View 1 RepliesI messed up my kvm virtualization, I think. I want to reload it. I think I'm supposed to type yum install aptName. Is that right? Also, I don't know what to put in for aptName. I can't find the package names on the Fedora site. Where did they hide it? Also, where do I download apts. I searched with Google and find all kinds of sites I don't trust.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have windows vista 32bit oem that originally came with DELL system when I bought new. On the PC, MS$ sticker has the product key for windows vista. When I reformatted the disk and re-install windows vista natively on the machine for which it was licensed, it got automatically activated and passed MS$ genuine check. But I got into problems when using windows vista as guest os from fedora 13 host os using virtualbox on exactly same machine for which vista is licensed for. I go that MS$ : x -days to automatic activation, activate now link. Clicking on activate now it says invalid product key even I entered correct product key as it is on the PC.
I tried to create new windwos vista guest os 2 ways:
1) using existing native installation of windows vista by using vmware converter to create vmware disk image of the running windows vista and shutting down and log back into fedora 13 used this disk image as the storage in virtualbox and create windows vista guest. It starts up ok except for that activation issue.
2) using the windows vista dvd and using that as the source for new windows vista installation in virtualbox. All fine except got that activation issue. After killing my 2 days just for this I dont know whats next. Does that not make sense that I have a license for using windows vista on this specific pc, I am entitled to install it on that same pc as virtual or native or even both ways ?
This link: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/bott/vista-vi icture/360 says starting with service pack 1 MS$ now allows virtual installation of windows oem. My native installation was updated to service pack 2 and I also updated the fresh dvd install of windows vista in virtualbox to service pack 1 and then service pack 2 but still no effect in regard to license activation.Did any one solved the problem in some way regarding this issue for windows vista, I would like to know.
i installed ubuntu using wubi and so far i have been impressed. I quickly filled up the small size i allocated for the ubuntu installation in wubi and now find myself in quite a predicament. I was thinking of performing a clean install of ubuntu and removing the existing windows installation. Rather than dual booting, i was using virtual box to run a windows xp machine so that i could use common windows applications. However, i was having some problems running some applications in the virtual box.
it was possible to install ubuntu and windows on the same hardrive with the ability to boot into either/or, but also be able to run the same windows installation inside a virtualization program in ubuntu? The majority of the windows programs worked fine in the virtual box, but some of the applications didnt. Is there any software out there that can do this?
One of my desires is to set up my main workstation as a bare metal hypervisor because:
- Legacy issues mean I can't migrate to Linux in one step.
- The flexibility offered by virtualization is appealing.
Are there any resources out there that explain how to set up and manage fedora as a hypervisor and guests within that environment? I expect that I'll need to install a number of packages and to rebuild the kernel but I'm not aware of enough details to get started.
I am running FC14 as my host OS and am trying to install a virtual environment for academic reasons. I have tried using several different varieties including VMware and VirtualBox, but none of them seem to have any modules for the FC14 kernel. Has anyone had any luck with virtualization with FC14 as the host, that may be able to point me in a viable direction?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have been spending many days trying to figure out if is possible to implement para-virtualization with Xen on my Fedora Cora 14 with the following kernel and architecture 2.6.35.6-48.fc14.x86_64.I have read many documents that made me crazy at all, and finally they don't have many sense for me, probably because my english is very poor and many times I am not able to understand the meaning of those. It's so frustrating for me.Summarizing, what I want to do or to know is if is possible to run Xen dom0 kernel on my machine and then running some guest or domU over it.I've already known that there are not xen-dom0 kernel packages like in older Fedora versions (for instance Fedora 9) what makes things easier. I want to know if I would have to built my own kernel from kernel source repositories and how?, because tried it before and It didn't work probably cause there was something wrong in my building.I'm very willing to provide you as many information as you want or need to solve this unbeatable situation.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to setup RAID 10 with Fedora 11 on my desktop using this tutorial:[URL].. Everything has been going well, except when following the instructions and getting ready to format, it says I need to define / and boot partitions. This was never included in the instructions.
- LVM Volume Gropus
-- vg_jordan
--- fedoraRAID (type: ext4)
- RAID Devices
-- /dev/md0 (mountpoint/RAID/volume: vg_jordan ; type: LVM)
[Code]...
I installed Fedora 10 on a config that has /boot and / on md Raid 1 (separate devices). I did this with Centos 5.3 and it worked fine (or at least it booted without any problems). I have instaled Fedora 9 on a RAID 1 root md (no separeate /boot) md setup and it also worked. But now after booting the newly installed fedora 10 it just drops me into grub> . I booted rescue mode off the dvd and pooked around and don't see a problem, but don't know what ending up in grub> reallly imples so am not sure what to look for (my md setup is all there, the fs's are fine etc). Comparing things to another system all the /boot/grub/* files are present etc. I had the install do the grub install so the MBR etc should have been written.

I installed Fedora 10 in text mode. Then I logged in as root and modified inittab to switch to GUI mode. I did not see any Setup Agent after the installation in text mode.
Now that I'm in GUI mode, I get the login screen, but it won't let me log in as root ("failed to authenticate user") and there is no Setup Agent to prompt me to create other users. I don't know how to get back to text mode, either. How do I login to the system?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am upgrading my old 40G hard drive to a new 160G one and want to know the best way to set it for use with my system. I currently have a Windows partition which I want to keep & reinstate onto the new drive. Then I want to have another 3 partitions for different distros.
What should I do as a first step when I put the drive in boot off a live CD. I am assuming that I will need to do. If I do a, # grub-install, will this then format the MBR and then create a small partition for /boot. Following that, do I just restore the Windows partition immediately after the /boot partition, and then create new partitions for the distros accordingly.
I would also like to create a seperate swap partition and then install F10. Is there an option in Anaconda to not use LVM (can't remember).

View 2 Replies View RelatedHave been tasked with a couple of Sunfire X2100 that I am slapping Fedora 11 onto for some high profile tasks around the office. Have two drives of the same size in each server and would like to have the two disks mirrored for redundancy. Admittedly I am new at Linux administration and am feeling over my head.
1. Can this be managed during the installation process of Fedora 11?
2. If yes, let me know the step by step please.
3. If no, I take it a cron job of rsync is going to be my best option.
4. Alternatives insights etc.
I got a Western Digital 500GB SATA drive, installed Vista on it no problems and made sure to leave about 120gb of unallocated space when setting up the drive. Went to install F12 via the live CD and it says no drive was detected. If I take the live CD out then it boots into Vista no problems so the drive is definitely connected OK.
I was using the 64-bit version of the live CD so I downloaded the 32-bit version but I have the same problem! The motherboard is an Asus P5QPL-AM if that makes a difference.
Did a new install of F14 on a T61 Thinkpad w/ Motorola DSL router (ATT supplied). The install was smooth and had no indications of problems.

Using gui /system/administration/network I set up my DNS to the two IP addresses I've been given.
$service network restart
cat /etc/resolv.conf and the secondary DNS has changed to the IP address of my
gateway (router, at 192.168.2.x)
I.e. something is overwriting resolv.conf
Prior to this install, I'd been successfully using fixed IP on the 192.168.2.x range quite happily. Now it only works on DHCP and DNS seems to take an age.
