Fedora Installation :: F13 Network Install Will Not Sync On Monitor
Jun 28, 2010
I have an F11 on an old box 686 athlon with an old nVidia Corporation NV5 [RIVA TNT2/TNT2 Pro] (rev 15) AGP. I am trying to do a network install upgrade to F13. I cannot get it to display the install menus from the network install disk. I get the initial screen with the install, basic video, repair, etc choices, but after I select the install/upgrade option, I see the CD drive read but the LCD monitor display never appears. The ready light on the monitor just keeps blinking and the display stays dark. Is there anyway of getting an error log to see what is going on?
My last Linux install was SUSE 6 on an early ISA based Pentium clone. I'm used to Unix / bash from OS X, MinGW, QNX & BeOS... none of these rely heavily on X. But I'm thinking that Linux is so popular, I'm doing a lot of my Windows stuff under MinGW, why not just stick Linux on and be done with it.So I've polled the various distros, I'm a power-user / dev so Ubuntu doesn't seem like me, and I'm not familiar enough with Linux to go Gentoo just yet, but the way I slim Windows and OS X installs down to just what I need. I love apt-get and like FreeBSD installs I've seen, but want some Linux kernel goodness for my self, so I have chosen Debian.
I grabbed the amd64 build of lenny DVD 1, partitioned up and installed a bare system that I can apt-get the bits I want later. Here's the problem... When the install completes rebooting sends the graphical login to a frequency my old Hanns-G TFT can't handle.I can Ctrl-Alt-F1 back to the terminal or boot in single user mode, and everything seems to be good until you go GUI.Here's what I've tried.
I've renamed /etc/X11/xorg.conf to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.oldI ran dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorgI've reinstalled using both simple GUI and Expert GUI using both kernelsI've tried adding nvidia-* packages with apt-get and aptitudeI remember there used to be a frequency tuner app for SUSE 6 and XFree86, but it seems that sort of thing is depreciated in modern Linux.Info? My GFX card is an nvidia GT 220, the motherboard is an ASUS P5QL Pro, the Monitor (Hanns-G) is attached via RGB HD-15 D-Sub (sadly that's all I have access to right now) and it's native resolution is 1280x1024 4:3 @ 60Hz, but in heXPee it will sync at that resolution at 60, 70, 72 or 75Hz, though it does get fuzzy at 75Hz.I'm fairly certain that X is working, just not at a frequency my screen can display... how can I fix this from single user, or regular bash terminal?
---edit--- Forgot to mention I ran dpkg-reconfigure on the XServer. :s It didn't offer video drivers, only to change from gb 105 keyboard layout and ps/2 mouse. I set the META key to the logo key while I was there, but it wasn't really helpful in any other way.
I've been searching the forums for a while and can find similar issues, but not the exact issue. So here it is: I recently downloaded the Fedora 11 x86_64 full install DVD iso and burned it to a DVD. It booted up fine and went to the "splash screen" (where you select options) with no problems. I first selected "upgrade or install." There was some text on the screen before the screen lost output ("no signal" displayed on my monitor.) I let it sit like this for about ten minutes hoping it would work to no avail. Next I selected "upgrade or install with default video driver" this time I got to the "check media" screen, checked with no problems, said continue, it said it was loading anaconda...then...boom, same problem
I cannot install Fedora core 10. It boots up and it gets to the Fedora 10 loading screen. After that it complains my monitor is out of Range and that's as far as I can go. I had originally thought I could get to some text install mode, but I don't make it far enough to do that.
I'm trying to install Fedora 10. I'm booting from a CD, and the installation gets as far as those 3 progress bars in the very beginning. As soon as they all load, my monitor goes black and starts flashing a "DVI Input Out Of Range" warning. That's all. I'm using a nvidia geforce 8800 gtx and the Planar PX3611W monitor.
