Ubuntu :: Uninstall A Program And Install The Updated Version?

I had downloaded Bluefish editor from the Ubuntu Software center, some time ago... but today I just visited their new site and I found out that their latest stable version is 2.0.0 where as I have the 1.0.7.
how do I remove the existing one and install the latest stable release? I searched in the software center but it wasn't available. what do I do and how do I get the latest release....
this is the instruction given but can't understand it.

Im trying to install a program off of the internet and i cannot figure it out. i need to install an updated version of deluge, the updated version is not in the ubuntu catalog yet. so here is the process i went through.
1) went to deluges site, clicked download version 1.2.1 on homepage.
2) went to ubuntu category and chose: "The Deluge packages in Ubuntu:"
3) went to the exact hits category and chose the lucid 1.2.1 version of deluge.
4) went to bottom of page and under "download deluge" and clicked the link
5) chose one of the north america choices
6) chose to open with GDebi Package Installer (default)
7) gave me this error in red letters at top : Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: deluge-gtk (= 1.2.0-1)

I havent used Linux in a long time. I dug up an old copy of Suse (version8.2), and installed it on an old 599MHZ PC. Ive been trying to update the various libraries to be able to get a updated version of Firefox installed. Is there any chance that this can work? I need to know if Im wasting my time and should just put winxp on this PC. Also, I cant get any repositories working. I assume the default ones I have on the Suse installation are bad and the ones for the later versions will not work.

How can I get an updated version of PHP on Ubunut8.04LTS? I think the version that is on it by default is php5.2.1 - I need to use 5.2.10 at least for a web based application I use. Is there a way to tell Ubuntu to use this version - I don't what to go to 10.04LTS as that has php5.3 I think. If I manually install php 5.2.10 it might get messy and will Ubuntu damage it when I run an apt-get update?

I recently updated my ubuntu to the newest version 10. I have a DSL router with a password. When I try to connect to the net it will try to connect for about 5 or so min then say that I am disconnected. I cannot remember what option I had before to connect but its not on this version.

The DST in Chile has changed due to the earthquake. I am using openSuSE 11.2, but my clock is using the pre-earthquake info. I am currently using timezone and timezone-java version 2009u-0.1.1, and I believe there is an updated timezone version 2010u, but it hasn't been uploaded to the official repositories yet. I want to uninstall the above mentioned Ubuntu from my Toshiba laptop (3 months old/new?),since i already have the same Desktop version. I have tried the CD booting of XP and a message(blue screen)appeared telling me to check for viruses and to rule out a corrupt disk (The laptop never had a Windows installed on it!The laptop has no internet connection of any sort and that's the SIT.REP.as the Green Berets (YOU) would like to know! i need it to install Linux Mint(THE BRAND NEW ONE)alongside the XP!

What is the best place to get an updated nVidia video driver for CentOS 5.5? Is there a CentOS package available that will update it? Or is it best to download it directly from nVidia? Also, I do not have an internet connection on the machine, so it will have to be a manual download and installation.

Why is everything with this ubuntu so complex and difficult? This operating system turns the act of installing/uninstalling into a huge task. Just yesterday I installed the beta release of flash 10.1, I thought that it went into my firefox folder, but I checked firefox 3.5.7 plugins and it isn't there. So my question is, where on earth could it have possibly gone? Terminal said that it installed somewhere on my home directory, but I've been searching everywhere and I can't find anything. I know it's there because videos require flash work. where is my home directory, and what is it? I'm using ubuntu 9.10.

as much as i am one for saving space and throwing out the trash. now my problem is the fact that I DO NOT WANT THIS program (localepurge) running on my system. i look and did everything i could. note : i am a noobie. when i config the program from the start i told it NO don't delete anything. and now that i have done some reading i do not want it working period. i could not find a way to disable or uninstall localepurge.

i installed conky but it never worked :S Im using ubuntu 9.10 , after i installed conky i typed sudo conky but it stucked at conky : single buffer frame , but there were program barely working on the background so i typed gedit ~/,conky and i tried to edit it after that now not even working on background ! and gives me that error : Code:

I need to know how to make a program use a version of python older than the newest one. I am trying to run the Traipse fork of OpenRPG. Through their forums, I have learned that one of my problems is that I am running too new a version of python. I have python 2.7.1 installed.
I also have python2.6.6 installed, so I should be able to use that. My first thought was to uninstall 2.7.1 and just use the older version. The problem is that if i uninstall 2.7.1, it wants to also uninstall all the packages dependent on that program. Let's face it, in Natty Narwhal, that is pretty much everything.
Do you know how to force Traipse make it use the 2.6 version?
