i have an issue with XBMC. I installed it from fedorajunkies.org and i think i installed all dependencies as well. However when i start XBMC nothing happens. So i tried from terminal and this is what i get:

I have a problem after upgrade from F13 to F14. I used the DVD i386 Iso on my Netbook MSI Wind U100 but it's don't start. It's load the services and it's stuck in the Fedora logo. I boot into Runlevel 1 to see the logs but there is no error. Then I run init 5 and it's stuck after the service ATD load. I don't want to do a clean install.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIf you want to use XBMC 9.11 (Camelot) and MPlayer, I suggest to use RPM Fusion. VDPAU support is now mainline...My repository provides pre-beta XBMC Dharma packages (xbmc-dharma) and recent mplayer packages with bluray support (through libbluray and libaacs). These packages depend on RPM Fusion.
xbmc-dharma is also compiled with vdpau and vaapi support. vaapi is supposed to be compatible with Nvidia (through vdpau, install vdpau-video), ATI (through xvba, install xvba-video) and Intel (directly). For me (NVidia), it doesn't work, xbmc instantly crash. Anyway, you can try. Maybe it's useful for someone. You can maybe find informations here: [URL] For NVidia and ATI, it can only work with the closed source driver. For Intel. libva, vdpau-video source packages were copied from [URL](I forgot) and recompiled by me.
One last thing, RTMP [URL] support was removed from XBMC after 9.11. If you want to watch videos over this protocol (usually flash), you have to install librtmp (provided in my repo). Repository URL:[URL] If you want to install it in yum, copy [URL]

I have just installed XBMC (yum install xbmc) and noticed that the option where you can control it via the HTTP protocol is gone. Just as a curiosity I have installed it on my windows machine and the http server option is there. Does anyone knows what you have to do to fix this?

I created root, home, swap (8 gb), usr, var all in all about 100 gb (i know its much, but i have enough space :)
After the installation, fedora wanted to restart my laptop, i let it restart and GRUB came up, i chose "fedora 10" pressed enter and the laptop just restarted....did the same thign again, andn ow fedora was about 2 secs in the loading screen and then restarted again....i've chosen windows and the laptop isj ust restarting...i tried windows again and windows is loading ....but i dont get in fedora 10....

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Fedora11 on my machine - the installation failed to start the x server so I had to install with the textbased installer. When the installation completes, I boot up and first I update Fedora with "yum update". Then I install a nvidia driver with "yum install kmod-nvidia". Then I run nvidia-xconfig to make a config file. But when I try to run "X", I just get a blank screen. I can run system-config-display fine, and setup my resolution etc. The log doesnt seem to give me any errors.I have two Geforce Fx3500 card in the machine.
View 10 Replies View RelatedFedora 12 randomly crashes after a fresh install.Everything is left at its default during the installation except I install KDE and not Gnome.When I try to boot I hit esc at the splash screen to see where it hangs, but it never hangs at the same spot twice. Sometimes it hangs and sometimes it restarts. Its crashed everywhere from starting udev to the login screen.
I've been using kubuntu for the past year because I have the same problem with F10 and F11.
I dual boot with Windows 7 for games.

When I insert the live CD (that is working, I've used it yesterday to
install on my desktop at work),
the Boot from CD is skipped (but is configured properly
in the BIOS, in fact when I installed the 64bit version I had no trouble
at all) and the existing OS is loaded instead.
It seems to me to read some error related with the device (but
is fast and can't be sure what the message says).
After Ubuntu has been loaded, I can read and explore the CD.
I'd like to know how to solve this issue, any advice?
I'd want to boot from cd again, but if you know how to start
live installation when Ubuntu is already running, may you please let me know?

Updated when I came back, now selecting Ubuntu from the boot screen just restarts my PC, taking it back to the boot screen.
I launched 11.04 upgrade from a 10.10 ubuntu. Now default linux does not boot it blocks on the ubuntu screen with dot not moving. Dot come back alive when I shut down system. Commands does not work. I can launch an older kernel but it is a pain, and I cant change boot order too, which is a big WAF issue. What can I check or do?
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday I've upgraded my Maverick installation to Natty using the "do-release-upgrade" command. The upgrade completed successfully according to the tool, but after I rebooted my system and chose "Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.38-8-generic" in GRUB my screen went black showing an blinking underscore and rebooted after approx. five seconds.
When I entered the Safe Boot environment the last thing my system did before rebooting was attaching the SCSI devices but didn't show any error message.
Same with (successful) clean installation from Desktop-CD and Alternate-CD on a clean HDD.
After I upgraded I still had access to the "Previous Linux Versions" option in Grub, but when I started the Maverick kernel my system displayed a blinking underscore for about 30 minutes - until I shut it off. In the Safe Boot environment of the old kernel the "Failsafe X" option resulted in the blinking underscore again.
This happens with the final version, but also happened with the alpha and beta versions.
Ubuntu is the only OS on my PC.
I only tried this with the GNOME version of Ubuntu, but will try to use Xubuntu now.
Running the latest wubi.exe on Windows 7 x64.It creates a %temp%/pylXXX.tmp.exe file (with wubi logo) that it removes after ~1 second.It creates a %temp%/pylXXX.tmp folder wich is empty and that is not removed.Running in XP compatibility doesn't help, removing generated files don't work either.The wubi process dies quite quick and after it gets ~4000kB memory usage.I don't find any log files

