Fedora :: Format Drives Supported Under Fedora 11?

Feb 11, 2010

I am purchasing a Western Digital WD10EARS 1TB hard disk for use with Fedora 11. My questions is will I get good performance or do I need some tweaking?

This drive has the new Advanced Format with 4k physical sectors. Some people have had performance problems with these drives. I want to make sure Fedora 11 can format the drive corectlly.

Fedora Hardware :: Print - Client-error-document-format-not-supported ?

Nov 29, 2010

I have just installed a Canon Pixma iP2200 on Fedora 14. The installation 'seemed' to go OK but whenever I try to print anything I get the following error:

"There was an error during the CUPS operation: 'client-error-document-format-not-supported'."

I have done a bit of searching and the only advice i could find is to uncomment some lines in /etc/cups/mime.convs and /etc/cups/mime.types but I don't have either of those files!

Fedora Hardware :: Canon Pixma MP450 'client-error-document-format-not-supported'

Mar 1, 2011

A neighbor of mine just got a Canon Pixma MP450 printer, to replace an old HP printer, and I am trying to get it to work with Fedora 11 installation from a machine they have borrowed from me. The printer gets recognized upon plugging it in but when I try to print a test page from the printer properties I receive the following error:'client-error-document-format-not-supported'

The driver that is selected for the printer is "Generic Driver" I have tried to select a driver but have not found any Canon drivers from the selection dialog box. After searching the web I see mention of a Canon MP150 driver working for the MP450 but I have not found this driver. Is there a driver I have to install from YUM or download from Canon? Are there others successfully using this printer and if so what have they done to get it to work?

Fedora :: UUID Format Of Drives Changed With New Motherboard?

Mar 11, 2010

I am trying to recover some data on some drives that are in the same LVM. When I upgraded the motherboard, I had complications getting the drives to all load under the LVM, and in the process I made the mistake of formatting one of the drives. The problem now is that the UUID changed on the drive so when I try to mount the LVM it can't find device with a certain UUID. When I try to set the UUID back to the old one it says 'Invalid UUID format'.

I can set it to a UUID generated through 'uuidgen', si I then noticed that the format of that UUID is different than the old one which I'm trying to set it to. Why is that? Is there a way I can get it to change to the old one in the different format?
The old format: yQtrVB-5jCk-vF10-05c2-AcDL-GNn1-ivdxxh
The new format: d5224587-a6cd-4a66-a12b-d7b75eec5871

Fedora Installation :: Software RAID With Advanced Format WD-EARS Drives?

Dec 31, 2010

My System Intel Core Duo E5300 Mobo - Gigabyte G31M-ES2L 1GB DDR2 800MHz RAM 4 x WD20EARS HDD I have been trying to install Fedora or Ubuntu for over a week. I thought it would take an hour and i would be away. I have been trying to install using the mdadm Software RAID feature. Everytime it takes about a day to format the drives and then i get an installation error. The drives state they are ready to use as is on any operating system other then WinXP, but this does not appear to be the case.

I am very new to Fedora... I have been doing some reading.[URL].. That information has been promising. I have been able to get into Fdisk off the live CD but i can't figure out how or if it is possible to do what i want it to.

Has anyone had any luck getting these drives to function correctly in a software RAID? I have had good luck with WD drives in the past and just assumed these drives would do what i wanted to but alas i have been proven wrong.

The partitions i wanted was...
- A 2GB swap parition
- A 10 GB RAID 1 partition for Fedora
- The remaining space as a Raid 5 for files.

Am i just banging my head against a wall here, or is this possible.

Ubuntu Servers :: Error 13: Invalid Or Un Supported Executable Format?

