I am trying to install Fedora 12 using the x86-64 DVD. My problem is everytime I try to install with the normal settings or basic video deriver setting it says "X failed to load" and so Anaconda never loads. How do i fix this problem. I have an Nvidia 7800GTX.

View 9 Replies View RelatedHow can I lock in a screen resolution setting so Fedora has no other options to use? I had this problem and thought it went away as F11 has been behaving fine for weeks. Today it froze so I had to power cycle to reboot. It came back but had a crappy resolution setting and no higher options available.
I had to re-boot twice to get it to finally load the correct settings again. How can I fix this so it cannot boot to lower resolution? I want to LOCK IN the minimum resolution so it cannot boot to that crappy screen whenever it has a mind to. I feel I should be the one to decide what to load it's my computer !!
Basically I've just set up a very basic network connecting my vista laptop to fedora 10 laptop via ethernet. I download from the fedora box to an external hd which I can access from both computers. So, my question is, is it possible to have the same video play on both machines, in sync?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am an experienced Linux admin and have been using SuSE for many years. My development machine has had every version of SuSE since '02 and although it is a little old, is in good working order. (AMD
2400, 2 gig RAM, 160 Gig IDE disks - SuSE on disk 2) (OpenSuSE 11.1 with the latest kernel works perfectly. This install is on a spare HDD prior to doing a full install on my usual HDD.)
When I try to install SuSE 11.2 from DVD, the load kernel operation hangs at 97% (using both normal and safe kernel), however, I can install from live CD without any problem. I have tried the same DVD on a few "older" machines and had the same problem. I initially thought it was the actual DVD but re-burning has the same problem. I have also tried another DVD writer - same problem.

Im trying to test out Ubuntu while running Windows currently, once i got the ISO image installed into my USB device by following the steps on the Ubunto site, i rebooted my PC and tried to get into BIOS to change the setting to boot through the USB device.
but i was unable to open BIOS.
this is all i saw in the bottom right side of my screen as far as commands to open some thing before my PC would boot through my Cdrive and load Windows.

I'm trying to set up a VPN for my home so I can ssh from my Mac to the linux desktop on my LAN remotely, but I have no idea what to do. The internet seems to suggest using a VPN, but I have no idea what's involved with setting something like that up, and I'm not even sure that's what I need to do. The linux desktop is on my LAN along with a few windows xp computers, if that matters. Does anyone care to either help or point me in the direction of good information (preferably suited for networking beginners)?

When setting up a wireless connection, what is needed for a basic p2p network. Wireless connection from one laptop to another to enable sharing? What I have done was set up a wireless network on my windows machine, connect to it using ubuntu. (this is all done with the built in wireless adapters, no routers). The connection is made, both the windows and ubuntu machines say connected, but none of the computers show up in the networks directory?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed opensuse 11.4 64 bit. Compiz and everything was working fine on my ati card (mobility 2600) with the default radeon drivers. I added the gnome 3 stable repo, updated fine. But when I rebooted I get booted into the fallback with no 3d effects and it says "gnome 3 failed to load" What gives? The drivers were working fine with full acceleration. I know gnome 3 works on this card, I tested it on the fedora live cd just fine.

View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter I do a fresh install of Fedora 10 and reboot the computer, nothing happens. All I get is a blinking cursor at the top of the screen. It's like Grub is messed up and won't load. Grub is installed on the Master Boot Record of the drive I need to boot from.
I have an ASUS P4C800 motherboard with one SATA drive that Fedora 10 is installed on. I also have a HighPoint RocketRaid 1740 SATA RAID controller card. When I take the RocketRaid card out, everything boots like normal, but when it is installed all I get is a blinking cursor at the top of the screen. I need the RocketRaid card because it houses my RAID5 array with all my documents. The reason I got the RocketRaid card is because it has linux support and my motherboard was listed on their compatibility chart. I had this exact same setup running Windows XP and everything worked fine. I did not load any drivers for the RocketRaid card and was going to do that after the system was setup. I don't know if that is the problem since the installer does not see the raid array on the RocketRaid during install. I was thinking that maybe Grub is seeing another disk and doesn't know what to do and sits there with a blinking cursor.
I don't know where to go from here and I am a linux newbie. On a side note. If anyone knows of a good linux book (specifically Fedora), please let me know.
So, I currently have Ubuntu on my laptop and would like to install F12 instead.I burned a copy of the F12 .iso and set my BIOS to boot from CDROM drive, but Ubuntu continues to load and I can't seem to get the OS to load for a clean install (from the .iso, even after extraction).Unfortunatly, the BIOS will not let me boot from USB otherwise I would try that.Any ideas on what might get this off the ground?

I've got a Dell Dimension 4700 with the Emuzed TVT3 Dual TV Tuner, and I've dual booted with Mythbuntu for use with MythTV. Though I have been unable to find any way to install the capture card. I have gone into the settings (and even after reading the wiki), I'm not 100% sure what to select. Not to mention, where it says probed, it shows failed to load.

The native resolution of the monitor is 1280x1024 and that's what I'd like to use.
I was able to get the display to the proper resolution with the following commands:

However, rebooting sets it back to 800x600. I have seen the edits to xorg.conf but that file wasn't created.
Is there a way to make the 1280x1028 resolution persistent without creating a xorg.conf file?

I recently brought home an old Compaq server from work. I was told that it works fine. When I brought it home, I tried installing Ubuntu 9.10 server from a cd. While it's trying to install, I get the message "Installation step failed. An installation step failed. You can try to run the following item again from the menu, or skip it and choose something else. The failing step is: Load installer components from CD." I turned off the computer and tried it again several times. Each time the same message appears.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Ubuntu (9.10) on my sisters computer. I have installed ubuntu 9.10, but when I try to boot it from hard drive, it would stop loading a bit after the logo appears. The screen would turn off while the system is still running. Live version of Ubuntu works after reports of errors. I tried to search for the problem all over the forum, and could not find a good lead to figure out the problem.
So far to figure out the problem, I verified if cd is corrupted. No issues there. Googled the problem, and seems like other users were able to install 7.04 (old posts).
Its so weird though that live version works and the installed version does not.

I have built my own custom Fedora 15 spin, the problem is that every time it show me GNOME 3 Failed to Load message dialog with the following message: "Unfortunately GNOME 3 failed to start properly and started in the fallback mode ....." Is there anyway to disable this dialoag?
