I have been trying to run Yumex under F12, x86_64. It always crashes when it finishes to resolve the repositories and then the Automatic Bug Reporting tool blinks indicating a bug in python 2.6.2-2.fc12. Anyone else has seen the same bug? What have you done to solve it?

My laptop's harddisk has probably some bad sectors and a software package "Automatic Bug Reporting Tool" has reported kernel crash,gnome-panel crash. I reported them upto some extent but in totality all I can't report. How to deal with it, why is it happening, and will it be harmful for any part like CPU,RAM,HardDisk of my laptop?

Problem: what happened to gdmsetup?
I need to:
1) change the greater
2) set the users in the greater
3) set the automatic logon
4) set the timed logon.
Is there a substitute or testing utility for gdmsetup?
I've tried the bug-reporting tool in Gnome to no avail so far. This isn't a huge problem, more a cosmetic one. I'm running Squeeze beta 2, which was a fresh install. I have a Maxtor USB portable HD, which I use to back up personal data. It auto-mounts fine, as soon as I connect it. I have full read-write access from my regular user account; but when I'm finished accessing it, when I right-click and select "Safely remove" I get an error every time. The error has to do with "unable to unmount . . . ." and I wish I had the exact text but I don't. Anyway, when I open a terminal and check the mount point, the drive *has* unmounted, so I'm not worried about data loss. But why the error? BTW, the drive is formatted as one partition with NTFS.
I'm not looking for an answer so much as I am just trying to see that someone involved in trying to get Squeeze ready to release hears about this. It's no big deal, but it looks bad.

I am writing a python package deployment tool for linux based platforms. I have tried various existing tool sets but none of them is up to the mark and they have their own issues. Initially I'll start with simple approach.
1. Find all the modules/packages and copy to "lib" directory.
2. Find python's *.so dependencies (system libs) and copy them to "syslib"
3. Copy python (executable) and libpython2.6.so.1.0 into "dist" directory.
4. Set up temp environment
5. Run main script using "python <main script>.py"
The idea is to produce a cleaner directory structure. Neither I am creating a boot loader nor I am converting main script file into executable. It's plain vanilla stuff. Using above steps I have pulled down a package using wxPython's demo example "pySketch.py". You can download the archive from here: [URL]. After extracting the contents, run the executable file using "./run". This file sets temporary environment variables and execute "pySketch.py". This is eventually not working. I think I am not able to set up temporary environment properly or may be missing some other stuff.
I updated my system from FC13 2.6.34.7-66 to 2.6.34.8-68 for both the kernel and the kmod-wl RPM's. After doing so, iwconfig wlan0 key 1234567890 no longer works. I get an error indicating 'invalid argument'. If I reboot using the previous kernel/wl.ko module, it works The size of the wl.ko module increased in size by almost 30%. Did I somehow get the wrong RPM?

I acknowledged and an error was generated gcc-4.4.2-7.fc12.i686 requires libgomp = 4.4.2-7.fc12 I try to install libgomp and go round again.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen preupgrade reboots, what's supposed to happen, and in what amount of time? I've tried it twice, trying to upgrade my desktop from F14 to F15 (Gnome). Both times, the download took about 40 minutes, but the reboot just sat there, with the cursor blinking in the upper left corner - no GRUB, nothing. When I then restart with Ctrl+Alt+Del, I can use the BIOS boot menu to pick the disk with F14, and it starts normally with no clue that anything has changed. Is something wrong here that I can fix?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI keep starting up the computer and I'm not able to get far (although it's not always at the same time) before my screen will go black, except it shows the mouse/cursor - but it's frozen, and then the caps-lock light starts blinking and I can't do anything or get it to recover. It ONLY occurs after I log in to wireless network. Using a wired connection, this problem never occurs.How do I stop this and diagnose this?I've tried, in the boot-startup to choose an older kernel version, but the same thing occurs! View 1 Replies View RelatedToday morning I logged on to one of our servers (through ssh -X) to perform a routine maintenance. When I tried to open a GUI application, it failed to connect to the X server of the workstation. Eventually I ended up issuing the command

and shockingly it showed that / is 100% used. I checked / using

du --max-depth=1 -xh /
to check the sizes of the individual directories, which showed that only about 18% of the / is used and that confused me badly. There was no quick solutions when I googled around; but luckily I found the following link which nicely explained the issue I had:

All I did was found out the services responsible for those unreleased files (using lsof +L1) and restarted them. That is it. Now df reports only 18% of the disk is used and all my X things started working again, thanks to Walker.
When I install some packages Yum seems to behave correctly until the the very end when it gives the error: xxx-package was supposed to be installed but is not! I am lookng for any advice which might solve the issue. Below is an example of the yum output.

