View 10 RepliesI couldn't connect my Micromax 300G modem in Debian Linux. From internet (in Windows Vista), I came across the information of USB_ModeSwitch and then I downloaded it. While going to install it, I came across the problem that TCL-interpreter is not available in Debian Linux. Then again I restarted my laptop in Windows Vista and connected my Micromax modem and from internet downloaded TCL8.5.10-src.tar.gz. But while going to install it, I came across the problem that " configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH " . Also as presently, I am unable to connect my modem therefore I am unable to issue the code:" apt-get update ".
View 16 Replies View RelatedI have installed fedora core 11 in my computer, I'm using a prolink phs 100 3g usb modem to connect to the internet in windows.while trying to get it working under linux I found a usb mode switching program at [URL] , I downloaded the source for the mode switching program and also downloaded and installed libusb.but when I try to run make (as mentioned in the draisberghof website) I get the following error.
Code:
[bushcat@localhost usb-modeswitch-1.1.2]$ make
gcc -o usb_modeswitch usb_modeswitch.c -Wall -l usb
usb_modeswitch.c:66:17: error: usb.h: No such file or directory
[code]...
If i'm not mistaken I think the main reason for this is that the compiler can't find the "usb.h" file, which is obvious from the third line of code.
I have tried to get several USB modems to work with Fedora without success. Some time ago I was able to get a Maxon BPS6 to work but I no longer have that unit. I have tried a ZTE 636 which is recognised by the system and have run usb_modeswitch to make it be recognised as a modem and not a cdrom. Seems that what ever I do the modem produces an error - unable to connect to modem.getting my modem working on a completely fresh install of Fedora 13

I have a ZTE HSUPA USB Modem Model:MF636 which used to work great and then is not longer detected.
I am using Fedora 12 and was having problems with the modem not been properly detected and filed a bug, which turned not to be a problem of NetworkManager, but an issue with udev.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=603433
I followed instructions to edit /lib/udev/rules.d/61-option-modem-modeswitch.rules and then it worked fine.
Now the modem is again not properly detected. Here is a copy of the results from dmesg code...
I have tried restoring the file that I edited. It was back to the stated previusly reported. I also have tried to run an older kernel. Then I updated to the latest kernel available for Fedora 12. Nothing seems to work.
How to make the modem lights toolbar addon to work? They don't seem to work while online with Gnomes KPPP, and it would be nice to see them working while online.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from 11.2 to 11.3 and compiled kernel 2.6.36. In 11.2/2.6.35 pulseaudio/padevchooser was working fine. Now I'm getting boot errors indicating that hso-udev.rules has a problem that will be important in a future release related to SYSFS{} stuff that should be ATTRS{} stuff. Other reading seems to indicate that my problem is that I have both avahi zeroconf and usb_modeswitch running. However usb_modeswitch is perhaps a replacement for zeroconf.
So I disable zeroconf. Now padevchooser cannot run since it needs zeroconf. Immediate action for me is to put zeroconf back in place and ignore the errors, then my system is working again. Long term action is now the issue. Anybody been down this route before? Whose action comes next? Possibly PA will be switching over to usb_modeswitch for zeroconf functionality? Or is there an OpenSuse config change coming?

[URL]
The advice is to add
[URL]
to the apt sources. (replacing cz as required for several other servers of choice). I tried this (using several different servers) from within Ubuntu Software Centre, but the usb_modeswitch never appeared. In fact (oddly) the source never appeared in the list! (Although I did have a look in the etc/apt/sources.list and it had added a line each time - there were several - I'd tried quite a few!!!) I did try downloading it but when it starts gdebi to install, a message pops up saying it is available (and better supported!) in a software channel.
I searched round a bit and found another reference to the package at
[URL]
This time the sources were totally different and the apt line recommended was
deb [URL]
When I add this it does add the line to the list of sources, but sadly I still cannot see usb_modeswitch after Software Centre has updated. In fact the number of packages available seems to go down from 2186 to 2179!
I suppose I could force the debian package to install, but I don't see why I can't get it to appear in Software Centre!
I should perhaps add that I have added other sources using the "apt sources" and that worked OK so I know I am doing the right thing.
I had a Huawei e1752c O2 Mobile Broadband dongle working fine in Ubuntu 9.04 using usb_modeswitch, with settings taken from After renewing an annual O2 contract, I have a new e1752c and it does not work in Ubuntu 9.04, even after installing the latest usb_modeswitch package and data. The new dongle does work perfectly on an identical laptop that has Ubuntu 10.04 with a freshly installed Network Manager and usb_modeswitch.I am guessing that there is a rule (udev or whatever) hanging over from somewhere that needs deleting, but I don't know where to look, and don't see any useful error messages - the device lists as Vendor 12d1, Product 1446 before and after usb_modeswitch runs, but becomes Product 140c in the Ubuntu 10.04 system.

