having had problems with getting grub2 to work on dual HDD setup...despite the most excellent advice on the forum i took the plunge and installed 10.10 from update manager within 10.04..... bingo fixed grub and now have dual boot again. but the update manager and synaptic package don't work because of libedata-cal1.2-6 file that remains..following other advice on the forum Advice gratefully received, how can i force an unistall of this package

Today i upgraded my system and started getting error when i update, install or remove a package. The error isn't restricted only to one repository so i thing something is wrong with my system.

I've tried deleting the cached files, changing my server, checking that my date & time are correct (signing can be time sensitive), updating gpg (it was already at the latest), and maybe some other things I've forgotten.
Slightly New user of Ubuntu 10.4 It doesn't seem to matter what i try and install or uninstall all lead to similar error messages. (TRYING TO INSTALL I GET)
This is the error I got when I tried to update it today. On the top the icon for the update manager is a red circle with a white line like a stop sign. Since upgrading to Natty I have a very annoying issue and since I am unable to resolveWhenever I start the synaptics package manager I get the following message:An error occurred:E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit I have not been able to update using the update manager or by using the package manager. It seems when the update manager tries to download all the requests fail.Anyone else had this problem??
I get this error ALL THE TIME after a reboot if I try to print. Going to the printing applet to add the printer does no good because Lucid is not connected to the CUPS server. I found that the work-around below fixes the issue for the current session.

I am running 11.04 on an HP tx2 laptop. I have been able to perform updates until the last one. Then I get the following message when I try to use update manager or terminal to get updates or just to generally install a new program. I performed the update from 10.10 online so I don't have the cd nor will I be able to download it. Not enough time to do so.

It started with Update Manager constantly recycling and not updating. When it starts it shows 295 files and 308MB waiting to download. When I click on 'Install Updates' it appears to go through the process, and then presents me with the same 'waiting to install' window again - and again, and again - in fact as many times as I care to click the 'Install Updates' button. No error messages appear. The 'Settings' button produces the same apparent process as the 'Install Updates' button, but doesn't present me with any other screen.
I've tried all the solutions I could find on these forums and nothing works. The sudo suggestions for Terminal usually produce error codes. adjusting a line in the 'hosts' file. When I tried this I was presented with the obstacle of not having access to the read-only file, and no matter how much I searched I couldn't find how to gain access . While investigating all these possible solutions, I was directed in turn to the Software Sources and Synaptic Package Manager applications, but when I attempted to start them, 'Starting Administrative Application' appeared briefly on the taskbar - and then disappeared!
Software center, update manager, Synaptic package manager crashes for no reason. I have not done any recent changes or downloads. I'm running a fresh install of ubuntu 11.04

I have gone to a couple locations and the files exist and the hash is correct, and the file types are correct. I have tried replacing the sources file. I have tried sudo rm -r /var/lib/apt/lists sudo apt-get clean sudo apt-get update with the same problem happening upon updating. In the same exact areas.

I just installed Fedora9 in my desktop. The installation was successful and it was doing security update and system update right after install. After all the update service finished, I do a manual update to see what happy (Sysem>Administration>Update System). It keeps coming up with Package Error with the message "failed to get a TID: Incorrect path with ';' returned!".
I've just installed ubuntu 10.04 and see that there are a two type installation software? why there are two things? What are the benefits of these two? What are the Difference Between Synaptic Package Manager and Update Manager?
