Virtual Machine: Virtual Box 3.1.4
I can not for the work get Virtual Box's Additions to install in my FC12 guest. The error log (/var/log/vboxadd-install.log) shows: Makefile:23: *** Error: unable to find the sources of your current Linux kernel. Specify KERN_DIR=<directory> and run Make again.. Stop.
I have tried:
# KERN_DIR=/usr/src/kernels
# KERN_DIR=/usr/src/kernels/2.6.31.12-174.2.22.fc12.i686

How can I use DKMS to force the virtualbox setup to run using the correct kernel sources? This is the error I'm getting in the vbox logs

I have installed Arch Linux quite a few weeks ago; but I'm still trying my best to install the nividia display driver for my graphics card (nVidia Geforce 2 MX 400). Not only in Arch but have tried installing on other distros and still failed. I have read up all the documentations and I still find it hard to do this task. When I used the terminal and executed the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-94.43.01-pkg1.run file without any window manager running, I get this problem:

Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files for your kernel and that they are properly configured; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you have the 'kernel-source' or 'kernel-devel' RPM installed. If you know the correct kernel source files are installed, you may specify the kernel source path with the '--kernel-source-path' command line option.

I need to download the Kernel sources add a few lines and then recompile and install the new files. I found the following lines that are suppose to do it on nVidia's forums:

At this point I am seriously considering Vista again if I can't get this working I love Ubuntu but I hate having my hardware limited by my software...where to download the files I need to recompile in the Kernel with the patch I need for my ram to work?

I tried to install VirtualBox 32 bit on my 64bit Fedora11 OS. I took the 32 bit version as I want to run a 32bit software. I collected all information I could get from other forums. That's what I did: I downloaded and installed [URL]

Building an nVidia driver requires sources for the currently-running kernel. In my case (Fedora 12), it is, according to 'uname -a',
2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686
I thought I could get the sources with 'yum install kernel-sources', but there is no such package. Then I tried 'yum install kernel-devel'. That package exists, but the kernel is
2.6.32.9-67.fc12.i686
This is clearly not the correct version.

I just installed Fedora 13 today, everything is working including the internet. However, when I try to get more programs it says that it cannot find the sources, and a cache reload will fix it. I wasn't sure at first what that ment, being a begginer, but I think it means going into system-refresh package lists. So I do that,ut it still wont give me the program list. I'm really confused, I come from using windows computers and I don't know what to do now, me be a little clearer, when I click on one of the catagores to find software, nothing comes up but the defalt packages that come with the system. I go into the system-Software menu, and there are no boxes cheked. I thought that this maybe to problem, so I try to cheak the top box labled without parentheses "Fedora 13 - 1386". It tells me to authenticate my action and tells me to type the root password, I do this. Then it shows the screen below. I'm running a 32 bit system,

Is it possible to get a package via yum that has the kernel sources? In the "Add/Remove Software" GUI program, I have enabled the "Fedora source" s/w repository. Even then, the only kernel package I can find is the "The Linux Kernel", linux-2.6.27.15-170... which essentially provides only the kernel binaries and headers but not the source.

As it written here [URL]. Fedora 13 does not include the kernel-source package provided by older versions, since only the kernel-devel package is required now to build external modules. Linux kernel, does not belong to fedora. Fedora is derivative work isn't it? Or you rewrite all kernel in fedora 13, and fedora is not linux any more? According to GPL, derivative works must be licensed as GPL. And so you must provide ALL sources for free. Including kernel sources. So, where can I get kernel sources for fedora 13? Or I'm wrong, and you shouldn't provide them if you wont?

I was about to do upgrade from 11.3 to 11.4.I was following the guide I found in opensuse's website. I was to the point where I had to disable all 11.3 repositories and add the 11.4 at that point I forgot to change my nvidia repository ( I have a g210m graphic card).
thus after the upgrade the X could not start at all. I think this was because Yast could not find the nvidia driver.
Using text mode YaSt2 I added the nvidia driver but after restart I can not see and X running. I receive an error message that the current kernel can not be loaded!!!
I also checked in command line if there is something like Sax2.. but I couldnot find anything.

I have a lenovo x200 laptop running Fedora 14, fully up to date with the Fedora repository. Seemingly out of nowhere, some websites will no longer load. First it happened to www.facebook.com, next (after a day or so) wikipedia.org, now the Fedora forum. Other Internet access seems fine, but when I try to go to these pages I just get "unable to find host" errors. Its totally bizarre. It first happened in an airport so I thought it was just a strange network there, but now it happens at home. I can't get on these sites in firefox or elinks browsers (in a terminal) BUT I can ping both sites no problem. Also, the other computers in this house have no problem visiting these sites.

I am getting some error when i compile cross compile "dbus-1.2.20". error Code: checking for XML_ParserCreate_MM in -lexpat... no configure: error: Could not find expat.h, check config.log for failed attempts so i downloaded te expat library sources i cross compiled. But again i am getting same error. I think i have to add "-lexpat" in LDFLAG. But i dont know how to do that.

I want to keep my current Kernel (I wanted to keep the last one but read on... lol) Why? Fedora is stable as a rock right now and so is GNOME
Now: 2 updates ago I thought I was cool and I did this:
nano /etc/yum.conf
and I added.... this: exclude=kernel* nvidia*
But right after the next update.... all hell broke loose.... X errors and more... no need for details since I used tty2 to uncomment the "exclude" in yum.conf... updated and ALL is well and VERY stable (good job to Fedora.... it wasn't your fault... I just know I didn't exclude enough )
"What do I need to exclude in yum.conf if I want to keep the current Kernel as well as Nvidia driver while keeping everything updated besides "kernel* and besides "nvidia* packages"? I know I missed a dependency and that upgrade broke the "old"

I just want to get back to latest stable kernel of fedora 10. I'm not able from the grub to choose an older because there are only kernels for fedora 9. The problem was that previously I used fedora 9 however I upgrade it but it was still with kernel of fedora 9 so I pick it the unstable of fedora 10 and I installed it. Right now I just want to get back to current version of kernel in fedora 10 so I can upgrade it to fedora 11.

I want to do some modules development in fedora 11, by the command uname -r, I get the current kernel running in my system.

But when I run the following command

the package what I installed is kernel-devel-2.6.30.10-105.2.23.fc11.i586 and kernel
development directory is /usr/src/kernels/2.6.30.10-105.2.23.fc11.i586
So,the modules I developed can't insert to current running kernel because current is i686 and the compile environment is i586. Is that a bug of fedora 11?
