Jun 15, 2009

Have you guys had this weird nautilus error? When I su to root and run "nautilus" in terminal, errors popped out:

Code: (nautilus:3979): EggSMClient-WARNING **: Failed to connect to the session manager: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported(nautilus:3979): Eel-WARNING **: GConf error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.)

CentOS 5 :: GnomeUI-WARNING **: While Connecting To Session Manager?

Mar 19, 2010

2.6.18-164.11.1.el5 x86_64 x86_64
centos-release-5-4.el5.centos.1

I have been updating my system and making a few changes and now I have a serious problem with GNOME (as far a I understand). In the Desktop if I try to start some applications such as the text editor gedit it crashes and won't start. Some applictions start from the menu some don't (e.g. services) and others start and then crash if I try to example manipulate them (e.g. open a file in openoffice).

In the case of gedit if I try to run it from the command line as root I get the following

# gedit

(gedit:6475): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager: Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.Illegal instruction [code]....

When I try to start the services (i.e. /usr/bin/system-config-services) I get:

Fedora :: Virtualbox Error 'Failed To Open Session For Virtual Machine Windows 7'

Jun 6, 2011

When i try to create a virtual machine using the Windows 7 Enterprise Evaluation iso file, everything goes as planned untill i click on the start button. when i click on it i get two error messages. the first: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows 7. The virtual machine 'Windows 7' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1. Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908). The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. reinstall the kernel module by executing

'/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'

as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary. i have installed the DKMS package, but when i try to run the command stated in the error message, i get another error message in the terminal:

[code]...

i have to install the driver that is specified (vboxdrv) but i do not know where to find it.

Ubuntu :: Synergy - WARNING: Failed To Connect To Server: Timed Out

Feb 6, 2010

I've been using synergy on Ubuntu 9.04 and windows xp.Synergy 1.3.1 on both machines. My problem is that the server keeps cutting out. It seems to happen a lot when I watch flash videos on the server machine (ubuntu). This is what the server side looks like:

Code:

NOTE: synergys.cpp,500: started server
INFO: CServer.cpp,1141: screen "server" shape changed
NOTE: CClientListener.cpp,127: accepted client connection

[code]....

I dont think I usually get disconnected when doing other tasks. Mostly only when watching flash videos. Sometimes it doesnt automatically reconnect, and I have to kill synergys and restart it.

Fedora Hardware :: NVIDIA Driver - System Randomly Logs The User Out And / Or Restarts The Session With No Warning

Jan 31, 2011

I've recently installed Fedora 14 (x86_64) on my Alienware m15x laptop which has a NVIDIA GTX 260m onboard. Now I have followed leigh123linux's guide to installing those drivers on F14. The installation is a success and everything seems to be in working order, until the system randomly logs the user out and/or restarts the session with no warning. The screen goes black and the nvidia logo appears and then its back to the login screen again. This can happen many times with no apparent stop insight. This does not happen with the default F14 drivers that come with the installation, I have tried several re installations of the Fedora OS and several re installations of the NVIDIA driver, i still have the same problems.

General :: Error - The Session Manager Initialization System Process Terminated Unexpectedly With A Status

Jun 5, 2011

I installed slackware 12.1 from files i downloaded and converted to cd (images). There are six "disks" i downloaded from the slackware site and converted to images via a homemade .cmd in windows xp and then burned using imgburn.

I partitioned my hd (canibalized from an acquaintance's emachine and connected it to my desktop (1G ram, 2Ghz processor). Booted from disk 1 and fomatted the 80G HD for 2 partitions of linuxswapable at 2G apeice and 2 partitions of bootable linux. (Because i want to try another distro later). I ran the setup installing most everything and all seemed to go well. After i exited setup and restarted, it identifed the cd/hd as normal and then went into some sort of recovery mode with the emachine logo call pcangel, after which it tells me.

STOP: c0000021a (fatal system error) The session manager initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000003a (0x00000000 0x00000000). the system has been shut down. So, is this indeed an xp error message, and if so, why am i getting it after formatting everything?

Fedora :: Sound Breakup In 12 - WARNING: Connection Failed Reconnecting

Apr 2, 2010

I have serious sound breakup with fedora 12. When I try I get: gnome-volume-control: WARNING **: Connection failed, reconnecting over and over. I know there is a price to be paid in terms of time and effort to run Linux. But I don't really want to have to fiddle with my sound system each time I upgrade. Every time I get my hopes up that Linux is easy enough to attract wide appeal, something comes along to show me I'm wrong. Most people don't want to live with the hassle. I will continue whether I get an answer or not. I will figure this out one way or another. But if more people were attracted to use Linux it would be easier for all of us.

Ubuntu :: Nautilus Deletes Files Without Warning / Fix It?

Nov 14, 2010

I've noticed since upgrading to Maverick that nautilus has become very buggy and crashes quite a bit (I've noticed it tends to happen during multiple file transfers but really it happens often and not only because of transfers).

While I've been able to tolerate this crashiness, today I came across a problem that is very distressing. If I have two files in a folder and I rename one so that it has the same filename as the other, nautilus does not display an error message. Instead what seems to happen is that it retains one file and deletes the other permanently (There seems to be nothing in the trash as far as I can tell).

Has anyone come across this error before? If you have, I'd really appreciate any advice on how to fix it.
