I have a very strange problem. Pictures and Icons are not displaying in my laptop. I'm using fedora 15 64 bit. Suddenly every thing gone. I don't know how to troubleshoot this problem. Pls have a look on the attached screen-shot.

Basically the camera uploads the photos but i cannot view them for some reason,it wont let me but they appear as blank,yet my partner plugs her sony ericson phone in and it uploads and shows all of her photos i can not understand this as all photos are jpeg.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAm using openofficeorg. 3.0 on my linux server and everytime i insert jpeg pictures or scan pictures and insert them in my word, i cant view the pictures directly in word unless i preview. when i insert the picture in word it only show me the frame and its written on graphics 1 but when i page preview i can see the picture and even the printer can print the picture.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there an option to open a random picture with feh to be able to view all the pics in this directory with left and right buttons? To do that I need to open this particular directory with feh. But what about opening a picture? For me it's more convenient because I have this assotiation in dolphin and it's not the best way to open a dir with feh in dolphin. I just click an image and dolphin opens it with "feh -FY". I was looking through man feh and found nothing.

View 6 Replies View Relatedin my quest to reduce chrome and padding in Nautilus, I've come across something I can't seem to find on my own. I know there are 3 basic views - icons, list, and compact - and I prefer list; however, on the left of the list view, there is a 20-25px or so (depending on theme of course) of margin/padding/space on the left - reserved for the + or - or arrows indicating a folder can be expanded inline.
I would simply like to remove this space (and the cooresponding +/- icons). I realize this will relinquish my ability to expand folders inline - which is fine with me, I don't use the feature much anyway.I can probably surmise where the actual icons live, reverse engineering a theme or what have you... but I'm guessing that still won't change that space.
is there any way to get a more "vanilla" list view?UPDATE: while I don't think specs really matter to this question, here's what I'm running anyway:Ubuntu 10.10, 32bit in Gnome (default for that Ubu version) using mostly stock Nautilus besides it being the Elementary build (hidden menubar and such).

View 6 Replies View RelatedRunning Ubuntu 10.10 along side Windows7 on a 64-bit HP Pavilion dv7 Laptop. Everything works in Windows. Everything works in Ubuntu, except for 2 things.1) I can live with not being able to enable/disable wifi.) I cannot read photos from an SD card plugged into the laptops SD card reader. When I open the SD card in Ubuntu, I can see the file name, but the thumbnails show messed up pictures. Usually, the bottom half of the photo is solid green, and there are usually lines running through the photo, or it is divided into quadrants with one quadrant being ok, but the rest having the green and/or lines.I assume the driver for the card reader is not correct. Card reader works fine in Windows. So I have to reboot into windows, copy pictures from reader to a folder, then reboot into Ubuntu and I can see and open the photos just fine. Just cannot read and copy them from the card while in Ubuntu.

I recently got a new laptop, put in a couple partitions, installed windows in one and ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit) in another (ext4, 50GB, boot), left another partition for swap (6GB) and finally another for storage (160GB, ntfs). I'm also using an nvidia GeForce 460M with nvidia-current installed (version 260.19.06). My problem is that all the icons (power "button", network manager, etc), general menus (e.g. in firefox) look "classic". That is to say not the "slick" appearance that I'm used to in the latest ubuntu.
I'm thinking it is something to do with either:
1) my X server config
2) gnome install
3) general incompatability with latest nvidia driver
I've looked through a bunch of different forum posts around nvidia and ubuntu (thinking this was the main source), but can't seem to find anything quite like this.To no avail, I've tried:
1) Fiddling with the X server settings through the nvidia app
2) reinstalling gnome-desktop, gnome-panel
3) reinstalling the nvidia driver
4) installing compiz (much prettier special effects, not a solution to the basic problem)
5) Messing around with appearance settings.

yesterday I upgraded my Fedora installation via preupgrade from 11 to 12.Now there are some icons missing! If I go to the 'System' menu in the panel, there are no icons at all.If then I select the 'Settings' submenu, all of its icons are visible.I figured out that the package redhat-menus and fedora-icon-theme make up the representation of this icons and reinstalled them. Then I additionally executed 'gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders-64 > /etc/gtk-2.0/x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf.loaders' (I read this somewhere in the forum).
But nothing happend so far?!
I made further efforts trying to find out the icon of the System Configuration Menu (Syst -> Administration). The file '/usr/share/desktop-directories/SystemConfig.directory' contains the icon that should be displayed for the System->Administration menu. This file contains the line: Icon=preferences-system Good so far.I thought that selecting the gnome icon theme would fix this problem, but this also didn't help!Now I'm at the end of my knowledge (or I don't want to rename single icons to match the names required)...
I have seen on some sites 360 pictures that you can click on and look round an image like a car etc.. Has anyone ever done this? if so how!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was recording a DVD when I wanted to look at a folder to see if there was a file there. I went to "places", as I always do, and a window poped up asking for a password. This has never happened before. I entered the password and went to the folder. I always view folders as "list", then they displayed as "icons". I finished the recording and re-started. It still appears the same, and when I open programs I notice little differences in the way things look and feel. The reason I was recording DVD's was to get some of the movies off my hard drive. It was down to 81Gbs free, It now says there is 365 Gbs free. I have searched everything and I see nothing missing.

This is not really a problem but I'd like to know if anything can be done about it.I run Fedora 12 (kernel 2.6.32.23-170.fc12.i686)/Gnome 2.28.2 on my Acer Aspire One netbook with a 1.6GHz Atom CPU and 1.5Gb RAM.I use a Huawei E160 mobile broadband modem to get online and this works OK; but (for example) I am on Airliners.net and looking at the trip reports, the photos are somewhat 'fuzzy'. Obviously the modem does not download too much data and you just have to do Shift+A to get it to 'reload' the pictures. After this they are crystal clear.However, is there a config setting that you could alter to do this automatically � e.g. download all the image data at once? I have looked in the Network Manager settings for my mobile broadband account and there is nothing in there.

I am having trouble importing photographs from my camera onto the computer. I've tried several different programs, and I have F-Spot and digiKam.
In digiKam, it auto-detects my camera, but I get this message when I attempt to import pictures:Failed to connect to the camera. Please make sure it is connected properly and turned on. Would you like to try again?
I've seen this problem before on different forums, but I couldn't find any solutions that I understand. Do I have to mess with permissions? I don't know what this means, and I could use some help.
F-spot doesn't even detect my camera. I read that F-spot requires gphoto libraries that would have something for my device. Unfortunately, on this list my camera isn't listed. The Nikon Coolpix L120 connects via USB cable.