I am running a sever for a local community. There is arpwatch service running and monitoring for new network cards. The problem is that each day I keep getting lots of 'flip flop' reports:

I know where they come from: clients are obtaining ip addresses by DHCP, and initially are sending DHCP requests from 0.0.0.0. I am running arpwatch with a specific option to NOT report such things, but it looks like it is ignored...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI made the fatal mistake of hibernating on my Lenovo T61. Ubuntu wouldn't wake up after that, I tried pressing all kinds of key combinations and nothing. So I did a hard shut down and now Ubuntu won't start. On the grub menu I chose Ubuntu with Linux 2.6.35-7 normal mode and it just shows the screen that says "Ubuntu 10.10" and the four dots underneath indicating loading.
So I tried recovery mode and it stops at:
fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2
/dev/sda5: clean, 688078/4988928 files, 15488354/19939072 blocks
I also tried unplugging the laptop and removing the battery and putting it back in and plugging and restarting. Nothing changed. Then I tried restarting without the battery in and now the normal mode just shows a black screen and a flashing cursor. I also have the USB stick I created to install Ubuntu, which worked back then, but now, it won't start from the stick, I checked the Bios options and the USB is the first boot device, I really don't know how else I can make it start from the USB.
I had Fedora 13 64 bit before which was correctly reporting memory as 4GB. After I wiped off Fedora 13 and did a fresh install of Fedora 15 32 bit, the memory is reported as 3.2 GB in the system Info and also in free -mt command code...
Where is 600MB memory gone missing? I checked the BIOS setting and it correctly says total memory is 4GB.
The hardware is exactly same and I did not change anything.
I have a large collection of music albums sorted in folders which are named like this: "Zombie Ritual - 2004 - Night Of The Zombie Party" (%{artist} - %{year} - %{album}). I want to rename them so as to be indicative of the bitrate, for example, "Zombie Ritual - 2004 - Night Of The Zombie Party" => "Zombie Ritual - 2004 - Night Of The Zombie Party (@320)". It will be hard to do this manually. I tried to use EasyTag and Kid3 to do this, but they cannot add bitrate to tags.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a system set up with Fedora 9 - the Fed10 installer choked on an older Intel video chip. I've decided to try updating to 10 in anticipation of further upgrading to 11. Reading this forum and elsewhere convinced me to try preupgrade. I started it and saw Fed10 as an available upgrade path, selected it. At that point, the system appeared to freeze -- the progress bar got about 10% along and everything sat for 10-15minutes. I exited out of preupgrade and tried the rpm path.
That didn't fly either -- I was told that there were no packages marked for upgrade. I read more about preupgrade, including the fact that it might give the appearance of having locked up although it was still working. So I went back to preupgrade. This time, Fed10 didn't show in the selection box. It was, in fact, empty except when I checked the box for beta/unstable and could see Rawhide.
How do I get back to where I was with preupgrade so that I can finish what I started? Alternatively, how can I do a 9 to 10 upgrade from this point (preupgrade grayed out and rpm reporting no packages)? I expect to further upgrade to 11 in a couple of months, so the step to 10 is necessary. I do not have a separate /home partition and I have some very expensive (and difficult to set up) software that insists on sitting in /usr/local, so a full install, though doable, isn't something I want to undertake -- I'd much prefer to do to upgrades from 9.
But after it updated and I restarted the service, it's reporting 2.2.0 on any error page. Yet through yum it's reporting 2.2.13-1. Is that normal? I've only ever used 2.2.x, starting with 2.2.6ish.

I can't seem to log in with GDM. It shows the username, I click it, type the correct password, at which point it starts logging me in, then screen blinks a couple of times briefly showing the loadng cursor, and I am back at the login prompt, just like that.I don't have a lot of experience with Gnome, and don't even know where to start troubleshooting. It seems GDM doesn't like something when logging me in, aborting on some failure or something like that.Are there any good things I can try?Am on Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10, 32-bit x86, on Thinkpad T43. All worked very well up to this point. I don't recall installing all that much lately.I can log in just fine into the one of the text mode terminals. 'root' can login to desktop, but not me.

This coincides with a light on my laptop which indicates whether the wireless is turned on or not flashing, the actual connection manager doesn't indicate lost signal or anything else.
