Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To Internet On Wifi Or Wired?
Mar 20, 2010
I've been running ubuntu for about 6 months, so i'm still abit of a newbie at linux but heres what im having issues with:I'm having troubles connecting to the internet on ubuntu, i have no problems connecting on xubuntu on the same machine. I can connect to my network but i cant access the internet on firefox or snaptic or any of that, but the weird thing is i can successfully ping address' in the terminal. I can also connect to my router config page in firefox using 192.168.0.1.
My internet worked perfectly about a month ago on this ubuntu install, so i cant figure out what i did to make it stop working. I think it may have something to do with the/etc/resolv.conf file because it only exists as /etc/resolv.conf.tmp and when i run "sudo dhclient wlan0" (or eth0) it says:
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo dhclient wlan0

I was having a problem with cairo dock, asked on the board how to resolve was told to reinstall the visual driver for my monitor since I have an ati vid card since with the updated kernal u have to reinstall those drivers(didn't know that, I'm new to opensuse). I thought I did that before so I completely uninstalled it so I could then do a fresh reinstall but I wasn't paying attention and my laptop was unplugged for a while. I stepped away while the install was going on and my laptop died.
I tried plugging it in but had to restart my laptop when I did I got the command line rows and when I tried to start GDM it wouldn't start, I did so as SU. Attempted to connect to the internet via networkmanager and couldn't get wifi or wired to work. Anyway I can access my desktop visually just so I can start yast and install the driver or will I have to reinstall 11.2 or use the cd to repair? If so how do I use the cd to repair?
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 tonight on my Acer Aspire One D250 and have no internet at all. I know both the wireless and wired internet work, as I am dual booting WinXP as well.
I've been reading around, but not had much success at all in trying to share the internet connection from my laptop to my phone.all the articles i read refer to earlier versions of Ubuntu and the packages they mention have become obsolete, according to the apt-get tool.im not that new to Linux, but my networking probably isn't up to scratch.if anyone could help me, that would be great, im using Ubuntu 10.04 at the time of writing.
I am a Ubuntu novice who recently shifted completely to Ubuntu 10.04 from Windows 7 on my Dell Inspiron Mini.
1. I am able to connect to the internet ('Wired') at home but when i plug in the internet cable at work it is not connecting. It gives me the message 'Unplugged, you are now disconnected'.
2. I tried installing the Wicd network manager. Even though there are wireless networks in range it doesnt show me the wireless networks (like it used to show in wiindows).
I have read through a long list of commands in the forums of commands to be executed and executed them all but couldnt connect. Is there anything basic that I am overlooking?
I thought that wired network should work once I plug in a network cable irrespective of the place. How come I am unable to connect to the network at work? I used to have a windows 7 partition and the net connected plug and play when i was in the windows side. I dont want to install Windows just for the internet at work again.
I installed ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop a few days ago and love the OS so far. However, initially i could only get internet connection though an ethernet cord. After much internet searching, i finally figured out how to get wireless internet. Unfortunately, in setting up wireless internet, I no longer have wired internet. The system doesn't seem to recognize my wired internet anymore. I'd like a scenario where i can connect to the internet both wired and wireless.
currently running ubuntu 9.10, the internet connection im hooking up to is a router from a friends personal dish internet (were all deployed to Afghanistan). Here is all the static information that i need to input.now i have all this information input in windows 7 and it works fine since its all broken out exactly how it was given to me in the ipv4 settings page. wicd in ubuntu however wont use these settings.
i recently connected this router to mahh modem..http:[url]....before router connection i was able to connect to internet via "pppoeconf command" but now i am not able to connect to internet from ubuntu ..i am still using lan cable coming out or router to connect it with pc..
I can connect to the internet through wifi, but I cannot connect to anything on my network. I have a printer and a NAS, so I would really like for this to work again. I have a dell laptop with a Broadcom card.
I have just installed a fresh copy of 9.10 on an older Compaq nc6000 laptop. I need some help getting my Linksys WUSB600N wireless adapter to function properly.
I have "half-way" connectivity, meaning that I can see (and connect to) my home wireless network but I can't connect to the internet (unless I use the wired connection). I have installed NDIS wrapper - no change
I just installed ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix (karmic koala) on my eeepc so im pretty new to linux but getting the hang of it. i was running windows before and the wireless and wired connections were perfectly fine. when i installed ubuntu, i chose it as my main system and wiped windows. now i cannot connect to the internet through the ethernet cable or wirelessly. even though i put in the right ip adress etc it doesnt work. the wireless doesnt even pick anything up so i uninstalled network manager. i installed wicd network manager and that doesnt pick anything either. BTW using a Ralink RT2860 network card.
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my Dell Inspiron 1545 64-bit laptop. Before that I used Windows7. In Windows, the internet connection worked perfectly well. But after installing Ubuntu, I am unable to connect to the internet. The network-manager applet finally says that "You are disconnected". When I do the "ifconfig", I got no IP address.
