able to ctrl + alt + f1 and get to the terminal so i should be able to run any commands without any trouble.

Fedora Installation :: Upgrade F9 - F10 - Unable To Boot ?

Jan 22, 2009

It's become a tradition since I've installed FC6 on my machine: after each Fedora upgrade, the PC hangs at reboot because of a badly make initrd !

I found this post a while ago that helped me to solve the problem by rebuilding the initrd with the right librairies in it: [url]

So for each upgrade I've done the last 2 years I had to follow again these instructions to rebuild the initrd.

I've just finished the upgrade from F9 to F10 and I faced the following friendly message:

Code:

Allright, not a surprise in fact. While rebuilding the initrd I discovered there's no more /lib/i686/nosegneg/ directory in Fedora10's initrd. Therefore I reinstalled the libm-2.9.so library as follows:

Code:

Once the initrd rebuilt, I rebooted and faced a second friendly message:

Code:

I searched for posts reporting problems with segfault in ld-2.9.so but didn't find anything. So now I'm with a successfully upgraded fedora 10 system that refuses to boot.

By the way, I've done the upgrade using the netinstall CD, all the packages have been retreived online without errors and I think I've therefore the latest versions.

How to making this F10 box to start ?

Fedora Installation :: Unable To Dual Boot XP And Knoppix?

Apr 25, 2009

I've just installed Fedora 10 onto a box which had XP and Knoppix dual-booting. XP is on 1 HDD and Knoppix and Fedora share a second HDD. I installed from Fedora Live CD and accepted the Fedora MBR when it came to that option. I edited the Fedora MBR to show Knoppix residing on /dev/sdb1 (with Fedora on sdb2). XP boots without a problem, however, when I try to boot into Knoppix, I get the message "invalid or unsupported executable format".Following advice in other strings, here is my grub.conf file entry:

Installation :: Unable To Boot Window XP After Installing Fedora / Solution For This?

Sep 25, 2009

My hard disk is a 40 gb seagate drive with 3 logical partitions - C (Win 98), D (Data), E (Win XP Home). Yesterday, I decided to format Win 98 partition and install Fedora 11 on it. I used Live USB, custom partitioned for /, /boot and swap. Installation went fine until the Add/Delete boot screen came when I got multiple Unable to mount partition errors. Then I added Win XP (which was on sda6) and restarted the system. When the system booted, I selected Win XP but it didn't do anything. It showed blank screen and then reverted to grub boot loader screen. Then I selected Fedora time and completed installation and it works fine but XP doesn't boot.

Thinking something might have gone wrong, today I reinstalled Fedora. I chose "Install over previous Linux" and this time the installation went smoothly without any errors. However it still doesn't let me boot into Win XP. It gives a "Booting into WinXP in 3/2/1 seconds" and then goes blank and keeps repeating that message.

This is the result of fdisk -l code...

Fedora Installation :: Unable To Install The 11

Last week I put together a new build:Asus p6t deluxe v2, i7 920, etc etc And installed Win7 RC which worked perfectly, however for the past couple days I've been trying to install Fedora but it seems to never work. The F11 Full disk cannot load anaconda during install, but still manages to install, however the installation cannot boot. The live disk loads, but then a black screen with eth0 and eth1 link is down pops up. So I tried other dists, Ubuntu 8.04 cannot boot, 9.04 boots and installs, but after reboot doesnt work. Anyone got any ideas as to why I cannot install Linux. Also in Win7, I cannot install Fedora as a VM. It just goes to 100% load while booting and such.
