Server :: Any Way To Follow Links With Samba?
Jun 29, 2010Can you tell me if there is any way to follow links in samba code...
User can access files in both directories if he connects to the system (with ssh, login, ...).
So if he does "cd /dir/subdir1/link ; ls" he will see both files.
Now, dir1 is shared with samba (but not dir2). What I want is that users connect from Windows with \machinedir1dir2 and see both files.
Is that possible?
I've tried with follos links and wide links, but it hasn't work as I wanted.

Apr 12, 2010"Something happened" to my samba install, and it was working fine, and is still largely working fine, except I cant browse via syn links created with:

This used to work fine, and i cant figure out what happened...
I rebooted, (after umount -a, then commenting out the connected usb drives from fstab and turning them off...reboot...turn on drives one by one, uncomment from fstab, mount -a...its a bit of a drag rebooting! Quite a few updates happened (openSuse11.2)...
I can still browse all the samba shares directly but I cant follow a symlink anymore ("you do not have permission to view this file") from the same windows client to any of them if they are linked as above.
I have searched What am I doing wrong?

Apr 29, 2010Recently Firefox is showing some but not all the links inside a page in a website that I use every day.Firefox had worked well in the past years with this site, so I made a few tests:- I tested the web page on Firefox 3.5.9 on Fedora 12. Some links missing.- I tested the same web page on IE8 on Windows Vista. No issues, all links there.- I tested the same web page downgrading Firefox to version 3.5.4 and downgrading the required libraries. Same issue, some links missing.- I compared the html code that the web server hands to both IE8 and Firefox. They are exactly the same.I don't know enough about html or javascript to understand why Firefox doesn't like some of this code portion.

I have check all my settings and they seem to be fine. Firefox is default browser, clicking a link should open a new tab in Firefox
but id does not work.
What happens is that when I click a link it starts/opens Firefox but with empty address bar.
I need to manually copy link location and paste it manually in Firefox.
What to do to fix it?

Mar 30, 2010I have been having trouble getting Thunderbird to open links within my emails. When a link is clicked there is no response at all. I am running firefox version 3.6.2 and Thunderbird 3.0.3. After surfing the interweb and the forums I have tried setting the default browser through Firefox itself and through the preferred applications GUI in Ubuntu with no luck. I have gone into the about:config for Thunderbird and added the following lines:
network.protocol-handler.app.http /usr/bin/firefox
network.protocol-handler.app.https /usr/bin/firefox

Apr 23, 2010Clicking on a web link in an application used to open Firefox in the foreground, on top of the calling application in previous versions of Ubuntu (i.e. whatever versions of applications shipped by default).
In Ubuntu 10.04 if I click on a link in an email message then it opens the page within Firefox 3.6.3, but leaves Firefox behind the calling application. I would prefer to have Firefox take the focus and load the web page on top of my email. I have tried the usual fixes (setting browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground and disabling the Ubuntu extensions), but I can not make Firefox take the focus. Funnily enough, most of the threads I see refer to preventing Firefox from opening on top.

May 4, 2010It appears that clicking on a link in Firefox doesn't work until you move the mouse, i.e. if I put the mouse on a link and hold it stationary and click the link, nothing happens, but as soon as I move the mouse, the link then activates. Sometimes, I have to double click the link to get it to work. I've read some posts where people claim that Firefox "freezes" until you move the mouse. In my case, Firefox doesn't "freeze" in the traditional sense. It just that clicking a link doesn't behave properly as it should. I didn't have this problem in 8.04LTS (or previous distributions for that matter) only in 10.04LTS. I'm running the 32-bit version on a Dell Latitude D600 laptop with nvidia-common driver 0.2.23.

Dec 23, 2010When I click on a link in say Evolution, in workspace 1, the page will open in an open Firefox in a different workspace, say 7, but a item will appear on the panel of my current workspace. When I click that item I will be moved to the workspace 7. I find this very confusing.I would prefer the behaviour to be, if there isn't a Firefox in the current workspace to start one and use that rather than reuse one in a different one.