So, I installed Ubuntu 9.04 in the same system. But the problem persists.
I gone through many posts in this forum but nothing was useful.
newly installed fedora 15 is not able to connect to internet i have broadband connection with wireless modem my laptop is connecting to wireless modem network. but i am not able to configure pppoe connection on it PS: i am able to connect to internet when using wired connection from modem
i have installed fedora 15(lovelock) on my lenovo z560 ideapad laptop. in fedora 15 lovelock internet is not working by wire or wireless. Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4322 803.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)

I am a beginner to ubuntu. I have installed ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop using wubi. When I am trying to edit the IP address using network editor, apply button is not highlighted.I managed to give IP as well as netmask through command prompt. But I am not able to give gateway and dns IP.Please help me configuring this.
I have just installed ubuntu 10.04 using the wubi installer to dual-boot my machine. Under ubuntu, I am not able to connect to the internet or my router. Everything works fine under windows. I have tried to find relevant information in the forums, but nothing seems to work for me. I have tried disabling ipv6, setting a static ip, but no go. ifconfig shows no IP, dhclient results in no DHCP offers and pinging my router's IP results in Network is Unreachable.
My laptop has been working fine with ubuntu 10.04, and earlier today it shut down after running out of battery. I came to use itr and discovered that the wifi icon had disappeared from the panel bar, and it won't connect to the wireless networkor via a wired connection.I have had a play around with this, tried ping -c5 google.comresult was:ping: unknown host google.comand ping -c5 4.2.2.1result: onnect:etwork is unreachable.I have other computers connecting to this network and know that it is working fine.
i am tryin to connect to internet through wifi. for this i have to connect to router first and then open the web browser to put UN and PW. I am using ubuntu. i know UN and PW. I can connect to router but my(any) web browser cannot open the authentication page.
Im using Fedora 14, and I use mifi2372 for wireless wifi. The device is new and it will not connect to my laptop. Im sure the device is okay however I dont know about my laptop. The switch that turns on wifi does not turn blue.
After forgetting my wifi router password, I had to reset and reconfigure the router. I enabled WEP, and after I typed the password, the computer now recognises it automatically. But I can't connect to the internet no matter how long I wait. (The wired internet connection works fine.) How can I get the wifi to connect to the internet?
Just got a secondhand Asus EeePC 100P netbook, fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10, and while I can connect to my wireless network and access the router through the browser, I can't connect to the internet. Pinging any other sites, either by domain name or IP, doesn't work. I've tried various things suggested in similar threads (putting in the DNS server info manually, disabling ipv6, restarting about a gazillion times), but nothing's worked so far. (My other computer, a Mac, can connect just fine.)
Attempted to install ndiswrapper, failed miserably, and I'm not sure if that's just for situations where the wifi itself doesn't work?
I'd be very grateful for any suggestions.
Here's what's under Connection Information at the moment:Interface: 802.11 WiFi (wlan0)
I have 2 connections, wlan and wired, and I'd want to have a few websites (in my browser) to connect through the wireless connection while other go through the wired rj45 connection. s it possible? (without unplugging the rj45 cable...)
I have a telephone connection of 1 mega internet modem huawei mt 880 SmartAX my desktop computer is connected via an ADSL PPPoE.I use Ubuntu 10.04 in Spanish and want to know how to connect a WiFi router TP-LINK TL- wr942nd to provide wireless Internet to other 2 PC, a desktop with a plaquet wireles G CNet CWP-854 and 500 series notebook olivetti olibook. The issue is that when I connect the router I can not even go online and do not know how to operate the network, I can not even connect the desktop to my internet provider
I know Windows forward and backward but I am so new to linux it's just wrong. I just installed fedora (like 1hr ago) on and old toshiba laptop with a WiFi PC card. Everything seems to work fine except. My Networks connects to my home Wifi network but it will not connect to internet. When it connects the IP address isn't even close to being in the same range as my other laptops and PCs. Like I said I'm new to linux but I'm wanting to learn. Any fixes for this issue? Which linus book is the best one to read for a beginner? Other then not connecting to internet I have no complaints.
I have been trying to connect to the internet with a wired LAN connection for a while now with no luck. Running version 8.04 LTS on a 32-bit desktop. Interestingly, my 64-bit desktop running version 8.04 64-bit automatically connected to the internet with no problems or input from me. Both are connected to the same router.
I figured i'd try and copy the network manager settings from the 64-bit machine to the 32-bit machine, which involved setting an automatic configuration (DHCP}. All went well except no DNS server address showed up on the 32-bit system, despite there being one on the 64-bit system. Trying to run Firefox like this results in the 'page load error' page coming up immediately.
I then manually added the DNS server address from the 64-bit system to the 32-bit system, and all that did was prolong the time it takes for the 'page load error' page to appear.
