CentOS 5 Server :: Apache Hanging On Forum Reply Posts?

Apr 1, 2010

I recently moved my site to a new server (Apache 2, PHP5, MySQL5). The site is an Invision based forum. Every few posts / topics it just hangs. The data has been written because if you stop and reload, the post / thread is there. I thought it was a write issue initially, but nope. So, the data is written but the page load never completes. It doesn't leave the page where the data has been input.

Whats the best way to trouble shoot this issue? The only thing I have done recently is reduce my MySQL timeouts, but I can't see that being an issue as the values are still big enough and there are no mentions of timeouts in the MySQL log. (For the record there is nothing in PHP's error log either)

I have checked my server-status. It all looked ok, but I have a suspicion I was hitting my ServerLimit, so I doubled that. Also enabled my Keepalives. Will keep an eye on it.

Some additional info;

1. Apache is throwing seg faults, but enabling core dumps does not produce them.

2. I have tried disabling the modules in apache but it just stops things from working.

3. I fear it may actually be DNS related. If I watch Live Headers in Firefox, absolutely nothing happens during this 'hanging' period. After that, the responses come back fairly promptly.

Fedora :: Nautilus Can't View Home Folder?

Mar 12, 2010

When I try to view ~ in nautilus, the animation in the upper right corner just spins indefinitely. It happens when I run nautilus as root too.Typing "ls -la" in the home folder will cause the term to freeze. Neither "ls -a" or "ls -l" by themselves cause it to freeze The freezing only happens in ~ to my knowledge.The freezing terminal also ONLY happens in xterm, inside gnome. Through ssh I can display the folder contents just fine, and I don't see any strange file names that might be causing an issue.I tried following advice I found, I believe on this site, to "rm -rf ~/.gvfs"I feel that I may e overwritten a fedora-specific library somewhere when trying to compile different things. I don't recall this being an issue immediately after upgrading from fc10 to fc12, though it could have conceivably gone unnoticed.

Fedora :: Win7 Can't View Samba Shares In F12?

Apr 26, 2010

I just installed a F12 server at home, replacing a FC9 server that ran samba to share media files. I had no problems connecting to samba on FC9 (the version escapes me, sorry) however Win7 seems to be fighting the F12 samba (v3.4.7) trying to do the same thing. I create a directory share, it shows up in windows explorer, but when I try and open it win7 tells me I dont have rights to it.

I created a printer share via samba, and successfully connected to it from win7 and use it as my default printer, and that works OK. I know win7 uses smb2 as its samba protocol, and that might be some of the problem (or all of it), but I'm not sure. I also have googled and saw that people have had had issues with samba as their domain controller while trying to join win7 into the domain, however I do not use win7 as a pdc at all. The solution for this seems to be registry hacks, but I am not sure they apply to me as I haven't seen anyone correlate it. Tailing the logs, this is what I see when I try and explore the file share from win7:

Code:
[2010/04/26 13:09:56, 1] smbd/notify_inotify.c:421(inotify_watch)
inotify_add_watch returned Permission denied

Now I have edited smb.conf manually in the past but to try anything I've even played with webmin to see all the options I might be missing, still my conf is fairly simple:

[Code]...

I see the movies share in win7, but it doesn't let me in. I tried disabling requiring 128bit encryption for NTLM as one suggestion but that didn't work. Also changing local security policies to send LM & NTLM responses, and that didn't work.

Fedora :: View Files In Windows XP Partition?

Dec 2, 2010

I'm trying to view my files in my windows XP partition and I tried the following with no success:

1. updated /etc/fstab to include the following line:

/dev/sda1 /mnt/win ntfs-3g defaults 0 0

2. tried this command to mount sda1:

mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sda1 /mnt/win (got an error message saying no such file or directory)

Here's what Fdisk shows:

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 581 8924 67023180 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda2 1 580 4658818+ b W95 FAT32
/dev/sda3 8925 8988 512000 83 Linux
/dev/sda4 8988 19458 84096000 5 Extended
/dev/sda5 8988 19458 84094976 8e Linux LVM

Since I'm pretty green at Linux, this is all I know how to do (for now). Isn't there a way for Fedora to auto mount these devices when it boots up?