I am trying to install Fedora 11, but the monitor that I am using is only 640x480. When the window comes up to start the install, I cannot see any of the buttons or tabs for selecting the items. How can I adjust the resolution so that I can see the entire image in my screen?
when i try to load ubunto after a few moments i get a message on the screen saying "sync out of spec". I have looked for a fix for this problem and it is suggested that i run a X86config file. Where do i get this file and how do i run it if i cant see anything on the screen.
It seems that selinux has stop weav to sync the bookmarks.I followed the fix code as SELinux suggested, but it can't work.Does anyone know how to solve it?
Just upgraded Fedora 12->13 using yum, on my way to Fedora 15.After upgrade to 13, I rebooted, and all is fine.Began upgrade from 13->14. I get the following errors from yum --releasever=14 distro-sync:
I'm running F13, using Network Monitor to control my DSL connection. Until recently, all was well. Then, about a month ago, I tried changing my DNS numbers for reasons that seemed good at the time. Being properly paranoid, I kept my old DNS numbers in a text file. It's a good thing, because from then on, every time I needed to reboot (I only reboot for a kernel update, only shut down for hardware issues or a power failure.) I had no DNS until I copied them back into the configuration, disabled and re-enabled the connection. We've been having some work done here on the exterior, and every time the workmen come they manage to drop the power on the room the computer's in. I don't know if it's significant that all of the DNS losses have come after a power "failure," but it's worth mentioning.
I have installed ubuntu on Vmware.I work in Lan environment and I have 2 local linux servers in my office.I have installed nagios on ubuntu.but nagios doesnt show other hosts in office. How to do I add other hosts in the office in nagios so that I can monitor network properly?
I downloaded the ISO for the network install and burned and booted it just fine. It detected my network card and got a valid ip.When it goes to actually start to install it gives an error saying:cannot retrieve repository metadata and makes mention of some file called repomd.xml
I put the url listed into my browser and it listed all the mirrors and I checked a few of the mirrors to see if they were up and they were. What gives with this? Why doesn't the network installer find the repositories properly?
I have done a base install with CD#1 and can boot to a prompt and login with root. I cannot use the network. There is no system-config-network program for me to run. There is also no network-manager in chkconfig --list. There is a network item in chkconfig --list and I have turned it on and rebooted to no effect. Googling for base install has found me virtually no information to go on.
how to install Fedora 13 on my IBM X40 laptop which does not have a CD, a Floppy, a Network or a working USB. The only way I can write data on its hard disk is by removing it and connecting it via a USB rack to another laptop which runs Windows 7 64bit.
I run a laptop behind a server. Because I could not find the printer I disabled the firewall and now I can detect the printer, but when I want to select the printer the program hangs.
Can I do a network install using a USB as the boot media. I couldn't find the steps in the long installation help. It explains how to make a livecd boot USB drive but nothing for USB. Please make it clear with exact steps. [URL] says that I have to copy diskboot.img from /Images in install cd but there is no such file. There is a install.img should that be used instead.
Im trying to install fedora 11 full from the multiple cds and it fails on cd1 after fedora cant find a network connection and forces me to configure it via dhcp or manual ips."This requires that you have an active network connection during the installation process. Please configure a network interface"
"No Network Available Some of your software repositories require networking, but there was an error enabling the network on your system".my mb is an asus: a7n8x deluxe with a 3com and nvidia lan chipsets.
i want to install Fedora 13 on a x86 PCi want to boot from a usb disk, and install from a LAN http serverbut i got a faild as "Unable to retrieve the install image"i have tried to check apache log, access log:
Today I download a fedora beta iso file, then I try to install it following the steps I installed fedora 14. However, the install guide ask me to connect to network, if not , I had to exit installation. I just want to install fedora 15 from my local iso file. What's wrong?

Doing a fresh F12 install on a Dell Vostro 430. Machine needs to have 2 Network adapters for our setup. The install seems to go just fine but the on board network adapter doesn't appear to get detected/configured. If I look in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts all I find is ifcfg-eth0 and ifcfg-lo. Looking carefully at ifcfg-eth0 I see it's the second card that I've put in the machine. As a test I removed the second network card and did another fresh install of F12. This time in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts all I have is ifcfg-lo. When I go to system>Administration>Network Device Control I see no network devices displayed.
