I installed a software on Ubuntu 10.10. The software came as a .sh file. Now I want to uninstall it. However I can't find the remove or uninstall script nor can I find the entry of the software in Synaptic. Is there any uninstall procedure in Ubuntu?
After uninstalling WINE through by clicking on the uninstall button in the installed programs section I found there still lingered in the "open with other programs option" a list of wine exe. and WINE which of course do nothing now. How can I completely uninstall the WINE program?

I been in the linux world about a whole week now. I have dual booted my laptop with xp and unbuntu 9.04. Everything is great but I would like to delete ubuntu and give fedora a try. I wish to keep windows xp for now. If I use windows to delete ubuntu partions, soon as I reboot grub will be gone and I will not be able to get to xp.
I thinking if I boot to fedora live dvd, wipe out ubuntu partitions, re-create partitions in the exact same space, install fedora and then reboot I will be fine. Am I right here or not. Will fedora reinstall grub, lilo or whatever to the mbr and when I reboot I will get a menu that allows me to choose which os I want to boot just as I am currently doing. Loosing windows is not an option just yet.
i have fedora 8 on my machine...i want to uninstall it..i restarted my machine with windows CD on it....but shortly after pressing key to continue configuring the installation, screen goes blank and computer becomes idle....i tried using about 10-15 different CDs of windows OS but failed every time...what could be the reason and how can i fix this......NOTE: but if i try to reinstall fedora the problem dosen't occur.
About 3-4 years ago I installed a new harddrive in my computer (XP Pro) and moved the old system disk drive to be secondary. I installed Grub and partitioned it in half. I installed Fedora on one partition and installed XP on the other. Now I want to keep the XP and replace the Fedora with another Linux like Ubuntu or Mint to try them out. I am not sure what I need to do to replace the Fedora and keep XP. Could someone give some idea how this would be done? I don't remember exactly how I did it at the time or what tools I had used or what I will need.
I ran preupgrade, and everytime it boots to begin the upgrade the video goes away and I have no idea what it is doing, which appears to be nothing.I was going to try something else before booting preupgrade, but when I run it now, it just immediately takes me to the ready to reboot part and doesn't download the packages again. I expect it to because I deleted all the stuff in /boot/upgrade and /var/cache/yum/preupgrade. I suspect there is another file somewhere making it think its ready to upgrade when it really isn't Any help locating it or know what the problem is appreciated.I tried to upgrade off of DVD, but that resulted in the very first RPM saying it is corrupt, even though media check and imgburn/verify said if was OK.
I cannot uninstall Firefox, nor can I uninstall Chromium; one always stays if the other is uninstalled. For example, if I remove Firefox, Chromium will appear in its place and vice versa. This has got to be one of the weirdest bugs I've ever seen on Ubuntu! So, how can I uninstall both web browsers?
I am trying to uninstall my LAMP server and my Drupal 7 installation. Unfortunately I cannot find any instructions on uninstalling Druapl from my system. The ones that exist are far too old( < 2008 ) to be relevant. Could someone please direct me how to go about this? Note: I did not use Synaptic for installation. I downloaded the file from the drupal.org site.
I downloaded the Fedora Live USB creator and the program consistently fails to load properly onto the flash drive. I have also downloaded the DVD iso program from this site and get only errors when trying to boot with an ISO burner? I am attempting to load the program on Sun Virtual Box, which is like VMare's Workstation, and the prompt consistently reads error when attempting to install. Also the progress bar on the Live USB loader never stops even after it the cmd prompt says it is complete.
A question on the packages installed. Went to program add/remove and found many unusual languages supported. Will I have problems if I remove them?? Also is KDE any better than GNOME for the desktop. recommendation on a book covering Fedora that the inexperienced can understand.
I am trying to install Fedora 12 x64 on my 27" iMac 10,1. I have tried both the installation dvd and the gnome live cd (both x64 i did not try the x86). On the installation dvd I get as far as the menu giving me the boot/install options - I have tried to install both with a basic video driver and the regular install/upgrade option - both times it begins loading components for the installer program (/sbin/loader) etc. After it loads sbin/loader and mounts the partitions it freezes with half the screen being the terminal txt beforehand and the other half being just a standard fedora logo w/blue background. It is not much different when I try the live-cd the only different is it does the exact same thing when the timer for automatic login is done. Any possible command line arguments that I could use to stop the graphical corruption?
I've just got another sata HDD and thought lets put in a nice install of Fedora 14 having tried out the live CD over the weekend. Right my system is configured thus
[Code]...
will Fedora 14's install program make an addition to the existing GRUB configuration or will it do something different Yes I have searched.... and looked at the installation documents....
