Just upgraded Fedora 12->13 using yum, on my way to Fedora 15.After upgrade to 13, I rebooted, and all is fine.Began upgrade from 13->14. I get the following errors from yum --releasever=14 distro-sync:

I was told that this command would upgrade from 12 to 13, while avoiding the boot space problem.
Everything seemed to go well, - all 1691 rpms downloaded to: /var/cache/yum/x86_64/13/fedora/packages/zip-3.0-1.fc13.x86_64.rpm, and then halted with the following message:
I'm not exactly a noobe, but this leaves me clueless. Can I salvage the upgrade?
I was doing a preupgrade from f12 to f13. That was interrupted by a power cut. When I tried to redo it by booting from the grub option, it failed (can't remember the error). I then re-ran preupgrade, but got the "the root for the previously installed system was not found" error even though the UUID was correct and even when I referenced the partion by device - /dev/sda14.
So I decided to go old school:
1. yum update
2. change the repos manually to reference f13
3. yum update
So as it stands these are seemingly the only remaining f12 packages

But i am guessing due to the interrupted preupgrade, the releasever variable has not been updated. How can I manually do that?
I have been having a lot of problems with disk errors and want to find a solution or more stable distro. I can not post the link yet since I am new but it is in the Ubuntu section of this forum and titled "Hibernate or spin down or hard shutdown causes errors." I am running Ubuntu 10.4 64bit on an AMD64 2.2gh.
I have been doing my research about distros and know a bit about what is going on with Linux. Sort of transcending past newbie I think. But I want to know what is the most stable distro for the least amount of Disk errors, or how to get ubuntu not to have so many errors. Maybe install the 32bit version? I want something fast and simple where I can run gimp/inkscape/openoffice/and maybe some of the video editing packages like Kino/piviti/cinerella.
It seems that selinux has stop weav to sync the bookmarks.I followed the fix code as SELinux suggested,but it can't work.Does anyone know how to solve it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an F11 on an old box 686 athlon with an old nVidia Corporation NV5 [RIVA TNT2/TNT2 Pro] (rev 15) AGP. I am trying to do a network install upgrade to F13. I cannot get it to display the install menus from the network install disk. I get the initial screen with the install, basic video, repair, etc choices, but after I select the install/upgrade option, I see the CD drive read but the LCD monitor display never appears. The ready light on the monitor just keeps blinking and the display stays dark. Is there anyway of getting an error log to see what is going on?
View 3 Replies View Relatedim still relatively new to linux and fedora, and i was wondering if it would be possible to install another distro on an external hard disk and keep fedora's grub. i tried this once before but the following things happened: (fedora is on my internal hard disk) the installation to the external hard drive went well, and i set the boot partition to C: because thats the first partition however when i unplugged my external hard drive, and proceeded to boot into fedora, nothing happened. my bios screen flashed and then a blank screen with a cursor. is there anyway to keep Fedora's grub where it is and just install another linux distro without that said distro's grub and add that distro to the grub list in fedora manually? or even boot to my external from the bios itself (because mine can do that)

(what size and what filesystem) Can I share partitions between different distro's ? (to reduce the number of partitions to create).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had setup my system for triple boot with Windows, F10 & Suse. I had the Windows partition and then installed F10 setting up Grub to load the other two. All went fine and was able to choose to boot to Windows which worked. I then installed Suse, choosing the bootloader to be on the partition for Suse. This installed fine and can now choose to boot into Suse which works. F10 still works as expected, but when I choose to boot Windows, I just end up with a Grub command line. I can't see how the Windows partition could have been affected. I can still see all the files in there, but it just wont boot.

This is not really a Linux issue but does anyone know how I can 'repair' this Windows partition without affecting any other partitions. I don't have a Windows install CD. If I boot off FreeDOS, is there a command to repair the 'bootability' of the Windows partition only?

Valknut and LinuxDC++ do not work but other users were saying that eiskalt dc works well with the particular hub. (These guys happen to use Ubuntu.There's a deb file available on some server.)However, I could not find the rpm file online but I did get the source code. While compiling, I get an error. I just installed Fedora 9 for the first time and have been unable to run updates nor am I able to use the add/remove programs feature. With the system updates the error I receive is within the /urs/share/packages area. I posted this http://amahi.pastebin.com/m131ea1d2 I also receive a different error when I run the Add/Remove programs feature and I receive a similar error. I also tried running these commands from root while logged in as root -- yum clean meatadata
yum -y update but this had no change to the system. I also thought it may have been a RPMFusion issue so I looked at their FAQ and ran the command line to enable RPMFusion and it advises that this package is already installed. I am getting confused by this and not sure where to start so that I dont keep going over the same things with and getting the same results.

