Fedora :: Firefox Not Keeping Window Dimensions
May 25, 2010
I'm running Fedora 13 (fully updated) with Firefox 3.6.3 and I'm noticing that Firefox isn't remembering window dimensions across launches (eg. I have to resize Firefox everytime I run it). This is affecting the main Firefox window as well as the bookmarks window.

i have 10.04 installed through wubi on my school hard drive and i notice that after i turn it off, then later put it in one of the many computers, firefox seems to forget i had things to keep me logged in, such as this forum.
now it could be that i use it on different computers(all have the same hardware), but its just odd if you ask me this doesn't get in the way of use but is happening.
Code:
Linux ubuntu 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 13:28:05 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I messed up.. Firefox window top toolbar is gone, and the bottom Fedora toolbar is covered with Firefox's bottom bar... Last time this happened I uninstalled and einstalled the OS... Is there a code or button to make a "ballooned" Firefox be small..?

For the life of me I cant remember what this bar is called, but if you right click, it allows you to close the window, minimize or maximize it, etc.
I like black themes, and right now everything but that bar is black.
Is there any way to change that bar from white to black?

Does anyone know the pixel dimensions for the panels.I want to design a panel background image in gimp for the entire panel but I don't know how many pixels they are from left to right. I know (or I think) that they are 24 pixels from top to bottom but how many across?
I have designed images to use as panel backgrounds but they tile so it's like one consistent thing as I don't know the dimensions for the length of panels, only the 24 pixel height. I've attached a couple so try them out, they're pretty cool.

A while ago, while moving my LCD monitor, something struck the screen causing some pixels to go black. Months later those pixels grew to a long vertical stripe down the right side of my screen. I'm constantly having to move pallets out of the way so I can see what I'm doing.
Is there a way to change the geometry of the X server to be something like 1800x1080 instead of 1920x1080?

I'm not afraid of bash but I'm not very good with it either. I'm assuming there's a way of using find, perhaps in conjunction with another tool, to find images in a directory (and subdirectories) based on their dimensions?
Specifically, I want to find all the landscape-oriented images and copy them somewhere else.

I am experimenting with attaching a second monitor to my Ubuntu Natty laptop, and I have noticed an annoying "feature" that makes any multi-monitor setup so unusable that I actually prefer my single-monitor laptop setup. It appears that the system automatically "scales" the X- and Y-axis sensitivity of the touchpad to match the dimensions of the "virtual" screen that spans across multiple monitors. This is best illustrated with an example. If I set up two monitors side-by-side, the touchpad's X-axis speed is doubled, so that moving my finger the same distance on the touchpad causes the mouse on the screen to move twice as far in the X direction as it did when I had only a single monitor. Yet the Y-axis sensitivity remains unchanged, so all diagonal mouse movements end up at the wrong angle. This makes the touchpad almost completely useless, since the mouse on the screen does not move in the same direction as my hand on the pad.
Is there anything I can do about this? I just want the X- and Y-axis speeds to be identical, and I definitely don't want my mouse sensitivity changing because I added a screen. The touchpad is a Synaptics touchpad, by the way. The laptop is a Dell M1330 with an nVidia graphics card.

I'm setting up my first Linux install and I was wondering if I would be able to boot Fedora from a CD while keeping every other file on my computer, or in other words if I would be able to put the /boot partition onto a cd. I've also read that Linux can be booted entirely from a logical partition. If that's true then can anyone help me in setting that up. Mostly my problem is I already have four primary partitions, one being a logical drive with plenty of free space in it, and I can't get rid of the primary partitions I already have.

I hope this is the right section, it looks like though. I have a small nas ( via artigo a2000 ) with 2 sata hd 1tb each with raid 1 and lvm on top configured and working great.
sda1 and sdb1 ==> md0 raid1 for /boot
sda2 and sdb2 ==> md1 raid1 for swap
sda3 and sdb3 ==> md2 raid1 as physical volume then volume group and lvs on top ( / is a logial volume of these )
I wish to upgrade the current fedora 12 32bit installation I have on it doing a fresh install. But because I have a lot of data on md2 ( 600GB worth ) which I don't want to copy across somewhere else first, I need to know how ( i am pretty sure i can ) to mount md2 during the installation. This way I can use the data I already have on it.

I really hope this is revelant here, and that someone can help. I have been using fedora for a while now, and I love it. However my brother has started using ubuntu, and wants me to at least try it, which I agreed to. I have created a partition for ubuntu, using Gparted, in fedora 13. My question is, how do i install ubuntu onto this existing partition, whilst keeping the Fedora boot loader, which I think is absolutely fantastic, and would love to keep. In summary; how to install ubuntu on an existing partition, and add it to the fedora boot loader options?