Now, I know this is a problem with Xbmc (which worked like trash) but I have no clue now to remove it, I've tried to reinstall it, using the purge and auto remove commands, but no such luck.
When I first boot up my machine and log in or close my laptop lid then open it, after about half a minute in gnome my entire desktop begins to lag. It lasts for a few minutes then it's completely gone and doesn't happen again until next boot or if I close then reopen my laptop. It's a really bad lag too, where the mouse is practically umovable and I can't click anything.
I have an hp g60-549dx with a duel core 64-bit pentium 4 and an intel gma 4500M.
My Kernel is 2.6.31.6-162.fc12.x86_64
Compiz is enabled and after that lag everything runs flawlessly.
So far I've tried making an xorg.conf and changing the AccelMethod as recommended here, [url], but it didn't work.
I've just updated to Fedora 14 from Fc10 via preupgrade ( going Fc10 - Fc11 - Fc12 -Fc14 ).The process has been pretty good except that now in Fc14 I have problems with NFS and have lost networking. A portion of the bootlog shows this:

I installed OS11.4 on my old laptop, Compaq Armada E500., 512MB RAM, ATI Rage Mobility. During installation I chose "minimal server" and added some development packages, lxde and a little more. I chose to start in runlevel 3 which is full networking without X. Still, when computer is booted it tries to start Xorg which doesn't work because of some problem w driver. The start-up seems to stop there, it never loads completely - seems most things in runlevel 3 are not started (see below) I can manually login on laptop and fix it - but never permanently, same thing again after reboot.
I have checked /etc/inittab & yast - both states default runlevel is 3. I have checked services to be started both directly, browsing directory /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/, and with YaST, it is very clear X should not load during boot. But, as said, it does.. I don't really care about the driver problem right now, I can fix that later when I have more time. So how do I stop X from getting started automatically?
More info, if needed: The installation also stopped with message on tty1 "Starting YaST2" and tty8 showing errors with graphics driver (mach64). The system seemed to be installed though, so I simply rebooted (issuing "reboot" from tty2).

I'm not completely sure where it stops, network is configured but keyboard is wrong and mysql & everything after is not started, so somewhere between S02network and S06kbd. I'm going to use it as a server for testing purposes so no X is actually needed - however I do want to have X & lxde installed just in case, my Internet connection at home is terribly slow so I need most things I might need in the future installed today.
I'm using Debian Wheezy last version with OpenBox (without Gnome) and i would like to start alsamixer to change the volume but, look what happens in my terminal, I'm using terminator:

The installation itself was ok, however, after the restart in the end it did not want to load anything. I get just a blank screen. I am not much of a linux expert, so all I could do is start thee computer via a live cd and see what is there. And it looks normal - windows is intact, new linux partitions are there, GRUB is also there. What should I do? Reinstalling everything is not a proper solution...

I figured out Lubuntu would be al right, so I connected my usb cd/dvd reader(cause intern cd/dvd drive is broken) put in a disc that I burned with my other pc and started up the os. the live cd is working al right when its at the menu and I choose to start it it hangs for 30 sec-2 min then it starts to load and eventually the desktop shows up then I can start to do things but as soon as I open something the gui disappears before the program opens.
I tried to run the installer but I get the same issue. I see my mouse changing when I start the installer the mouse pointer doesn't points to the left side of the screen any more it points at the right side(which is strange) I tested this on my other pc and the installer loads up just fine and everything works ok(though I still have the mouse pointer issue if I start the installer)
btw if you got any ideas for a better distro these are the requirements: my mom is a linux newbie so an easy to use, lightweight distro for internet browsing, emailing and text editing(word) is needed. I think lubuntu will do? btw2: is there any way to import settings from the windows os to the linux os? btw3: dual boot should work just fine if I install this without deleting the windows partition right?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 9.10 with XBMC and am trying to use it to stream media to my XBOX 360. I can connect to it but it shows "No videos found" (same for music and pictures).
I can watch videos/listen to music/view pictures on my desktop so I am fairly sure the library is set up properly. I have samba set up and can view my shared media on my other desktop (running windows XP). I also tried using ushare, which worked but would not play very well.
I have tried all the setting in System-->Network, all to no avail.

after I boot the system, it would get to XBMC automatically, and when I tried to exit XBMC, it returns to login screen with two choices for Sessions, XBMC and xterm. xterm just gets me a terminal. So I tried to remove xbmc by using command line. Now, whenever I start the system, it takes me to the login screen, and after entering my credentials, the screen will go black for 1 or 2 seconds, then return to the login screen again, in an infinite loops.
