I use my netbook for basics, Internet, Mail, Office and music. I have most of my movies in .avi/Divx. when I was using Ubuntu the default movie player would play my vids but when I went full screen the movie would just disappear and would have to shut it down and restart it. Just wondering if I will have the same problems with F14/15.
View 13 RepliesI am running ubuntu 10.4, I downloaded VLC player, but when I try to watch a DVD, it only goes as far as the legal warning screen from the dvd movie. What am I doing wrong? I would like to mention that I am a beginner on computers, so not even the average IT skills.
View 12 Replies View Relatedtoday in the morning I upgraded several gstreamer related packages (I suspect from the Gstreamer Developers PPA; list and versions see below). Now I just noticed that in the Movie Player (Totem Movie Player 2.30.2 using GStreamer 0.10.32 (prerelease)), when viewing a video in full screen mode, the whole screen is filled with black as expected, but the video itself now remains at its original size in the center of the screen, it is not being resized to the size of the screen. This was not the case two days ago, and I suspect the gstreamer upgrade.
Does anyone have any pointers on this, before I file a bug report? As the Movie Player itself doesn't provide any further options on video scaling (yeah, what a nice GNOME philosophy...), there's not much I can do from within the GUI..

I like movie player since it reminds me of the Windows Media Player, which I loved.However, when i put a song on full screen to go to bed for the night, it crashes after a few songs. Not only does it crash, but I have to do a full roboot. Alt F2 doesnt work, and I can't escape it. I'm more or less stuck in a black screen.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI followed the wonderful guide in this section with all of the steps and whatnot (I forget what it is called) and I got my DVD player working. I have used both the built in DVD player, and VLC with all the required codecs and whatnot. But when I go to full screen, the player (both of them) crash and I have to eject the disc and start over. It is actually kind of weird because I can resize it larger to a certain extent, but I feel once it gets over about 50-75% of the screen, it crashes.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded the recommended NVIDIA driver for my Quadro FX 1400 graphics card which has 256 MB RAM. I have my laptop in a docking station and from the docking station is a DVI to HDMI converter then HDMI cable to my TV (the idea is to use it as an internet TV slave! ). When I come to configuring the NVIDIA X Server, it correctly detects both my laptop screen and my TV via the HDMI connection. However, when I come to save the settings for the X server and go to restart it, it cannot save the configuration file. This is most annoying as it does not allow me to use the dualview I need.
The second problem comes when I use something like the BBC iplayer or anything that uses the flash player. I have the latest flash player with Firefox which works fine in non-full screen mode. However, when switching to full screen, the CPU load jumps to 100% and the playback is really jerky. Had this running the beloved windows XP before and could handle full screen no problems. I have seen a few posts here which show workarounds to zoom in on the small screen on Firefox but would prefer to run it in the full screen mode.
Since I upgraded to Lucid Lynx, playing videos with the default player do not work properly. I only see the content while moving the window, or in full screen mode, and in both ways, the picture is distorsioned and with strange colors. Playing it with VLC does work properly ONLY IF I change the video output module to something different as default (X11 works, openGL also) but Linux Framebuffer does not.
The question: Is there a way to change the "default" video mode that Totem (or Kaffeine) use?? I have not found anything on the net with this exact problem.
i have reinstalled my mint 7 and whenever i play downloaded/saved videos from ....., i get a choppy/scratchy audio & video in playback. this was not the case before i reinstalled. videos videos played directly and other dvds played from cdrom and mp3s played from hd are however working fine.

I am facing a strange problem since few days.
My system Immediately crashes and reboots automatically whenever a video currently being played in minimal mode is switched to full screen mode "IN Any Media Player".

I really don't know where I should ask this question. When I'm watching a video in full screen (ex, avi or h264 file) I am seeing random horizontal bars where there is action on the video like where a head is turning.When the motion is slow I am less likely to see these lines. Faster the motion, lots of lines or shaky motion. I was using my onboard Geforce 6150 GPU but thought it was because it was underpowered. I then bought a GT220 thinking that it was the problem. It is still but less frequent. Using the built in player, VLC... I don't know where to look, what to search for...There is my setup:

When Movie Player is started the screen blacks out for several seconds, returning my screen to normal with no change in resolution. My system makes use of the ATI Radeon X1350 Pro with the X.org opensource "radeon" drivers. Has anyone else experienced this glitch?

I don't see this issue with RhythmBox though. Only the Totem Movie Player seems to be experiencing this issue.

Ok so a brief description. The comp initially had an ATI Radeon X1600 card I removed because it was giving more trouble than it was worth. I'll add it later if there is a chance it might make things batter. (NB the computer was painfully slow with the card installed... runs faster without it)
I installed the restricted formats pakage as per the instructions found at: [URL]
So I installed the ubuntu-restricted-extras package and then ran:
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
in the terminal.
Now here is what happens. The DVD plays as I can hear it but the screen is black. moving the screen i'll get glimpses of video but not much. This happens in MOvie PLayer and in VLC. However with VLC by moving it around and going full screen I manage to get the video component working as well.

When I connect to a windows pc in full screen mode using grdesktop I can get out of full screen mode fine by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Enter but when I do so grdesktop/rdesktop does not appear in the list of running applications and there's no apparent way to get back to my RDC. The rdesktop process is still running as seen by the ps command. How do I go about getting the window back? Could Unity be the problem??

I was running kpdf and clicked Full Screen from within the kpdf window, I think in the View menu. Now I don't know how to regain control of the screen. I mean the menu bar is no longer present. Each time I run it, it is in full screen mode. I pressed F1 and read the section on the View menu. But it doesn't say anything about full screen.
enables a full screen mode in Gnome. I was previously able to do this via the KDE menu. The main purpose for this, was to get mplayer working in full screen mode when watching my media links. I am now unable to do this since switching to gnome.

Some times, when watching full screen videos on: „you tube”, the only way to exit from full screen is to navigate with Alt+Tab to another open window, which cancel full screen mode, or Alt+F4.
Esc and „Exit from full screen mode” down right button, do not cancel full screen. Also on vimeo full screen videos freezes on half way.
I read that these may be because of VGA so i changed the VGA adapter, problem persists!

For that I need the browser in the full screen mode but here the network manager applet does not pop up the network status as the ethernet cable is plugged in/out. I want that feature in my kiosk.