I am trying to install BSNL capitel modem in Ubuntu 10.04.
I am running Ubuntu 11.04 on an external USB drive on a Dell D630 laptop.
My issue is I can't get my 3G modem to work. It is a K3770 Huawei modem.
When I plug it in after boot up it is not recognized at all as far as I can tell. (Which is not very far).
When I plug it in before boot up it shows up as a CD rom drive. I have usb-modeswitch is installed. (It was installed by default during the 11.04 installation.)
what to do to get this to work? Remember my Ubuntu is running on an external USB drive so anything that switches USB off even temporarily won't work. (I don't think).
I am new to Linux and using Linux Mint 11 RC after trying Ubuntu, and Fedora. I am not new to computing having owned and written software for Amiga, and owned and built different Windows machines.
I have a E627 Emachine Laptop with an AMD TF-20 processor that runs a Athros Communications AR8132 Fast Ethernet Card rev c0 and the network controller is a Broadcom BGM 4312 802.11 b/g LPPHU rev 01. I have 2 megs of memory and this is the machine that I put the Linux Mint os on.
For days I have been trying to get the wireless to work. I have read everything I could find on the net and know that this machine has a problem with this. I also know that the drivers in Mint don't work even though they are supposed to. I was using Mint 10 which is the stable version and it had the same problem as did Ubuntu which I know is almost the same as Mint and Fedora.
I have decided after many hours that the way to go might be to install one of those thumb drives with a wireless modem built in, but can't find an appropriate Linux one that will work with my setup. Does anyone know if there is such a thing?
One of my clients brought a laptop to me with a 64 bit processor and wanted to hook up his zoom 3095 usb dial-up (56k) modem to a his laptop using ubuntu 9.10 AMD 64 bit version. We quickly found out that zoom has only made 32 bit drivers for linux. So...I need to find a usb modem that has drivers that will work with a 64 bit version of ubuntu 9.10.

how can I troubleshoot the problem, so the usb modem can work properly.
I have a Compaq Presario 2100 laptop running Ubuntu 8.04LTS. It has a Conexant HSF modem/chipset, for which I bought the Linuxant HSF modem driver- 56K max.It is installed and it "functions",ie: it will connect to my ISP and I can start to browse (Firefox), but it will inevitably disconnect itself. At this point it is always down to "turtle speed of 4800bps".I have consulted with Linuxant Support and they suggested different modem init. strings - mainly different modulations - V34,V90,V92 w/variations. Nothing has made any signif. diff. They won't offer any further help.My question is: Could it be that Ubuntu 8.04 specifically, or Ubuntu of any version, is the source of the problem??
I have Knoppix 5.1.1 Live CD which loads up fine, and I was hoping to try the HSF driver with it, but I need to get Kernel Source pkg. and that will take 2+ hrs. to download by dialup , so haven't tried it yet.
I had some Problems with analog Modems. We have now new Server Hardware witch don't work with Suse 10.2, now we Upgrade to 11.2, but the Devolo Modem doesnt work with the Drivers vor 10.2, No Problem, this Modems are sold out, i had to search for other Modems. Now I Test an Softmodem with Motorola Chipset, Bad Luck. Then i Think, Try a Hardware Modem From US-Robotics, Expensive but working on Linux: USR802981-OEM But don't working on Suse 11.2.If you had some Other Modem (internal Pci) witch works for DialIn Data Connections please sent me Type and Configs

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using an old modem from 2007, which my ISP calls Type I. It didn't have wireless connectivity and I used pppoeconf to setup my connection - username and password and set it to connect at boot time and everything was fine till today. I bought a Type II modem from my ISP and had to return the type I modem to them. Since the technician had no knowledge of Ubuntu (or Linux in general), he configured the modem in Windows 7, tested that the connection was working, tested the wireless connection in my netbook running XP and then he left.
Now I can't connect through pppoeconf in Ubuntu (running 9.10). The terminal says eth0 is listed but the 'access concentrator' or something like that isn't responding (no other process was running at that time). I feel very vulnerable while browsing in Windows so I want to get back to Ubuntu ASAP. Oh, and here's the output when I run "dhclient eth0"
