Fedora Installation :: First Boot Stuck

To give a bit of background, I started using Fedora at Fedora Core 2. I've installed and upgraded Fedora several times in the last few years.However, I'm not a Linux master, and there are many things I don't know how to do. When I need help, I can usually find an answer, but not this time.
I've just wiped clean my hard drive (after backing up to a separate drive), repartitioned it, and have installed F11. There were a few glitches along the way regarding the repartitioning, but they got worked out.Oh, before the install, I also added a new 1TB SATA hard drive to the system.Now that the initial install is done, I'm trying to boot up and complete the process, but the system hangs after checking filesystems. Yes, it already checked and passed the new 1TB drive.I've left the machine at this step for an hour and it has not yet loaded the firstboot screen to complete the install process.

Just when I had everything running so well. Graphics were good and I even had multiple VM's running. Today FC says I have 246 updates. The updates good through fine. I reboot my machine and now it's stuck. ArrrgIt is stuck at the message: ADDRCONF (NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready

fedora 13.I have ran fedora for a little while now and its quite good, a lot more stable than I was led to believe and add/remove tool has a great variety. So today I was booting up and decided to "type" as fedora was booting. The long and the short of this is that fedora stops at this well the bar fills just before nvidia screen/login dialog pops up and freezes there.

I've just installed Debian 6.0.1a on a HP Proliant ML115, the install seemed to go ok. As it began to start up it 'Grub Bootloader' loaded then on the screen after the bootup froze at 'Loading initial ramdisk'

I did a clean upgrade to lucid 10.04 from Karmic 9.10. After the installation, the boot was stuck at the purple screen with red and white dots.I did this on Dell XPS M1530 laptop and there was no problem in Karmic.
1. I found a temporary solution. After being stuck here, I simply go to tty1, login and startx. Now, I could work normally but if I go to tty1 and then to 'Ctrl-Alt-F7', I could still see the purple boot screen whereas 'Ctrl-Alt-F8' brings me to the normal GUI. How do I get rid of this purple boot screen ?
Searching on google suggested:
2. Remove 'quiet splash' and instead use 'nomodeset'. When I did this, I got the black screen with the messages during boot but it still got stuck. Importantly, there was no login prompt at tty1 or other ttys. Some messages towards the end where boot got stuck are below. Please help as I did like a fix to this.

I was dual-booting XP and Ubuntu 10.10 for a while, but as I never used Ubuntu it was just taking up space, so I figured I'd get rid of it. I used a partitioning tool from inside XP to remove the Ubuntu partition, forgetting that I used GRUB2 every time I booted to select which OS to load. Now when I start my computer I get stuck at the "grub rescue>" screen.After searching for solutions to this problem all of them said to either use the Windows XP CD to fix the Master Boot Record or reinstall Ubuntu, but I dont have my XP CD and there isnt enough room on my hard drive anymore for a Ubuntu install. Is there anything else I can do to fix this?

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop and it was running all smoothly, but all of a sudden when i booted, the only thing i could see were the desktop wallpaper and mouse icon, no panels, no shortcuts, nothing, meaning i can do pretty much nothing, i can move the mouse but can't click anything, the last thing i did was download and goof around with compiz and i was too happy because it worked and looked really great, even though i didn't want to activate restricted drivers for my ATI video chipset, but again, it was working cool and then boom, only wallpaper and mouse, nothing more

I recently used a GParted CD to resize my partition with Vista installed on it in order to make room for another partition in which I installed Linux onto. I, unfortunately, did not back up my data. My Vista partition now does not show up in Grub and when I set it to just boot to the Vista install it will never boot and is stuck in a loop.
I tried using this guide to try to get it back. My problem comes about halfway through this guide when I go to repair my Vista installation nothing shows up under installations. I would really like to get my data from the Vista partition. I guess if I'm SOL then at least I'll remember to backup my data next time..

I accidently deleted my ubuntu partition, and when boot I get this message:GRUB loading.error:unknown filesystemgrub rescue>I can't get into my bios options either... I just see the MSI splash screen and it cuts right to this error message.

Looking for an option to get Fedora working again, I followed Leighs guide to install the kernel nvidia driver. On Reboot however I am stuck a the Fedora splash.Is there a way when booting to disable splash, or enter in safe mode?I have an nvidia geforce 9 card and I used the non-PAE install.

I'm not sure what caused it, but it happened right after running 'yum update'. It may be because it installed a new kernel, and there are now two kernels listed in my grub.conf and at boot; 2.6.31 and 2.6.32. System boots through a list of things it's starting up and stalls out at ATL or ADL or ADM maybe. It hangs there for a minute or so then flickers. This happens every time at boot. It's a bit difficult to post more information since I can't get past that part of the boot process, and I can't seem to be able to skip it either. It may be worth mentioning that this is a mini-itx motherboard. Intel Atom 330 1.6, 2GB DDR2, onboard GeForce 9400m. It's a zotac ionitx-a-u. I've installed a fresh copy of Fedora 12 lxde.

