What do I need to grab for my install media/type in order to get a Fedora 13 32bit PAE install?
Also, do I need to do anything special to get a PAE kernel on a spin vs. the default Fedora?
Going from Fedora 12 to 13. Got to the point where I have to reboot to install, system reboots to 12. This is a triple boot system with Open Suse and Mint, and the grub2 bootloader from Mint is the bootloader for the whole shebang. In the "how to use preupgrade" instructions there's a line that says "dentify the drive and partition of your Fedora /boot folder." How? If that sounds odd, consider that in my set up "computer" shows 4 partitions (and with just three operating systems..?). I can mount them, but have a problem telling which sytem is Fedora, Suse or Mint. And getting the FEDORA bootloader to find the PREUPGRADE kernel ... Momma said there'd be days like this.
cat /etc/fstab just returned /dev/sda1 on /boot. I installed Fedora first, before Suse or Mint, so being on the first drive or partition sounds right, but the multiple drives throws me, and "just guessing" doesn't seem like the way to go.
I am currently running Fedora 10 XFCE on an Acer Aspire 1 (1.6ghz atom, 1.5gb ram, 8gb ssd). I am trying to install Fedora-11-i686-Live-XFCE via USB stick (Kingston 4gb) and am having no luck. I downloaded the .iso via bittorrent. If I use liveusb-creator: .iso passes checksum, installs boot image, installs syslinux, claims it's complete. When I try to boot, or simulate booting with qemu, I get the message "Could not find kernel image: linux" If I use

it says that the .iso passes checksum, installs live image, updates boot config file, and setup USB stick as a live image. Once again though, when I try to boot, or simulate booting with qemu, I get the same message "Could not find kernel image: linux"
I'm new to fedora and when I boot from a cd I get the message: could not find kernel image. I currently have windows xp and my motherboard is and ix38 quad gt if that helps.

i want to compile the vanilla kernel 2.6.37-rc3, but i want to obtain a .rpm file. I found this guide long time ago (i used it many times) but it use src.rpm package and the contained kernel.spec file have many lines for adding patches. Someone know where can i download a kernel.spec for vanilla kernel or a guide to obtain an rpm file

I have a MythBuntu system running 9.10 and as many others I am having issues with my wireless card controlled by ndiswrapper (networks are detected but it is unable to obtain an IP address most of the time, once in a while it connects, it also has the "invalid cmd 12" issue which fix is described here).
So I found this thread here (see post #30 on the bottom) and I'd like try upgrading the kernel to a version which Synaptics apparently doesn't offer. So my question is basically threefold. Where do I find/download the kernel (is there a way to use apt get ...) What method do I use to install it (I've found several directions on how to compile it, if someone could point to the most complete ones, I would appreciate it. If for some reason something goes wrong and I need to downgrade again, how do I do that (Synaptics?).BTW, I can hook it up to the network through ethernet and ssh into it from my Mac Mini to work on it.
After installation of Ubuntu 10.10, grub loads and has the right menu list. However, Ubuntu doesn't load and I get an error message of :Gave up waiting for root device. (with a list of common problems)There is also:ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/1584598e-b8e5..... does not exist.

Anyway as soon as I get to the ubuntu installer screen it won't let the installer begin and says this: "could not find kernel img:/casper/vmlinuz. I have tried many things including typing in this:"vmlinuz initrd.img" and extracting the data to the flash drive again but nothing has worked.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI seem to have determined a few other things about my "only gets as far as a GRUB command line" problem:To recap, sda3 (GRUB hd0,2) is the main Linux partition; sda9 (GRUB hd0,8) is the boot partition.GRUB is 0.92.Installation was from an 8.04LTS live CD (at least, that's what the envelope says it is)/"/boot/grub" (i.e., "/grub" on sd9/hd0,8) contains a "menu.lst" file. I modified it (had to do a "sudo gedit" from a command line!) to (1) comment out the line that hides the boot menu, (2) change the timeout from 3 seconds to 90, and (3) add a menu line based on my succesful manual IPL of DOS.
It still boots to a GRUB command line. If I do a "configfile /grub/menu.lst," a boot menu comes up. DOS will successfully IPL, but Linux still gets a "no setup signature found," (ditto for "recovery mode"), which suggests either a bad kernel, or a kernel that's too big for the GRUB to handle.Why would it be finding its way to grub, but not finding the boot menu file?Why would the live CD come up just fine, yet the GRUB and kernel it installs fail?

I am trying to install a piece of software that uses an install.pl script which looks to /usr/src/linux/include/ for my kernel headers...but it never finds them or that directory/link.
I've run "yum install kernel-devel kernel-headers" so I am pretty sure they are installed.
My "rpm -qa | grep kernel" returns code...
What am I missing?

there is an issue with the way the Linux Kernel addresses memory by default and the graphic drivers for my Asus G1Sn. I have a patch that I had compiled against a custom kernel for 2.6.27.xx how ever it does not work with the latest kernel in Fedora 11. It is beyond me to rewrite the patch to work with a different kernel.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use a pretty fresh installed RHEL 5.4, which should be very similar to Fedora. After the basic installation I installed xen and xen-kernel via yum with no errors. I can select the xen-kernel at boot time. But after booting the normal kernel shows up.

My /boot/grub/menu.lst looks like:

I can't see anything wrong and I did not change/try anything.

View 5 Replies View Relatedafter update to kernel-2.6.18-164.el5 one of the 2 NIC's of my machine are only found at 1 of 4 reboots. Using the old one kernel-2.6.18-128.7.1.el5 all is fine. This are the to NIC's:
00:0a.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)
00:0b.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82557/8/9/0/1 Ethernet Pro 100 (rev 0c)
And the Intel one, makes the problems with the new kernel.
If i use yum update option it upgrades to latest kernel but i only want to upgrade to kernel-2.6.31.6.
