View 5 RepliesDuring booting my ASUS 1215T behaves abnormally. It blinks and some part of the screen gets blank during booting. After booting things get normal. For Fedora 14 and Windows 7 no problem found. My netbook has AMD HD4250 Gfx chipsets with embedded AMD RS880M chipsets.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI keep starting up the computer and I'm not able to get far (although it's not always at the same time) before my screen will go black, except it shows the mouse/cursor - but it's frozen, and then the caps-lock light starts blinking and I can't do anything or get it to recover. It ONLY occurs after I log in to wireless network. Using a wired connection, this problem never occurs. How do I stop this and diagnose this?I've tried, in the boot-startup to choose an older kernel version, but the same thing occurs! And this was working for months and now is not.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the latest LTS last evening , placed it along side my Win 7 , things went well seemingly until I got the install done and restarted the pc. From the initial purple log in area, the second I curse to the place to put my pw the screen blinks off to the purple screen, devoid of the login section and freezes, taking my mouse control away and then it just sticks. I have restarted quite a few times with the same issue. Is there a known issue about Win7 and the latest LTS concerning the log in screen?
if so, what would I need to do to correct, do I need to jump backwards to an earlier version and wait for the issues to be corrected? Is that even possible?
When I attempt to boot my computer using the ubuntu 10.04 64 bit live cd the screen lights up briefly about every 2 seconds before blinking off again. The ubuntu booting process is shown just long enough for me to see that it appears to be working besides this display issue. I also had this issue attempting to install kubuntu 10.04.My system currently runs opensuse 11.2, but before that it had mint linux 8 and an older version of ubuntu which both worked fine.Has anyone else experienced this?Any ideas or is ubuntu on my computer a lost cause?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't log into my normal user account anymore, though I can log in with root without any problem. When I enter my normal user name and password, the screen blinks, a black page appears and after a couple of seconds I get the login screen again. I deleted /tmp files but no changes. I tried to login using command mode. So I hit Ctrl-Alt-F1 and log into root in command mode, then ran init3, then switched user to my normal user and ran startx. It worked and I logged into my normal account, but I can not do this process every time. So, what is the problem? How can I solve this problem? I used to work with my normal user flawlessly. I installed a bunch of software and also copied some folders to my home directory, but I don't know whether these activities caused the problem or not. I'm using KDE4 under openSUSE 11.2.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble with the grub boot menu. I have a dual boot system, Windows XP 32 bit and Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit. Windows was preexisting when I installed Ubuntu. The install went fine but when I restarted, the Grub menu gives the option of the Windows boot loader but when I tab to that and press enter the screen goes black and the curser just blinks in the upper left corner...no XP boot. The XP drive is there as I can mount it from Ubuntu side but when I try to boot into it it does not seem to be there. What have I done and what can be done so that I can boot into the XP side?

Ubuntu is running in low graphic mode. Your screen, graphic card and input device setting could not be detected correctly, you will need to configure these yourself
I have read that there is a file Xorg.conf that contain the graphics card information. I have also use the command
sudo cp /etc/x11/xorg.conf /etc/x11/xord.conf_backup
but its not working.
My girlfriend accidentally removed the power from the computer and now i cant boot up. I just get Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode and than:

0 restart x
the only thing im able to do is boot up in terminal mode. i have tried google and found nothing that worked.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy server was installed Centos 5.4 maximal. Now I want to remove packages which are unnecessary for security .
how to remove graphic mode on the server (include related packages)?
I recently downloaded and installed Fedora 11 Alpha. I then installed the Nvidia drivers for my Graphics card (GeForce 7800 GTX). I discovered that Fedora 11 is using a Beta version of Xorg and an incompatible ABI. So, my drivers would not work with Fedora 11 without me dowgrading the Xorg server. I decided to reinstall Fedora 10 instead.
I started the install, and when the installation loaded the generic video drivers, my screen showed only a bunch of colored vertical lines. Fedora 10 doesn't allow me to install in text mode.
I did a text installation of the Minimal Install CD of 9.10 (Karmic) and wound up with a console only. I installed Icewm, how to boot to graphic (GUI) mode.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn Fedora 10, I cannot get to the installer because it shows these messed up strips graphics (its not due to my graphic card, my graphic card is supported 7600gt) in non-quiet install it shows logical errors and i/o errors.
View 12 Replies View RelatedWhen preupgrade reboots, what's supposed to happen, and in what amount of time? I've tried it twice, trying to upgrade my desktop from F14 to F15 (Gnome). Both times, the download took about 40 minutes, but the reboot just sat there, with the cursor blinking in the upper left corner - no GRUB, nothing. When I then restart with Ctrl+Alt+Del, I can use the BIOS boot menu to pick the disk with F14, and it starts normally with no clue that anything has changed. Is something wrong here that I can fix?

I have installed ubuntu 10.10 fresh from boot cd and since very beginning the screen is blinking every 10 secs. When I switched on seconds in clock I've noticed that the clock is stopping on one of seconds for a moment and then skip next one altogether. I tried installing ubuntu 8.10 and 9.04 and neither of them do that. Can anyone help me please because that blinking drives me nuts and I don't want to go back to windows specially now that I don't have to.

View 3 Replies View RelatedF9 has been running great since it came out. I read that one should install F10 before F11 so I did install F10! Everything went great.
(1) Then I tried to install the F11 iso dvd. After the "anaconda started" message at the bottom of a blue screen, the screen went blank and occasionally the message would appear: "cannot display this mode 2:dvi-d". Thinking the monitor had gone into power save, I hit many keys and moved the mouse to no avail.
I gave up! BTW I had checked all media CDs for errors.
(2) then working under F10, a little message appeared from the lower right of the screen asking if I wanted to upgrade to F11.
I accepted and again "cannot display this mode 2:dvi-d" on a black screen after anaconda started on a blue screen. This time no ISO DVD F11. I've never seen such an error message in 11 years (off and on) of using Linux. HD Disk activity was showing on the disk activity light so I let it run all night and part of today. I hit a bunch of keys and moved the mouse and the blue screen returned saying all was done and restarting.
After restart, I seem to have F11 installed. I did a yum update and got some more F11 updates. On the grub screen, the only F11 kernel was the PAE kernel which I selected
and got:
Does F11 have any F11 kernels? BTW running >setup (hd0,0) under F10 grub ruined my XP prof OS on scsi 0 so I reloaded XP Prof from scratch.
Questions:
(1) what is this "cannot display this mode 2:dvi-d"?
(2) Now I cannot boot to Fedora 11 and all the advice on how to reinstall grub has failed failed. Did a rescue and chroot /mnt/sysimage and the fdisk -l
Now XP Prof seems to be on /dev/sdc and Fedora on /dev/sdd. What do I do? In the meantime I have retreated to Fedora 10.
I use my netbook for basics, Internet, Mail, Office and music. I have most of my movies in .avi/Divx. when I was using Ubuntu the default movie player would play my vids but when I went full screen the movie would just disappear and would have to shut it down and restart it. Just wondering if I will have the same problems with F14/15.

I am trying to install lucid lynx on this laptop [URL] and I am getting the blank screen problem at installation. I tried nomodeset, vga=771, xforcevesa and a couple more and nothing seems to work. I have a livecd I burned a couple months ago. If I delete the quiet splash line at the livecd I get some repeating text too fast to see and after a couple of mins the laptop shuts off by itself. what can I do to get lucid lynx working on this pc?