I was having a hard time installing Xubuntu on a an old Japanese FMV Biblo LOOX S73A, with no internal drive. trying both from a USB stick and from a CD ( I think the USB's were USB 1's, not sure) but it was finally rolling with the CD---the bios lists USB booting- yet things happen, power shortage and the battery was out-
I'm stuck with a broken Xubuntu intall I have 3 grub options, regular, recovery mode and mem test I've tried to reinstall forcing the computer to boot from the CD in the bios, but get "no os found" If I let it boot from the hard drive, I get to Busybox/initramfs commands that I know nothing of. I bought a new issue of Linux Format magazine and saw it had a bootable disk with Fedora installer/live DVD on it which I was eager to try out "The worlds most advanced Linux distro" I put the DVD in my computer and rebooted it. I selected 'install or upgrade'. It started to load (blasting white text at me). I skipped the media test but then the screen was black and reacted to no mouse moving or keyboard pressing. Not even the OFF button, so I pressed RESET and selected 'install with basic video driver' this time it worked. It didn't fill my whole screen like many 'basic video drivers' but they don't cut off much so I was willing to forgive Fedora using one it was proberly only for the install anyway I could download a new one after. I have a Radeon HD 4200 (extreamly crap) intergrated into the north bridge. I can't afford an expensive graphics card. I build it myself so I can tell you what parts it's got if needed. Anyway I progressed through the setup without problems until I got to the partitionor which defaulted to 'Replace existing Linux system' this would delete Ubuntu an maybe Windows 7. I changed it to custom layout or something like that. It started a partitioner and I remembered I wanted to give ubuntu 30GB more room so I resized it. I created a new 50 GB logical partition and select it as the '/' partition, plenty more space for future Linux distributions. Here's the real problem. Soon after I hit install it said some repositorys require a network connection. It had only one option 'eth0' my motherboard has built in Ethernet but I connect to the net with a wifi card I do not have a cable long enough to reach this computer on the other side of the room. So how was I suppost to continue the setup? I pressed okay hoping it would give up and let me continue the setup but it didn't it said they was an error connecting to the Internet therefore setup could not continue. With only one option: 'Exit Installer'. GRRRR. Interestingly enough after I clicked it the disk drive's light kept flashing but the screen went black forcing me to reboot. Can anyone help me so I can install "The worlds most advanced Linux distribution"*

I am pretty new to Linux OS's, but I have gone through the process of installing linux onto several of my system already. The problem I am having is when I attempt to install Fedora 14 onto my Unbuntu 10.10 (erasing Unbuntu to be specific) I am stuck at the Post-Installation process.
I am using a CD-RW to install Fedora onto my Ubuntu, and I installed Ubuntu onto the computer originally with another CD-R.
I assume this usually takes a few minutes, as the pop-up says that it may take several, but it has been several hours with no progress. I was pretty far into the installation when the pop up appeared, and it said:
"Post-Installation: Performing post-installation filesystem changes. This may take several minutes.".
As I said, it has been several hours.

i am installing onto a serperate partition so that one is windows and the other is linux. im in the meddle of creating it right now but im stuck on the mount point. were should the mount point be? also should file system type be ext4? and under additional size options should it be fixed size, fill all space up to______, or fill to maximum allowable size?

I completed my dvd-burn for Fedora 10. I booted up from the dvd, and the automatic 10 second installation text shows up. The setup loads the images, and proceeds to a loading bar. After the loading bar I saw an underscore. That all I see.. I wait a couple of minutes and I still only see an underscore. This is my first time trying to install a Unix type O.S. Are there any commands I need to run for the installation to move forward? Or is there some type of corruption in the installation?

Forgive the terseness. I'm frazzled with this issue, perhaps I should have asked earlier. Every weekend for the past 2 months has been an endless cycle of 'repair broken system' off the install disk.
Installed from Ubuntu server 10.04LTS x86_64, + xfce-desktop Here is uname -a Linux ournas 2.6.32-25-server #45-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16 20:06:58 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux If I add my raid + lvm to the fstab file, the boot stalls, (no error it, just hangs waiting, forever). So that's a not very user friendly to start with.
I've tried the suggestions about UUID in fstab tried using LABEL instead, or even /dev/xxx. Every time it hangs. I've googled this endlessly and not found a solution. So don't ask why... since I seem to have tried every odd suggestion to fix this, I've lost track. There seems to be some consensus that whoever gave us plymouth laid an egg. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but did we need a better graphical boot if it breaks everything else?

i'm doing a fresh network install of f15 from a usb stick. the installation has now been stuck on the "retrieving installation information for fedora 15 - i386" stage for over an hour. on previous releases this stage has only taken a few mins. i can see from my router that there have been thousands of packets sent and received from the laptop. i've searched all the normal places but can't find anyone else reporting this. does anyone know if this is a known bug (and if there is a fix) or if this stage takes significantly longer in f15 to any previous release ? cheers.

I downloaded the Fedora live dvd iso file, burned it to a dvd. I was wondering if I forgot to do something or did I do something wrong. When I try to install from the dvd I get this error message, isoLinux: Disk error 80 , AX = 42A7 , drive 9F Boot Failed: press key to retry When I press a key to retry I get the same error. I also tried to install virtual pc and get not boot disk found.

I started my computer up in ubuntu today and got an error while it was running through a system check. It said "Errors were found while checking the disk drive for /". I pressed F to fix it and a while later, instead of booting like it normally would, it went to the terminal.
It asked for me to login, and when I did, it said:

I have had to reinstall SuSE 11.2. After its successful completion it got into a strange situation: the boot loader identified a boot record on the hard drive and displayed the appropriate message on the screen - but then nothing happened. When I restarted the system with the live CD and chose "boot from hard drive" it got to the normal boot menu without difficulty. I have no idea why the second method succeeds while the first fails

I lost power during my Ubuntu update and when I powered back up ubuntu was broken. Now the stupid bit. My hdd was partitioned into 3 bits, vista os, data, and ubuntu. In vista I deleted the ubuntu part and merged it with the data part. Now when I power up my computer it goes straight to a black screen that says...
error : no such partition.
grub rescue> I have looked through the forums for an answer to my problem but to no avail. When I put the ubuntu live cd in and turn back on itjust goes to the same screen. I'm a novice to the world of computers and need any help you can offer.
