Fedora Installation :: Disappearance Of Ubuntu Screen Off And Not Being Able To Enter

Nov 26, 2009

Disappearance of ubuntu screen off and not being able to enter it. To solve this problem we have to we add to Menu List And through the opening of Fedora menu.lst

[code]...

But the most important point that must do it is to decrease 1 of partition. In the sense that the partition (hd0, 3) becomes (hd0, 2).

Ubuntu Installation :: Get To The Login Screen, But When Hit Enter Eveything Turns Black?

Nov 30, 2010

I'm trying to install the latest version of Ubuntu Studio. I tried it a few months ago with my HP... a live system worked fine, but when I installed it, it would go blank after the splash screen. I assumed it was some sort of incompatible graphics driver and gave up since I don't know enough about Ubuntu yet.Now I have a spare Dell XPS desktop sitting around and I got the latest version of Ubuntu Studio and tried it again. The install goes by erfectly, this time the welcome screen actually comes up and I can see my username. As soon as I hit enter, which I imagine should bring up the password prompt, the entire screen goes black and won't respond to anything.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Audio Problems Ticking, Clicking Sounds, Freezing And Disappearance

Jul 15, 2011

I have the 11.04 installed (see hardware below) and am getting this ticking sound from the moment that Kubuntu boots and you hear the booting sound and until I shut down and it plays the shutdown sound. It doesn't matter whether I watch online audio/video or play my music library. I still hear it. Been trying to find a solution for it for a couple of weeks, but all I've found was other people with same problem but in different releases and with different sound cards. Some describe it as clicking, echo and so forth. The interesting thing is that if I stop the song while it is playing and then restart it again then sometimes the ticking will go away.

The second problem is, if something is playing and something else happens like an alert will pop up from the OS, or I open a menu of the player. Then the song will simply freeze in that spot, like a damaged CD and will repeat the last noise heard indefinitely.

The third problem happens mostly online, but I thought I'd post it here just in case all of these are related. Anyway, if I play a You tube video and then click on another one. Then the second one will not have a sound. I have to reload that page and then the sound comes in.

Fedora Installation :: Enter The Password And Get - Authentication Failure - 12

May 9, 2010

I just installed Fedora 12 on HP Pavilion (dual boot with Windows vista). I made it all the way through the installation and created my user account. A few seconds later I got the login screen asking for my password. I enter the password and get "Authentication Failure."

The name that shows up on the login screen is my full name, not the user name that I created. Is that wrong?

Fedora Installation :: Text String To Enter To DISABLE Ip V6 100% During Install?

Feb 1, 2009

dose any one know the text string to enter to DISABLE ip v6 100% during the install?using the gui installer for fedora 5,6,7,8,9 i have been able to disable this ( uncheck a check box) then set the system up manually for ip4 .the reason is for some reason if ip6 is on during the install ( i have had this problem with all versions of fedora f5 through 9 and now 10)then fedora will never, never, NEVER ever connect to the net .the ip6 lookup kills my cable box, i boot into windows and it can not even connect until i unplug the box for 2 min and plug it back in and get a NEW/renewed ip address .so i do believe that i am going to need to do a text install and disable ip6. But the question is HOW ?

Fedora Installation :: Multiple Language Support (including To Enter Complex Characters)

Jun 10, 2009

I quit using Fedora when FC4 came out, but I decided to switch back now that F11 has come out. I'm liking everything so far, though it is different from what I became used to (Ubuntu). My main question so far has to do with language support, and I cannot seem to find an answer anywhere for this. I need to have language support for several languages (including support to enter complex characters) for all applications for which it they are available. How do I install all the language files at once for, say, Korean, rather than installing each library one by one?

Ubuntu :: Put In Password, Press Enter And Then The Log In Screen Disappears?

Sep 22, 2010

My Ubuntu was working perfectly fine until this morning. It is the latest release (10.04 I think) and it is the 64 bit version. This morning I go to my computer and see there are some updates waiting. I install the updates without paying much attention to them. I really do not remember what the updates were. Then Ubuntu asks me to restart so I restart. After restart I get the usual log in screen and I hear the drums. I put in my password, press enter and then the log in screen disappears and I expect to see my desktop. But that does not happen. Instead in a split second after disappearing, the log in screen reappears and I hear the drums again.

At the beginning I thought that I simply forgot my password. But that is unlikely because I have been using the same password for 6 years now. But just in case I tried an incorrect password and I got a different behavior. If I put in an incorrect password, Ubuntu will simply say "authentication failed" and the log in screen will not disappear. When I put in the correct password, the log in screen disappears for a split second (as if my password is correct) but then instead of taking me to the desktop it takes me back to the log in screen and sounds the drums again.

