I must have installed an add-on that causes this most irritating little glitch. When I'm working in the Firefox window, the top tool bars vanish.. the problem is that the "-,o, x" also vanish. Which add-on is responsible for this bit of grief..?

To do that I have to activate the desktop effects, so I installed drivers for my graphics card which work fine. But I have an infamous issue with my compiz which causes all title bars of windows to disappear. Is there a solution in which I can activate docky and still have my title bars?

I just updated kde 4.1 to 4.2.2 on my intrepid ibex (8.10) but it is updating itself to 9.04 right now. Anyway in 4.2 there are now window title bars on any aps till I start compiz thru terminal and I cannot access my hotmail thru konqurer or firefox.

One feature I did like, though, was that every time a window was maximized, the title bar was integrated into part of the top panel... which saved a lot of space on this tiny little screen. Is there a nice way to get that feature on the normal version of Ubuntu?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI came into work this morning to find XFCE's window manager completely broken: no title bars, unable to move windows around, and unable to focus on a window to type in it (terminal, browser address bar, etc.). I tried going into the preferences then window manager settings, but just got a blank panel. Deleting .config/xfce4 didn't solve the problem.
I'm thinking of just doing a clean install of Xubuntu, or more likely another Xfce-based distro, since my current setup (regular Ubuntu with Xubuntu also installed) is quite messed up (same startup applications being used for Gnome and Xfce, and various other issues). I can't remember whether I did any updates last Friday that might have broken it.
Interestingly I used to have similar issues with Xmonad when I used it - some features didn't work properly and I had to restart the WM to fix them. Never did find a proper solution.
I recently installed openSUSE 11.4 on my computer and laptop (both 64bit via dvd, one has AMD CPU and nVidia gpu, the other has intel cpu and graphics card). The problem is that when I move my mouse on close and minimize and maximize buttons of windows sometimes they aren't rendered correctly, and KDE menues aren't rendered correctly either, they mix with the background somehow. the menu problem goes away if I change the theme to plastik, but the window problem remains, here are links to some picture of what goes wrong in my system:

PS: Enabling or disabling desktop effects has no effect on the problem.
Today upon booting my Xubuntu 9.04, I see that all new windows I open have their title bar missing and on top of my pannel menu. If I try to run windows manager from the menu, nothing shows up on the screen. Therefore I think my windows manager is not running at all. I have no graphic effects and dont want any. I noticed that nothing shows up on the task bar (bottom bar) when I have anything opened up in the desktop. Can't minimize, can't click close button, ...How do I fix this ? I followed a thread to install Compiz and emerald just so I could get it to work but I do not like this option. I do not want any special effects. The more effects/options I have the more possible problems I may get. By the way I also have this problem on my office Ubuntu 10.04. Both started having this problem recently. I suspect it is an update that was done that is causing this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSpice server/client configuration. I used remote viewer on debian jessie to connect to a guest virtual machine on kvm and everything works fine. It used a spice server / client and qxl. After I upgraded to debian stretch, I suddenly face issues with black bars in the remote client window. Those black bars appear only on the left and right side of the remote viewer window. Also in full screen mode the black bars sadly appear. Maybe the scaling mode is somehow disabled or my screen resolution of the host was wrong calculated related to that i can change the guest screen resolution but the spice remote client keeps its window size with the black bars. I was trying the last couple of days to resolve this issue, unfortunately without success.
View 10 Replies View RelatedSo I have these three bars that I suppose are some kind of left over fragment of windows I had up the last time I rebooted. Anyhow, whenever I boot now, these three bars show on my desktop, and I cant get rid of them, they dont have the minimize, maximize or close buttons. Yet when I click the, "show desktop" buttom, they then minimize. HOwever, they don't show up on my window list. I've tried restarting my xsession and that didnt work, I've restarted nautilus that didn't work, I cant right click on them, I already tried xkill and force quite and that doesnt work. They're just always there.

