View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a personal apache server with php5 module in it that I have set to host user directories Host/~username. When I introduce any errors to the php file, such as echo "Syntax error; , I get a blank white screen. The error exists in the apache log file in /var/log.
I have found the php.ini file in and found every occurance of "error" in it and set it to "On" or E_ALL depending on what the argument wants. I still get a white screen.
I made an ubuntu live usb with a 2gb persistent casper rw using pendrive linux's portable installer. this works fine on most computers, but on my laptop, it boots just fine, but the screen is divided with little lines and overlaps slightly on the righr into the left(pic included). the laptop in question is an hp pavillion dv2000 special edition.

as instructed to in the sticky. On rebooting, after the load animation, the screen goes blank/black. If I click around, I can hear some beeps from the OS so I assume that things are running but i just can't see anything.
I have an ubuntu 8.04 server running a couple of web sites using virtual hosts , apache2, mysql and php. I have noticed that by default php sessions are created in /var/lib/php5 and all stored in plain text.
I have quickly created a php script in a separate virtual host to list and display all contents in /var/lib/php5 , and it seems incredibly easy to see what details the other accounts are storing in sessions.
Give me the code to install php5.1.2 on fedora 9 using yum

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd like to use PHP5.2x instead of PHP5.3x on my Ubuntu 10.04. There is a small bug in Drupal where tweaking Views causes an error which seems to be associated with php5.3.
So, how would I regress to using 5.2x on Ubuntu?
So xorg was acting up, and I went into the Hardware Drivers menu to see if the driver had a problem. The driver was disabled, and could not be activated. I downloaded the new ATI driver. I uninstalled the old one, installed the new one, and ran the config step just like it specifies in the install instructions. Upon reboot, I got a blank screen instead of the login screen.I managed to drop back to the command line and uninstall the driver, so now I'm stuck in ubuntu with one monitor instead of 2.
I'm going to attempt to revert to the old ATI driver (which I still have in my home dir), but I wanted to be sure to get this into the forums before I ruined my GUI again.
I am trying to install Ubuntu on my Dell Optiplex GX60 and am getting a black screen with white letters of errors and other stuff.
For instance.bad_area_nosemaphore+0x90/0x130
do_page_fault+0x378/0x440
error_code+0x73/0x78
etc.
I just updated to the new drivers. In my Xorg.0.log file, it doesn't show any errors. It just stop at a black screen. This might be a new bug with the binary drivers.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFew months ago I stood on my netbook running F11 and broke the screen. I don't believe there's anything else wrong with it as the lights and fans act as normal when I turn it on. I hooked it up to a monitor but it doesn't automatically display on the external screen. So I have a pretty odd and possibly quite difficult request. Any step-by-step guide of which buttons to press after turning the machine on, in order to get it to switch to the external display? I just need something along the lines of, press enter, tab, type password, enter, press alt-a, down, down, down, enter, tab, etc. Another possible solution, a very long shot, would be a boot disk that defaults to an external screen?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have installed Ubuntu 10.4 on Virtual Box, I have installed it successfully, the only problem is when I check the display settings it only have 2 options : 600 X 400 and 800 X 600 and this makes it difficult to work on Ubuntu as 800 X 600 is half the size of my desktop. How I can increase / configure the display settings so that atleast I can fit ubuntu screen into my screen size.
I did install the addition application, restarted the OS but still I don't see any display resolution 1200 X 800, tried pressing ctrl+D nothing happens, after installing I saw it updated mouse cursor now i don't have to press ctrl key again n again to enter into the ubuntu OS but still struggling with the resolution as it's too small, please guide me (here is the screen shot of my screen after installing the addition app).
I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS from 9.10. After the upgrade process, I restarted and chose "Ubuntu, with [the current kernel]" and now I am greeted with a white screen with no login or boot splash. My processor is pegged according to the processor case light. My computer's specs are as follows: AMD Athlon X2 5200+, ATI Radeon X1300 Pro, 2GB DDR2 ram, Dell Socket AM2 Motherboard, and 250 GB 7200 RPM hard drive. I really need to get this computer to work.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI did a LiveCD to USB install, following the directions I found at [url] When I went to reboot to the USB stick, all I get is a black Screen (monitor is on and lit, just nothing on the display) No cursor or command prompt. I've tried holding shift to bring up the GRUB menu, changing splash quiet to nomodeset, or just adding nomodeset after the splash quiet thing. I've even tried xforcevesa instead of nomodeset still black screen. Looking at the logs nothing is current as of the last time I tried to boot the computer, it's strictly what was written when I installed it to the stick. Other things I've checked/tried, Pressing CTRL+Alt+F1 at GRUB to get TTY, all I get is that blank screen. I've Checked etc/default/grub to ensure the timeout was higher then 0. The Install CD seems to be OK but I have (as it did another install successfully) but I haven't done any throughal checking of it (there was no check this disk on the first screen of the LiveCD) The USB sticks also seem to be ok (in windows though). Using the disk utility on the live CD I did check the file system on the USB stick, the "/" partition came up clean. Anybody have any other thoughts on this install, any thing else I can check?
View 9 Replies View RelatedBased on much internet searching, I've found that I was/am not the only one struggling to get Fedora 10 to span the display across a laptop screen and an external monitor. So what I have here are instructions to do so:
1) Fedora 10 does not (by default) use an xorg.conf file to configure the display. So type the following command into the command line: yum install system-config-display
2) Go to the menu bar and navigate to System>Administration>Display. I left all the display settings as they were and hit OK (repeat this step twice to make an xorg.conf backup). This will generate the xorg.conf and back up files in the directory: /etc/X11/
3) Now we need to see what size virtual screen you need. Type the following command into the command line (without the quotes): "xrandr --output VGA --auto --right-of LVDS" It will tell you that you are asking for a certain size screen. Write those numbers down. I have a 1600x1200 external monitor so my number is 2624x1200 (1600+1024 x 1200).
