Is it possible to change my current nautilus window to have sudo capabilities,? e.g. to delete locked files. It may be lazy but if it takes a lot of navigation then it would be handy to somehow activate sudo from the open window without the terminal command (gksudo nautilus) which always begins at root.

How to call Nautilus file browser with root permissions? "sudo nautilus" does not work. Under Ubuntu there is a command:
"gksu nautilus"
but this does not work in CentOS either.
How do you resolve the error, "failed to load session "Gnome"" at start up?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just manage to set up a number of computers using NComputing thin clients. I have set up 5 user accounts.People will be using these account randomly. So what I want is to set up everything as it should be and that to be the default setting. If users download files or make changes to the files these should be for the session. On startup/shutdown all the files and changes should be deleted this way the next user can find the machine clean. And also there is limited maintenance to be done.

what I'd like to have is a way to open a terminal directly from Nautilus and the terminal's active directory should be the one that is opened in Nautilus. Does Nautilus have a plugin system or is there another way to add this functionality?

I launch it from docky's bookmarks applet, requires root.
Use a command like "nautilus /home/harvey" it still requires root.
Adding the file browser launcher to docky doesn't even LAUNCH nautilus.
But launching file browser from gnome-panel works O_O.
But I never use gnome-panel, so I'd like to be able to launch it from docky and commands and stuff without root permission.
I work on Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome.When I open a directory, I can search with Ctrl-f (edited Ctrl-F instead of F3). However, the search starts in my home directory (the home directory is the default). That can be fixed by adding new criteria in the search results. However, I would like to change the default directory always to the directory or folder from which I start the search.How can I convince Nautilus to search by default for files and folder names in the current directory or folder (the one from which I start searching)?

My fedora 14 has OpenSSH_5.5p1, OpenSSL 1.0.0a-fips 1 Jun 2010 running. I am able to use putty to ssh to my fedora. I installed NXSERVER - Version 3.2.0-74-SVN OS (GPL, using backend: 3.3.0) but when i used nxclient to connect to the server i always got 'session x' failed.

I don't have in GDM any session option and no way to approach to terminal and start any session. Only way can be somehow before GDM (Lucid by default don't have Grub) or via Live USB (but how?).
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to VNC into a server to which I have no physical access (but I can ask someone to start a session or something) but can ssh into. I have gotten a VNC session working by sshing in and running vncserver, although once the VNC session died in a confusing manner.
I don't know how to start a VNC session any way but vncserver, which is odd since I'm sure that Ubuntu's Remote desktop should somehow allow me to do this by default. The server by the way is being used as a desktop by someone else. Also, how do I tell if my VNC is encrypted and if it isn't how do I make sure it is?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having issues logging into my system... After authenticating via GDM, the screen goes black with only the mouse showing and remains this way indefinitely. At first the hard disk is active to a similar degree as it was when logins were successful, but then the system (apart from being able to move the mouse) is unresponsive.
If left for long enough so that the screen goes into power-saving mode, moving the mouse brings up the unlock dialogue that you normally get if you set your computer to lock itself after a period of idleness.
I suspect some sort of file corruption, as I have not changed any settings recently. I have forced checks on all of my disks in the hope it would solve this problem. I have also tested logging in on a freshly created user account I created which gives the same result. Also, starting an xterm session from GDM works fine.
How do i start an alternate X session in ubuntu...generally Ctrl + Alt + F7-F11 is reserved for alternate X sessions right. If I open a tty1 and do something like xinit -- :1 I guess I have something like an X session but it doesn't have any desktop environment like Gnome...what i want to do is if I am running a fullscreen game or something in Xsession:0 can I do something else in a new Xsession?