Movie Player and PitVi apps seems to disappear when I load a clip and enlarge the window.
Movie Player will allow a smaller window and the clip to be played but once I stretch the window, it disappear Nope, its not as though I "floored" that window. It's gone.completely.
PiitVi, when loading a clip, once its full loaded, it disappears.
I did try installing and re-installing but same results.
This has been happening sporadically over the past month. I thought it was a problem with 10.04, so I upgraded to 11.04 and it is still occurring.I can't seem to pin down a cause or something that I do to make this happen.Every so often, I will lose the ability to see right click context menus and I am unable to click on the menu buttons. Rather, I can click on the menu names (file, etc), but no menu comes down. I cannot use the keyboard to bring down the menu (alt-f, etc), but I can use keyboard shortcuts to do specific actions (ctrl-t, etc).I was using Firefox 3.6 and now I am using 4 and it is still occurring.

This happens even in safe-mode with one tab open.It's version 3.0.19 on Jaunty.
I run Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition. Whenever I start Firefox, the window is displayed in fullscreen without the usual controls (close, maximize and minimize). It even covers up the application bar on the left. As far as I can see, this issue only occurs with firefox. Other apps are not affected.

Previously, when first opening Firefox, the window aligned to the left edge of the screen. Now it is centered. The window dimensions are correctly retained between sessions, but not the position. Can I get it to open at the left again?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Kubuntu 9.10. All packages are up-to-date. The problem: When opening a new window in firefox, the new window forgets the toolbar settings. So when I start firefox and the first window shows up, it shows my toolbar settings correctly, which is pretty minimalistic actually (no buttons, bookmark menu, google searchbar, etc.). But when I then open a new window from the original one, the new window has forgotten my toolbar settings and shows all the buttons, the searchbar, etc..
This happens irrespective from if I hit Ctrl+N, or print firefox after hitting Alt+F2 (which just opens a second window since the firefox process is already running). What can I do? I read in some other post that you should delete some settings file that might have gone corrupt, but I have done this and it did not help.
I used a custom firefox icon (included in hydroxygen theme) in jaunty. Now, in karmic, the window icon is stuck with the default firefox icon. I managed to get the gnome menu and panel icons to change by sim-linking to my desired icons and naming the links "firefox-3.5.png" I can see my custom icon when I first start Firefox, when the "starting firefox" window appears in the tasklist. After the main window is up, the icon reverts to the default icon.If you don't know what I mean here's a screenshot where I have an already-opened window alongside an opening window. I would like the window to use the icon in the instance on the right.

In case any one wants to see what I am trying to tell just open that page [url] and try to click on some menu button in navigation bar. You will see an advertisement "Play online games"
Now I would like to tell Firefox-->Edit-->Preferences-->Content-->Block Pop up windows there is a tick on that box.
Also as I open that page[url] I do see a message in firefox which says this page tried to open pop up windows which have been blocked. And inspite of this message I get to see that advertisement of "playing online games" It has been so frustrating and annoying to each time close that pop up.
My question is inspite of the option of blocking pop up windows enabled why do I get to see this advertisement. Can I some how stop this behavior. I use Lucid 64 bit and Firefox 3.6.10
I have a weird issue about url-handling: When I have an url in any application, and click it, firefox opens up in a NEW window, but does NOT open the url, instead the ubuntu-startpage...
This is totally against my settings: firefox is the default browser, and is set to open url's in a new tab. So, I have checked stuff in about:config, and even tried making an entire new profile. Checked evolutions settings, but too bad, nothing there.
I loaded CentOS from a USB net install as I am trying to get an eeeBox to run CentOS 5.3 as a low power usage firewall. As you might know this box doesn't have an optical drive so everything has to be loaded from something USB. After the net install I ran a yum update and then went to some websites that I use and Firefox would pop a small window which looked like a vertical blue bar with a white dot at the bottom. I could grab it with the mouse and expand it and it would open as a normal window but inside there would be nothing. Usually in other CentOS installations Firefox would put the new window in another tab. When I go to the Edit/Preferences area and click on the tab icon nothing appears on the page...only the mail and security icons work. I unloaded Firefox using yum remove and reloaded it using yum install and now when I start Firefox it pops three windows and every site I go to pops another window with nothing in it. Am I losing my mind, or is there something wrong with my hardware, or is this a bug?