Aug 4, 2010

Ubuntu 9.04 server (64bit)
8GB
(2) 320 WD HDD - RAID 1

After coming home one evening I found my server was turned off. My suspicions lead me to believe we had a storm and the power went off, then the UPS went off and finally at that point the server went off too. I think my server was set to allow security updates. After it turned of and restarted it seems it made a change to Grub and upgraded it to Grub2. In doing so I now get the following message:

Error 13: Invalid or un supported executable format

I have tried to do the following:

This solved the problem for me, from > url

Quote:boot from the live medium and chroot into the Linux installation:

$ sudo mkdir /mnt/linux
$ sudo mount -t ext4 /dev/sda1 /mnt/linux

Then, the following command should resolve the issue. :

$ sudo grub-install --recheck /dev/sda

Ubuntu :: Two Hard Drives - Format One Of Them ?

Mar 30, 2011

I have a nice computer i have been dual booting between either ubuntu or win7. i am wanting to remove win7 and install winxp sp3, so i can use media center with my xbox. i preferred that win7 work, but since my copy is not genuine, its authenticity is believed to be the culprit in connection errors with the xbox. i have not been able to find a linux alternative, which i doubt even exists due to the proprietary nature of the xbox.

So, my question is how do i reformat the win7 hard drive? are there issues i need to worry about that may reformat both hard drives on accident? and when the hard drive is formatted, will i be prompted to choose which hard drive to install win xp on?

Fedora :: How To Make Drives Readable / Writable In Fedora 14?

Dec 29, 2010

I decided I could get by without WIN7 on my computer on a permanent basis, so re-installed Fedora 14 on drive SDA (Drive 0), previously occupied by WIN7, and formatted all other drives in the system (SDB, SDC, and SDD to EXT4.The install went well, and everything is working except one thing - I cannot get SDB,SDC or SDD to copy files one to the other. The message I get is that permissions do not allow this process. The automount works OK, and I can access the contents of individual files on these drives, but as far as copying goes, there is no go.What other parameters do I have to add to the automount in /etc/fstab to allow for this read/write function, or am I looking in the wrong area entirely?I have searched these forums and the Internet in general, but I cant seem to find anything specific to this problem.

Fedora :: SATA DVD Burner Not Supported?

K3B burns DVD's just fine, but the speed is pegged at 1x even though writing speed specified was 8x. Device buffer is fluctuating from 0 to 80% all the time, which seems to suggest that the data is not being fed into the drive at good sustained rate to write faster.

I tried:
hdparm -d /dev/sr0

/dev/sr0:

Fedora Networking :: DNAT To Localhost Not Supported?

Dec 4, 2009

I'm having problems with NX, it's doing strange things, trying to connect to some IP host in timbuktoo because my DNS provider's DNS sucks AND because NX is looking up the host "localhost" without first consulting my hosts file (which nsswitch explicitly tells it to do). THAT's all beside the point.

To work around this apparent bug in NX I tried creating an iptables rule to redirect traffic destin for a certain IP (10.x.x.x) to localhost (127.0.0.1) with the following rule: iptables -t nat -I PREROUTING -d 10.x.x.x -j DNAT --to 127.0.0.1. After adding the above rule, my attempts to connect to that host continued to get routed right off into the internet where I DIDN't want them to go. Instead of being redirected to the localhost/loopback address.

It seems DNAT to localhost is not supported? A Google search reveals many other people having this issue but blaming it on everything but iptables. I'm proposing that it's not supported, by design or not, to redirect traffic from a NIC to the loopback network?

Fedora Hardware :: How Does Determine Supported Resolutions

Feb 28, 2010

I'm using an HP 2009m 20" widescreen monitor, and have a Nvidia 8500gt video card. Latest Nvidia drivers from RPM Fusion are installed.

My problem is that the only widescreen resolution I have a choice of in both nvidia-settings and gnome's "Display preferences," is 1600x900. While this is fine for desktop apps, my video card doesn't handle games very well at that resolution.

So, I know my card and monitor are capable of displaying other widescreen resolutions (such as 1360x768) because they work in Windows 7, but Fedora doesn't give me the choice of selecting them.

Is there a file that Fedora uses to determine the supported resolutions? How would I be able to select resolutions that I know are supported (at least in Windows 7)? Can editing xorg.conf give me this ability?

I just looked in my xorg.conf, and it's surprisingly slim compared to others I've seen.
