View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been searching around and found lots of details of how to fix a dual boot situation gone wrong but I have not run across a guide or steps on how to install Windows & FC12 the correct way.I have to reinstall my computer any way for other reasons so I am going to reinstall with either XP or Win7 (leaning towards 7) and Fedora 12. I can dedicate a drive to each OS no problem and I can imagine how I would install each on it's own drive, but not quite sure what to use as a boot manager?
View 7 Replies View Relatedwhen i try to install opensuse 11.2 i do all the necessary steps but the installation won't start..i installed and used opensuse before im not clueless...before i reformatted my drive i was using windows 7,ubuntu and opensuse together.harddrive (160 gb) is sufficient and the installation was going smooth..i added kde and xfce from the software selection and enabled mbr and boot from /partition...Actually i tried all the alternatives (disabled mbr and /boot,enabled mbr and disabled /partition) but nothing changes..when the installation starts it says ''preparing the disks''but after waiting for 5 minutes and seeing nothing is changed i reboot and take the disk out of disk tray..where am i doing wrong and what i did wrong this time instead of last time that prevented the installation ...i thought my cd went corrupted so i downloaded and burned a new dvd from iso image.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having some major issues with "Iceweasel" on Debian 6.0.1 (squeeze). I've done some extensive google searching but can't really find anything on this issue.
Basically, Iceweasel simply won't follow some links. It seems to spin for a second and then remain on the same page. I haven't been able to find any correlation between the type/style of links and whether or not the browser will work correctly or not when the link is clicked. Also, sometimes if I have multiple tabs open, I'll open gmail in a new tab and it will do nothing. If I exit the app and restart with one new tab, it will correctly bring up gmail (does this with other sites too gmail is just an example).
I actually use Chrome for most stuff now but need FF/Iceweasel for PHP debugging (a Zend Studio plugin not available in Chrome).
how to get more debug info form Iceweasel
I've thought about just installing Firefox but seems I have to do it manually and I'm not convinced that it would make a difference as supposedly the code is the same (?). I may just try it anyway as I'm out of ideas.
Here's the stats:
peter@sendai[vanilla]$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.32-5-amd64 (Debian 2.6.32-31) (ben@decadent.org.uk) (gcc version 4.3.5 (Debian 4.3.5-4) ) #1 SMP Mon Mar 7 21:35:22 UTC 2011
Iceweasel 3.5.16 (like Firefox 3.5.16)
Until a recent update, I had no trouble figuring out how to set my preference that a window would become active when the mouse entered it. Since then, about a month ago, I have been unable to find a means to do that.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had Ubuntu for awhile, now I installed Fedora12, I'm trying to follow directions to install a program from source code (tar.gz file) I have the February 2010 issue of Linux Format, and am trying to follow it step by step. I copied gnurobbo off their disk to my desk top, which copied it. Then I did the cd command, then I did the ls command and it didn't show me anything but a line saying desktop and a few other things like pictures movies etc. so I did cd gnurobbo-0.64 and it says no such file. I have been trying this for a few times and I think I'm going crazy.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have what I thought would be a simple issue: I have a Linux server and a bunch of people with Macs on a small business network.I'm trying to set it up so that using AFP, people can access the Linux server and drag and drop files to our test web development server. In each person's home directory there's a sym link to the /var/www/html directory, so that they can easily plop their test files there.I've got the hard part taken care of: AFP works, the Linux server appears on the network, and the Mac users can connect and log in.However, my sym link doesn't show up as a directory inside the Mac Finder...it shows up as an application. I don't know if this is something as simple as a permissions problem or whether I need to do more configuring to get AFP to play nice.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install PyPedal but was overwhelmed by the steps. Here is a link to the program:[URL]..The first problem is, on this page [URL].., the package is described as .tar.gz, however when I try to download, the package is a .egg I searched online since I never dealt with a .egg, some suggest to use the unzip command others have used the command without success.
The second problem is, I have to install Python which I have no experience with. This the Python page[URL].all the Linux files seem to be source tarball. What would be the best way to install a source as I have never done this before? The third problem is, which of the third-party extensions used by PyPedal listed in this link I could skip installing [URL].. . All I interested in is getting the numerical result that this program produces. Assume that I have download the PyPedal and Python files to the /home directory.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm about to install Ubuntu Server 10.04 on my home server. I have looked around, a lot, without finding a nice way to record or log all the steps of the installation.
I see two general paths of how my problem might be solved:
Is there any installation log file which I could look in to see which options I choose? It would be best if it included all steps, including partitioning and, in my case, setting up an encrypted volume with a KVM-volume inside it.
Are there any ways to record the installation or take screenshots of it? It's done using the console (with no X window system available). Maybe fbgrab could work, but I do not know how to make it available during the installation.
I could also use a pen and paper. But that is error prone as I do not have the patience to write everything down. It's my last resort though.
I am still booting from my Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, and I want to upgrade to 10.04 Maverick Meerkat without losing any of the files, and work I have done so far. I have discussed this with a friend, and he has informed me that I can do this by going to the upgrade manager in the ADMINISTRATION menu under SYSTEM. He told me all I had to do was click install, and it would install all of the packages for me, and automatically upgrade everything to 10.10 without any loss of files and information. Is this true? Also currently I am dual booting from Windows XP, and Lucid Lynx. I have a 32 bit processor, Intel Dual Core.
