Ubuntu Multimedia :: Movie Player That Can Stream Movies Without Stopping Every 12 Seconds To Reload?
Feb 27, 2011I am wondering if there is some one I can let in to my PC via the net, to help me with 2 program problems.
1) A movie player that actually can stream the movies without stopping every 12 seconds to reload?
2) I have a soundblaster Xfi sound card that I cannot get to work on Ubuntu 10.4. It has my midi ins and outs on it so my key board and recording suite is shot.

May 14, 2011I'm trying to watch a DVD video using Movie Player, but nothing happens. It asked for a MPEG-2 decoder but then said Gstream already had the decoder. But to be sure I hunted down some rpm files with a free MPEG-2 decoder and installed them. Nothing happened. Before that, Movie Player asked for an Advanced Stream Format Demuxer. Then it told me it was already installed. I tried to uninstall Gstream. Maybe it was installed badly for reasons unknown, but the uninstaller warned that it would take 50 files with it.
I got the impression it was daring me to uninstall Gstream, so I chickened out. But I am upset now. This problem has wasted half of my Saturday day off and it is still not solved. I forgot to say I had also installed libdvdcss, in desperation. Nothing happened. This computer does display DVD videos with Movie Player using a different distro. I'm not surprised Fedora has problems. But you figure by 2011, watching a DVD video should be no problem by now in any distribution.

Apr 13, 2010I am 75 years old, i have used DOS and Windows since their inception.Linux based operating systems are it seems to me overly complicated in nomenclature having used the MS systems all these years.I have spent hours trying to download plug-ins to make the movie player work and always get the same result ,,, I need plig-ins.With out being told how to build a watch I would like to know the time,,, there must be a simple download to install a working movie player on this Fedora 12 system.

* MPEG-1 Layer 3(MP3) decoder
* XVID MPEG-4 decode
Do you want to search for these now? Once I click on the search button, it searches for the plugins, and after a while prompts with the error message that the plugins couldn't be found. Where will I find the plugins?

Aug 22, 2010now the totem movie player is not able to play the video files, not only video files it cannot play anything includeing mp3 songs. here are some screenshots when i tried to open the video files...

Sep 20, 2010I recently installed Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. It is working well, but Movie Player does not work, and Dragon Player plays videos/movies but with no audio. VLC works fine. how to either remove Movie Player and Dragon Player or make them work. I tried apt-get remove mplayer but that doesn't work. If not that, I wonder if the default media player can be changed to VLC, e.g., when you click any video it will start to play using VLC?

Nov 4, 2010I have a DVD with a error located at a certain time. Each time I watch the DVD and then come to that point Movie Player (or vlc player) returns a error. Now I want to rip this DVD but all the rippers I tried return a error at that point when they try to rip it. Rippers I tried:

I have most of my movies in .avi/Divx. when I was using Ubuntu the default movie player would play my vids but when I went full screen the movie would just disappear and would have to shut it down and restart it. May 10, 2010I can't play movies when I have browsers open. I am not sure if it is the browser, or what. I ran totem, and vlc in a terminal, and it says insufficient resources when I try to open a movie (see snapshot).

Jun 5, 2010I ran Movie Player to play .mov file, but it generate the following error message:
pa_stream_writable_size() failed: Connection terminated
The .mov file is wide screen, I am not sure if that's why the error occurred. By the way, the .mov file is several hundred megabytes and store on DVD.

Jun 15, 2010I'm just getting started with Ubuntu 64-Bit. Basically, I have Totem Movie Player and VLC Media Player installed and every time I watch a movie in either one of them. If I tab out of them or minimize them, when I bring the media player back up the screen is black. The sound still works perfectly but I can't see the movie and I've tried several media players out and they all do the same thing. Basically I can't multitask or bring up anything else while I watch a movie or I have to restart the player because of the media screen going black.
I'm not sure if my computer specs will help but here they are:
Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid 64-Bit
Intel Xeon X3210 2.13GHz Quad
4GB DDR2-800 RAM
ATI Radeon 4870 512MB Videocard

Mar 22, 2010Anyone know what it's listed under?9.10 Karmic Koala..I'm customising all my preferred aps and use the amazing VLC for videos, I don't want 'Movie Player' there, but I can't find it in Synaptic to delete it and want it gone, not just the shortcut deleted.
Whilst discussing preferred aps, I can also highly recommend ditching Firefox and Evolution for Opera; more features, faster browsing, handles plugin videos better (no greying out), has a built in mail client so everything's in one place, etc. Tried just about every other browser, always go back to Opera.