4) Change directories to /etc/X11 and type (without the quotes): "sudo gedit xorg.conf" Scroll down to where the device section is. Mine looks like this:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "intel"
EndSection
Some videocards need to turn 3d acceleration off in order for dual screens to work. It is important that you turn off desktop effects if you turn off 3d acceleration!!! So under the driver line add the line (with quotes): Option "NoAccel" "true" Mine looks like this:
[Code]....
Scroll down to where the screen section is, and then find the display subsection. It should look something like this:
[Code]....
On fedora 12, I could make my EEE PC 1024x600 display pannable by using xrandr:xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1024x600 --panning 1024x768...Everything worked. After upgrading to Fedora 13, the bottom panel bar is in the old position, and over any windows that extend below line 600.Is there something I need to do to get the panel bar to go to the bottom of the screen like it did in Fedora 12?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am Currently attempting to set up a Dual Screen setup at my work but seem to be having some strange results. For some reason the O/S is only recognising one of the monitors, it knows exactly what the Make and model of the monitor is but doesnt appear to know that there is another monitor plugged in. It constantly says that there is 2 screens plugged in but lists the second screen as "CRT-0" even if no DVI cable is plugged into the second screen. This has really troubled me and has really got me thinking. I have set-up other Dual-screen setups with exactly the same hardware previously and it has worked fine? I am using a Lenovo A58 Tower with an Nvidia Quadro FX-380 Graphics card that I know is capable of dual Dual-link DVI output! With 2 x LG W3000-H Monitors running Fedora 12.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've installed developer's LAMP server and made changes on php.ini
But it doesn't display any errors or even a little warning, what's the problem, what's wrong?
F9 has been running great since it came out. I read that one should install F10 before F11 so I did install F10! Everything went great.
(1) Then I tried to install the F11 iso dvd. After the "anaconda started" message at the bottom of a blue screen, the screen went blank and occasionally the message would appear: "cannot display this mode 2:dvi-d". Thinking the monitor had gone into power save, I hit many keys and moved the mouse to no avail.
I gave up! BTW I had checked all media CDs for errors.
(2) then working under F10, a little message appeared from the lower right of the screen asking if I wanted to upgrade to F11.
I accepted and again "cannot display this mode 2:dvi-d" on a black screen after anaconda started on a blue screen. This time no ISO DVD F11. I've never seen such an error message in 11 years (off and on) of using Linux. HD Disk activity was showing on the disk activity light so I let it run all night and part of today. I hit a bunch of keys and moved the mouse and the blue screen returned saying all was done and restarting.
After restart, I seem to have F11 installed. I did a yum update and got some more F11 updates. On the grub screen, the only F11 kernel was the PAE kernel which I selected
and got:
Does F11 have any F11 kernels? BTW running >setup (hd0,0) under F10 grub ruined my XP prof OS on scsi 0 so I reloaded XP Prof from scratch.
Questions:
(1) what is this "cannot display this mode 2:dvi-d"?
(2) Now I cannot boot to Fedora 11 and all the advice on how to reinstall grub has failed failed. Did a rescue and chroot /mnt/sysimage and the fdisk -l
Now XP Prof seems to be on /dev/sdc and Fedora on /dev/sdd. What do I do? In the meantime I have retreated to Fedora 10.
So, I just installed Fedora yesterday. I have been trying out different Linux distros and Fedora was next after Ubuntu and SuSE failed severely. So, I installed F14 yesterday and everything has been great... until I tried to set my JAVA_HOME variable. I followed the instructions here.
After editing $ vi ~/.bash_profile as the site instructs, I proceeded to log-out and log back in...except I can't log back in. I have repeatedly gotten the login screen, selected my account, and entered my password. When I enter my password incorrectly, it says 'Validation Error' and that is not what is occurring. The display goes black for a couple of seconds and I am redirected back to the log in screen.
I have installed LAMP on ubuntu server 10.04. where can i find the installation folder...the extension folder and so on ? i tried the command locate php but it didnt return the path i wanted.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to FC10 from FC8 and my Gnome-panel no longer spans both screens in my dual monitor configuration. This worked fine in FC8, and I can't seem to figure out how to make this config work in FC10.
I've tried Xinerama and Twinview, and various configurations in xorg.conf, and cannot seem to make it happen.
How to make both my panels (top and bottom) go across both screens?
I am running Fedora 9 in virtual box on laptop. Want to set Fedora display size so that I will not have to scroll up or down or sideways to view screen contents. Have tried a couple of options such a resize box and change from full size but these do not help reduce size of Fedora display. Am wondering if it as something to do with the rectangular size of laptop monitor???
View 5 Replies View RelatedI tried installing 10.04 via Wubi on a friend's notebook and have hit problems with the display. The installation seemed to proceed OK (took ages to download / install - left it running overnight) until it came to boot to Ubuntu. The GRUB menu appears OK, but choosing Ubuntu leads to a blank screen with some icons at the bottom, which is displayed for a few seconds, then the (login?) screen just shows rolling display, like an out-of-tune analogue TV. I suspect that I need a graphics driver or something? The notebook is a logiQ notebook, with 128MB SiS Mirage-3 graphics.