Been away for awhile (Fedora 5 or 6 was what I last ran). Just downloaded Fedora10 and installed it on a drive here, running great, looking slick. What drove me back to Fedora (Linux) is my need to create a simulated webserver to locally test stuff without messing up my live site. I had successfully installed php and mysql, using the specific versions my host uses. I then downloaded the RPM of the specific apache instal, followed the install directions and ran into a snag. Last step, says, "$ PREFIX/bin/apachectl start". I did that and received an error. Tried just typing apachectl start, and it worked. Upon my surprise it loaded Apache 2.2 (mine was a 1.3 release), and of course is Fedora-branded.
My questions are as follows:
Do I know somehow how two versions of Apache on? How do I start up the 1.3 one if so?
If not - How can I remove the 2.2, and what will have become of the 1.3 I installed?

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some tips about this.I have very little fedora experiee and wanna start playing with it now.I'v bin using it for some short time a long ago but nothing much. Now I could use some help with this:Can I and how, instal Fedora11, while having Windows7 instaleed allready and then have them both with dual boot. I guess it should be possible but some tips / guide would be great so I don't kill my windows and have to reinstal all over again, as i wanna keep windows as main OS for work but have fedora to learn as well.By the way, I have 2x640Gb in raid0, 1st partition 100gb with Windows7 on it, and the rest on another partition. Both have data on them. If that means anything for instalation

I am just starting out in linux and am a little confused about mounting drives. On my fedora pc, I have 2 x hard drives. When I originally installed the os, I had 1 drive with the default partitioning. I placed all my data into /var/files and had various folders under there e.g. music, video, docs etc. It didn't take long for this to fill up. So I added a 2nd drive and mounted it as /var/files which increased the space for all the folders in that directory. So my fstab has:
sda1 /
sdb1 /var/files
Now its filling up again and I want to add a 3rd drive. But this time, I want to separate my music from my video's etc but still keep the share under /var/files. So, do I add the 3rd drive, mount it as /var/files/music1, then transfer the music files from /var/files/music to /var/files/music1 and once the transfer is complete, delete /var/files/music, rename /var/files/music1 to /var/files/music and then mount sdc1 to/var/files/music? The bit I can't get my head around is the mount within a mount:
sdb1 /var/files is mounting everything under it including /music
If I add sdc1 /var/files/music how does it affect the mount point of sdb1
Am I better putting the /music under /var/music instead of /var/files?

I am starting a small business for computer repair and was wondering if there is any software available for entering and keeping track of service calls. Right now I am using Kmymoney for keeping track of finances and it seems to be working out ok. I also use day planner to keep track of appointments. However, I haven't found anything to keep track of service calls. Currently, I am pretty much trying to adapt spreadsheets as a "get by" solution but its not that pretty.

I run Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition. Whenever I start Firefox, the window is displayed in fullscreen without the usual controls (close, maximize and minimize). It even covers up the application bar on the left. As far as I can see, this issue only occurs with firefox. Other apps are not affected.

I loaded CentOS from a USB net install as I am trying to get an eeeBox to run CentOS 5.3 as a low power usage firewall. As you might know this box doesn't have an optical drive so everything has to be loaded from something USB. After the net install I ran a yum update and then went to some websites that I use and Firefox would pop a small window which looked like a vertical blue bar with a white dot at the bottom. I could grab it with the mouse and expand it and it would open as a normal window but inside there would be nothing. Usually in other CentOS installations Firefox would put the new window in another tab. When I go to the Edit/Preferences area and click on the tab icon nothing appears on the page...only the mail and security icons work. I unloaded Firefox using yum remove and reloaded it using yum install and now when I start Firefox it pops three windows and every site I go to pops another window with nothing in it. Am I losing my mind, or is there something wrong with my hardware, or is this a bug?

Is there some way top stop the "blind effect" of compiz so that when you double click the top title bar of a window that it maximizes the window instead of the rolling up type effect? Also when i place my mouse on the top right of the screen it brings it to a choosing window type mode where you can pick which window you would like to open, is it possible to get this on the top left of the screen instead? Lastly when I use Kdebluetooth4 to send a file to my computer where does that file save to?

This issue exists with the Private Message popup in Firefox, which if I accept to open it the window is set to 100x100 (very small).
Now the complication. It never was like this. It's not a mozilla setting issue either because I tried a new .mozilla with the same results.

I like to alias my firefox commands so I can open up mutiple pages at once. This works great. firefox [URL]
But if I have firefox already up and running it will open as tabs of the firefox I already have running. How can I open the multiple pages in a new window in this case?
- Using -no-remote could work, but I would have to make a whole different firefox profile for each set of pages, not really a solution. - Also tried setting it to a particular display and it opened as a tab again. ie. firefox [URL] -display=":0.0"

For the last year I was using the version of Firefox that came with 32-bit Karmic Koala. Recently I installed 64-bit Maverick. Meerkat, so I'm now using Firefox 3.6.10. Previously, when first opening Firefox, the window aligned to the left edge of the screen. Now it is centered. The window dimensions are correctly retained between sessions, but not the position. Can I get it to open at the left again?