I've got an F10 install on an old IBM machine. I am trying to repartition the hard-drive, but all my fdisk commands in terminal give me errors. I made a DOS boot floppy on another machine so I could do it that way, but when I try to go from A: to C: the computer says I have no hard drive installed.

I would upgrade from the DVD but the installer hangs when it says "Looking for installation images on CD device /dev/sr0". However, that's not really my question. I've resorted to the upgrade instructions as found at [URL]. If I don't use the '--skip-broken' option it complains about the following:

I can't seem to remedy this problem. There were other conflicts but I just removed those packages. When I attempt to remove 'cryptsetup-luks' it then tells me it's going to remove something like 200 others which did not sound like a good idea.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use jpilot on opensuse 11.3 64bit to sync pim data with my Palm Treo 680 via bluetooth. This worked fine until today. Now I get the following error message when I try to sync: Syncing on device bt: Press the HotSync button now dlp_ReadSysInfo error Exiting with status YNC_ERROR_PI_CONNECT Finished.
The last successfull sync was on the 20th October and today is the 24th October. I did not change any settings in jpilot or on my palm device. So I guess there must have been an update of opensuse which causes this error. But I do not now how to look up the updates during this period or how to undo them. Was there an update between the 20th and the 24th Oktober, which might affect either jpilot or bluetooth functionality?
I've discovered Firefox Sync a while ago, and it's absolutely awesome. Now of course I'd like most of my software to work this way! So is there a way to get the same behavior with Thunderbird?

On one of these computers, the ubuntuone-syncdaemon process constantly pegs the CPU, using from 50-80% long after any sync-able files have been modified and successfully synced. The process is only using 8.9MB of RAM.
Specs:
Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid)
Kernel 2.6.32-24-generic
1000.8 MB RAM
Pentium 4 2.53GHz
Free disk space: 280.9 GB
System monitor shows 56.8% total RAM usage, 15.4% swap file usage.
Audio sync method. "Stretches/squeezes" the audio stream to match the timestamps, the parameter is the maximum samples per second by which the audio is changed. -async 1 is a special case where only the start of the audio stream is corrected without any later correction.Searching the net makes one believe that this command is just some sort of magic.People just put it in the line and it just works. Isn't that nice?
It says nothing about how to change the TIME the audio starts syncing. Like do I want it to start 5 seconds delayed? Or what about 5 seconds sooner?What if the audio gets more out of sync as the video goes on? Can I slip it a little at a time? What? No magic?No one mentions a file that already has badly synced audio.So what -async 1 really does is simply start the audio at the beginning of the file. LIKE AS IF THAT ISN'T STANDARD PROCEDURE?So what is the exact solution to syncing a messed up video? And why can't it just do the proper "timestamp" sync in the first place?No docs, no info and you are left out in the cold.
Please bear with me as I'm incredibly new to Linux and shell scripting and all that good stuff. This will be a fairly lengthy post, as I don't really know which information is pertinent to the problem at hand and which is irrelevant. I installed Ubuntu on my Macbook following the instructions on this page: [URL].. At step 7, /dev/sda3 was not in the dropdown menu of options, so I picked...I can't remember. Either /dev/sda or /dev/sda2. I think this may be the beginning of the root of my problems. Step 8 is where it all falls apart. I get the following error message: "Status: MBR partition table is invalid, partitions overlap. Status: GPT partition of type 'Unknown' found, will not touch this disk."
Sooo since I can't sync the partitions, I can't get Linux to load unless I'm loading it from the LiveCD. I've tried steps 1-10 on this page:[URL].. However, under step 4, I could either "Save" the file randomly, without actually saving it to /mnt/root, or I could just open it and run the installer. I think I went into FF preferences and changed it to let me pick where each download would be saved, but when I actually clicked on the download link and then "Save", after finding the folder and clicking the final button (Which I think actually said "Open" instead of "Save"), nothing happened. I tried running the rest of the steps after just opening the installer on its own, but of course just got error messages. I hate not being able to troubleshoot this on my own!