General :: Send Enter Command To Screen ?

Apr 5, 2011

I'm currently writing a C++ application to manage some screen functions in Debian(server).

However this issue have bothered me for 2 days now...

What I want to do is to send a command to an attached screen which is running.

Used the following command: Code: screen -S screenwindow So I send a command with the -X parameter, which works just fine... Code: screen -S screenwindow -X stuff yes The command I want to send is "yes" and it does appear in my screen window when I attach it.

But the problem is that I need it to submit it... well I need to press "enter" and I've been looking everywhere on how to do that.

Because right now it hangs on a line like this: Code: Something here, do you want bla bla: yes Obviously I could just press enter myself, but the problem is that it's running as a deamon and but it is supposed to do this all by itself .

So are there any way I can submit it?

Fedora Installation :: New 11 Install - Press The "enter" Key To Begin Doesn't Work

Jul 22, 2009

I have a new Dell R710 dual processor machine I'm trying to install Fedora 11 x86_64 on (all versions I mention in this post are x86_64 bit). I downloaded the cd iso files, burned them to cd (I don't have a DVD burner), then told my machine to boot to the optical drive.

I get a very brief introduction message about ISOLINUX then the monitor refreshes and gives me the following message: "Press the <Enter> key to begin the installation process."

Naturally, I press the Enter key(s) on my keyboard. Nothing happens. I try Alt ASCII combinations that might mimic an Enter key. No dice. ctrl-alt-delete works, however, and the machine reboots.

My checksums for the iso's are perfect, and the install process triggers perfectly on other machines. Just not this one.

After much vain research, I download the Fedora 11 Live-KDE, burn it to CD and try it. It doesn't work - the same thing happens. I tried the net install, and it doesn't work either.

On a lark, I download the Fedora 10 Live KDE iso and burn it to cd. It works perfectly and skips the "Enter" phrase entirely. I take my Fedora 11 Live KDE disc and put it in another machine and it, too, works perfectly, which leads me to believe my cd burns are fine.

I've also used usb creator to create a bootable USB drive. It doesn't ask me to press enter - it just fails with a really arcane IF=0 error (arcane to me, anyway).

So I'm at a loss. I'd like to install Fedora 11 on this machine, but may end up with Fedora 10 or CentOS if I can't figure this out.

Is there some weird BIOS setting somewhere I'm missing? I find it really weird that my fedora 10 cd works, but my fedora 11 cd does not (but my fedora 11 cd works in other machines).

How to install FC 10 first and then upgrade to FC11. I tried that as well with no luck. I can install FC10 with no problems but why not FC11?

Ubuntu :: When Turn On The Computer, The GRUB Menu Appears, Press Enter, Then A Little Flashing Underscore Appears On The Screen?

I recently removed Winblows Vista from my laptop and replaced it with Kubuntu 10.10 (I left the recovery partition on there, just in case). After a few seconds, the Kubuntu logo appears and I can log in.But yesterday I replace Kubuntu with Ubuntu 10.10. The Boot process is the same, but the little flashing underscore in the top left hand corner flashes for about 10 seconds longer then Kubuntu 10.10 did, and then a few paragraphs of text appears for a few seconds, then I am logged in automatically. Is this "unusual" boot process anything to worry about, or am I just being a noob.

Ubuntu Installation :: Cannot Enter LUKS Password In 10.04 Boot

May 1, 2010

I've just upgraded from 9.10 on a system that has an encrypted root partition encrypted using the following guide:

[URL]

On boot, prior to the LUKS password prompt, I see the error:

Code:
cannot open file /etc/console-setup/boottime.kmap.gz

The consequence is that the keyboard does not respond, the password cannot be entered, and the root partition cannot be unlocked.

This behavior occurs on all 2.6.32.x kernels but falling back to my previous kernel, 2.6.31.9-rt works just fine.

This is on a production system and is not running in a virtual machine, so the issue is not:

[URL]

I have tried running sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup, which does regenerate the initram-fs for the desire kernel, but it does not solve the problem.

The guide's initram hook includes the lines:

Code:
mkdir -p ${DESTDIR}/etc/console-setup
cp /etc/console-setup/boottime.kmap.gz ${DESTDIR}/etc/console

... but my understanding of the initram stages of the boot process are hazy and I am unclear what the intent is behind the lines.