Is this an issue others have seen with F12 or is it possible my on board network adapter has an issue?BTW I did check the BIOS to be sure that Onboard Lan was enabled and it is.output from "lspci -k " with both cards installed on machine (I only listed Ethernet controllers)
when my pc boots and shuts down my monitor goes into 'input out of range' mode for a bit between the gui and the text only phases of boot/shutdown.is there a way to fix this? or where to start troubleshooting?also, when it shuts down it hangs after coming back to the text only part
I have a simple question: Presume I have two (or more) computers set up with Ubuntu One. I copy the exact same file manually into my Ubuntu One folder on two computers, will the U1 service realise this and not download it again? For example, I want to copy to the cloud a large file so that I can share it with others. It will upload to the server from the computer I first copy it to. Then on the second computer I copy it to the Ubuntu One folder as well, because I don't want to download it since I already have it. Will the U1 service on the second computer see the local file and skip the download?
I'm wondering what the best way to sync certain folders located on my network server with my Ubuntu laptop is. I've tried Unity, but it was a little too geeky for me . Dropbox would be perfect, except people were having issues syncing with network folders, some losing all their files in the process. All I want to do is synchronize a few folders with my local "My Documents" folder on my Ubuntu laptop, so I can write my school papers without an internet connection. Then, when I'm connected again, I should be able to sync with the folder on the network. It should also work vice-versa as well (update a file on the NETWORK, sync, then access the updated file on my Ubuntu laptop).
I tried to do a scheduled software update several times today (8/20/11) and nothing seems to download, though I do get the "Downloading" PackageKit dialog message (the System Monitor shows practically no network activity). In between tries I downloaded some 600 MB .iso files (about 10 minutes each) so I know my internet is working properly. That leaves either PackageKit got hosed in my last update, or servers are down.
I just brought up FC12 on our VSphere to begin testing..The nic did not configure properly for some reason.. I was able to go to command line, and do an "ifup ifcfg-eth0" and DHCP got an address. Go into GNOME - System-Administration - Network , or system-config-network the "Activate/Deactivate" is greyed out. Also, GNOME - System-Administration - Network Device Control show NO device..
i'm doing a fresh network install of f15 from a usb stick. the installation has now been stuck on the "retrieving installation information for fedora 15 - i386" stage for over an hour. on previous releases this stage has only taken a few mins. i can see from my router that there have been thousands of packets sent and received from the laptop. i've searched all the normal places but can't find anyone else reporting this. does anyone know if this is a known bug (and if there is a fix) or if this stage takes significantly longer in f15 to any previous release ? cheers.

finally got to the next stage after nearly two hours. no idea why it took so long.
I am interested and looking forward to get a smartphone or a personal data assistant with calendar/ email/ contacts just like the iphone does.My intention is to be able to sync my smartphone's data with my home server that actually carries my PIM applications. Basically, during the day when I am not home I will modify or add/remove data from the phone. When I arrive home I would like to be able to sync my changes to my server. My laptop will be reconfigured to retrieve and sync from that server.
Proudly running with Slackware on ALL my machines (gotta love Slack!), and Apple being **** by not supporting open source and linux environment, it seems that it will be difficult to have something working out of the box and will probably require jail-breaking the device, etc.. I don't want to rely on external services such as Google calendar except for the email from Gmail.
I am using RHEL5 and I did a createrepo -v --update /var/www/html/yum/base/5Server/x86_64/rhel-x86_64-server-5/getPackage/ and the output was
Scanning old repo data Indexed 10031 base nodes Killed
Now is that a error? I didn't press Ctrl-C or anything like that, it just finished that way. I have a local yum repository and I use reposync to sync up my local repository with the Red Hat network. Everytime I pull down the updates from Red Hat I used createrepo with no options but wanted to try the --update to see how much time it would save. Anyone have any ideas why it is it was "Killed"