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a linux box set up as a multi-purpose server for my home with three Windows client PC's. The linux box is based on a slightly modified Slackware 9.0 distribution using Linux 2.4.20 and an unfortinately old, slow AMD processor with a miserable 512Kb RAM. The linux box serves the CIFS file system to the Windows boxes, runs the SQUID HTTP proxy, the Apache web server, a print server, does masquerading, mail serving and a very effective firewall using iptables.
This system, although slow, has run perfectly for several years.Let me say that again - This system works perfectly.I had decided that now is the time to upgrade the hardware, so I bought a Gigabyte LGA775 motherboard which has two 1Gb network interfaces on it, an ASUS 256Mb PCI-E display card, 2Gb of DDR3 RAM, an Intel Core2-Quad processor and a bunch of 500Gb SATA drives to set up a RAID5 array (but I intend that the system boot off one of several 40Gb PATA drives I have).I set up the processor, motherboard, display card, RAM, a SATA DVD Drive and a 40Gb PATA hard disk in a "breadboard" layout and installed distro 13.1, being careful to set up the static IP for the local network, dhcpcd to get an IP address from the cable modem (my internet connection) and to enable ip_forward in the network configuration.
Then I installed a script invoked by /etc/rc.d/rc.local which installed all the SAME iptables rules as my old Linux box. There was one minor glitch when I had to change 8 occurrences of "-d ! $LOCAL_NET to" "! --destination $LOCAL_NET" but that was no problem. I also set up /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/hosts , the BIND server files etc. etc. exactly as in the old box.
I am able to ping mirror.aarnet.edu.au (this is at the heart of Australia's internet hub network - if it's down the whole bloody thing is down) and have the system find the correct IP from the designated nameservers and contact that server with a return trip time of 35ms. I am able to run a telnet session from one of the Windows boxes and edit files on the Linux server. So both network interfaces work and I've got them the right way around.I am able to run FTP on one of the Windows boxes and connect through to mirror.aarnet.edu.au, although it seems to hang when I try a DIR (but then so does the old linux system).

My last Linux install was SUSE 6 on an early ISA based Pentium clone. I'm used to Unix / bash from OS X, MinGW, QNX & BeOS... none of these rely heavily on X. But I'm thinking that Linux is so popular, I'm doing a lot of my Windows stuff under MinGW, why not just stick Linux on and be done with it.So I've polled the various distros, I'm a power-user / dev so Ubuntu doesn't seem like me, and I'm not familiar enough with Linux to go Gentoo just yet, but the way I slim Windows and OS X installs down to just what I need. I love apt-get and like FreeBSD installs I've seen, but want some Linux kernel goodness for my self, so I have chosen Debian.
I grabbed the amd64 build of lenny DVD 1, partitioned up and installed a bare system that I can apt-get the bits I want later.Here's the problem... When the install completes rebooting sends the graphical login to a frequency my old Hanns-G TFT can't handle.I can Ctrl-Alt-F1 back to the terminal or boot in single user mode, and everything seems to be good until you go GUI.Here's what I've tried.

My GFX card is an nvidia GT 220, the motherboard is an ASUS P5QL Pro, the Monitor (Hanns-G) is attached via RGB HD-15 D-Sub (sadly that's all I have access to right now) and it's native resolution is 1280x1024 4:3 @ 60Hz, but in heXPee it will sync at that resolution at 60, 70, 72 or 75Hz, though it does get fuzzy at 75Hz.I'm fairly certain that X is working, just not at a frequency my screen can display... how can I fix this from single user, or regular bash terminal?
---edit--- Forgot to mention I ran dpkg-reconfigure on the XServer. :s It didn't offer video drivers, only to change from gb 105 keyboard layout and ps/2 mouse. I set the META key to the logo key while I was there, but it wasn't really helpful in any other way.
have Evolution syncing with Palm Treo except for the Tasks. In a previous installation Memos didn't sync. I have set the EToDo, EMemos, ECalendar and EAddress conduits to Copy from PDA, yet no data appears in Evolution. I'm running Ubuntu 9.10.

Something that will delete from the device if it's been deleted from my library. Or update, or anything really. Just a sync, not a drag and drop.