Feb 10, 2010Since I upgraded my browser to Firefox 3.6, I've been experiencing this problem: when I click on a link in an email, Firefox doesn't go to that link. Instead, a new instance of Firefox is started (even if I've already got an instance of Firefox running), and that instance just opens my homepage. Of course I can work around this problem by right-clicking on the link, selecting Copy Link Location, then manually pasting the URL into Firefox. But I'd prefer to use just one click rather than 6.I'm using the latest official Hardy version of Evolution (2.22.3.1), and I've got Firefox 3.6 set as preferred browser (or "default browser" or whatever it's called in Ubuntu).

Jul 24, 2010The latest Firefox update seemed to override my Slickness Black theme settings for the location bar drop down (where you drop down the bar to see past sites visited. The link under the site name used to be a nice grey and now it's standard weblink blue. Not critical of course but I do personally find this annoying. I tried changing the weblink colors in Firefox but that didn't help. Anyhow have any idea how to get my original color back? It's unreadable in that awful blue.

Dec 6, 2010At my Uni, we use a web-based login for our internet connections. Its based off of Cisco, and every Wednesday night every computer on campus must re-enter their credentials to use the network.
Normally on my several computers I simply pull up the Terminal, point links to google.com using

And enter my credentials when Cisco redirects to the login page.
Literally, the process is

Then ENTER to accept the redirect, down arrow to skip over the logo image, USERNAME, ENTER, PASSWORD, ENTER, ENTER.
Naturally, this is EXTREMELY time consuming, as I have about 5 computers located around campus and must physically walk to the machines and login every single week.
My question is, How would I formulate a program that does the following;
1) checks for connectivity (i.e. is able to reach/resolve to the greater part of the internet) and
2) automatically fills in the credentials on the links login page?

but now that fckeditor is available for mediawiki (very beta), it has become much better to just stick with wikitext format. There are only a few conversions to do: tables, links, and bulleted lists. The lists are a fairly simple regex and fckeditor magically reformats the tables, so all I'm left with is the links. But I'm not a regex master. How do I reformat code...
Ubuntu :: Links From Widgets - Task Bar Shows An Instance Of Konqueror And Another Instance Of Firefox
Feb 15, 2010I have KDE 4.4 and Firefox 3.6. Whenever I click a link from a plasmoid widget, it tries to open Konqueror and another instance of Firefox. The page actually loads in the opened Firefox window, but the task bar shows an instance of Konqueror and another instance of Firefox, that keeps loading for a while then close. See image below:
I currently have setup the browser default application as "firefox". If I set this option to use the default application, it opens in Konqueror and I don't see additional windows in the task bar. If I change the option to "firefox %u", then it exhibit the same issue, but the process is much faster, so the loading windows don't stay for long in the task bar. Additionally, it opens the link on a new Firefox window and opens the page twice. Although Konqueror is not loaded, the bouncing icon next to the mouse pointer shows up and stay for a while.

Jan 5, 2010I was wondering if there is a keyboard shortcut for spell check suggestions in firefox. My requirement is actually to work in a website which does not allow right click. When I encounter a red underlined word in the text I typed, I have to copy and paste the same to another tab of firefox [of some other site]to get the alternate suggestions/right spelling. Any tweak to change the button binding from right click to double click or Alt click etc will also do.

Mar 3, 2011Every time I look at firefox (i.e. bring it to the foreground), and when I go back to programs like terminal, GVIM, or pidgin, they won't recognize my keyboard unless I click on some specific thing. For example, I have to click the top of GVIM and pidgin and drag it around a bit, then I can type in those programs. For terminal I have to switch to a different tab and switch back before I can do anything. For some other programs, simply pressing "control-z" to undo will make the program not recognize the keyboard until some action with the mouse is done. This started to happen a few days ago after I tried to install scim to type Chinese (may or may not have any thing to do with it).
