View 1 RepliesI'm trying to debug a gtk app on ubuntu that crashes from time to time when I open a dialog. Lately I have found a sequence of actions that always reproduces the bug. And I always get this error: Assertion 'pthread_setspecific(t->key, userdata) == 0' failed at pulsecore/thread-posic.c:200, function pa_tls_set(). Aborting.
So my app seems to crash because an error in pulseaudio, which is strange. I made some google search and apparently, this problem exists with other apps. Then, following a suggestion in a bug report, I opened sound-preferences and disabled windows and buttons sounds. And surprise? No more crash. I know that gtk handles events from windows and buttons and so does pulseaudio. So, could it possibly be a bug in pulseaudio instead of in my app? Does anyone have an idea of what's going on here?
I've recently installed GPSDrive, but it doesn't seem to recognize my Garmin GPS, which is plugged into the USB port. Can anyone help me with this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am going to use "pthread_setaffinity_np" to bind a thread to a specific core. My application has two threads. I have used mutex to assign a specific id to each thread and then bind that thread to a core different from another core. but it seems that the os assigns both thread to one core. What should I do to bind each thread to a specific core?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to upgrade from version 11 to v13. I have tried using preinstall as well as 2 live CDs (gnome and KDE). In all cases, I get a message saying that the HD which contains FC11 needs to be reinitialized.
My most recent attempt was to upgrade using the preinstall. Upon reboot, Grub still shows the old (v11) and I can boot that with no problem. If I choose the upgrade option, it fails!
Failure message: Error processing drive /dev/sdc

The device may have to be reinitialized

The drive (sdc) contains several other flavors of Linux and they all run fine. FC11 also runs from that drive with no problem.

This time I really want to keep track of ALL the changes I inflict to the stock configuration files in /etc, anyone knows of good way to do that? I was thinking git, but may be it's overkill. I guess, I could simply make a list of files I changed...es,What I do is that I have /root/orig and /root/local. Orig contains a copy of every stock file Pat ships that I make a change to, and I keep my changed copy in /root/local and then copy it into place.

In Xorg.0.log, if you have an extension disabled in the configuration file, you will see: (**) Extension DAMAGE disabled In the first few lines ... however, later on you see (II) Initializing built-in extension DAMAGE So which is it? Is there a memory map or something I can dump and view to see which extensions are actually loaded into the X server? Is there a delineation between "disabled/enabled" and "initialized"? OK I found it:
xdpyinfo -queryExtensions | awk '{print; if (NF<=1) exit;}'
I am running F10KDE, and I got fed up with K3b. I am dual-booting with WinVista. I want to upgrade to F11KDE, and keep Vista, too. So, I went to Vista and ran Roxio to make a bootable iso image of the F11 file. Success. Went to boot with the DVD I had just created as a supposed bootable DVD, and got a message: "Missing operating system."
View 3 Replies View Relatedi got a dual-boot. both are debian. yesterday i upgraded one of them to debian-squeeze and to grub2.that installations boots just fine.but for the second i get the error message from the thread title:"render error detected"after the grub-menu.if i choose single user mode it boots and hangs waiting for the root file system.i found this results at google (which i am not allowed to post yet) but i don't understand them.

A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. log out and try again", and it repeated every time I tried to log in. I created a file "gnome-shell.desktop" in the ~/.config/autostart directory, the error message no longer appears, but I get only a wallpaper which means no top bar or else. The file's content is as follows:

There's a 3.5 years old bug in redhat bugs database, that's still not resolved, regarding dbus trying to use ldap auth, before ldap service is started.Workaround is to change ldap config to soft binding.
3.5 years for a bug that affect enterprise users - are you there redhat?
attempted to "install it to a USB memory stick". I am having a hard time recreating the actual steps that he took. boot the computer and "Missing Operating System" message in upper left corner of screen. Not good, I think. I insert the Max OS X install disk and boot holding the "c" key so the system boots from the CD. Instead of installing, there is a disk utility tool from the pull-down. It shows the system hard-drive and the CD/DVD drive. So far so good. When I look closer at the hard drive, there appears to be a single Linux partitiion. No Mac OS partition. I know enough about computers to know that if the Mac OS disk partition is not visible, there' s probably no easy way to retrieve the 1.5 years worth of family pictures, applications, website I had built, etc. My "best guess" is that somewhere along the way, when he tried to install Fedora to the USB memory stick, that he inadvertantly attempted to install it to the hard drive. best route to recovery?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have written a demon/service listening to a socket to accept and process connecting clients. I've modelled the service on the multi-threaded example given by [url].
The service seems to work correctly, processing clients then at what appears to be random points, it will terminate and I don't seem to get any error messages or information.
I'm executing the demon script by using another script, attempting to catch any output.
Both scripts are attached.

I added about 6GB of music into it (via Rhythmbox). When I eject and disconnect the ipod, it tells me that 6GB are occupied, but the music directory says that it's empty. Does the ipod need to be "initialized" in itunes? I have another ipod that was first used in itunes and it never gave me any issues with Rhythmbox.I have two machines running Ubuntu 9.10. I can't get itunes working with wine, and I don't have a mac or a windows machine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm finalizing the the dual-boot addition that I recently completed. I've added lubuntu to the LT3114u Netbook that I use. That's done, now I'm migrating my user environment back from the Cygwin one that I've been using on Windoze, as of late. One of features that's been useful has been the global environment management possible with the windoze UI functions. As I coded my emacs environment while 'over there' (windoze side), I included a check for the lisp library repository path environment variable EMACSLOADPATH. It is globally available when one logs in, and does not get set in any user scripts, or dot files any to do with CYGWIN or emacs.
While it has been easy enough to set EMACSLOADPATH for the login shell environment, via .bashrc, .profile, and system wide via /etc/profile, I have not been able to have '/usr/bin/emacs23' have EMACSLOADPATH set when invoked via the LXDE UI. Thus, it would appear that emacs is not being initialized with the same environment that any of the shells are (old school?). Thus, what is it that one must update in order to have GNU emacs initialized with the same environment variables as bash? Or, put another way, why aren't the environment variable defined in /etc/profile, ~/.bashrc and/or ~/.profile ending up in the initialized environment upon invocation of emacs23 on lubuntu Linux?
