Ubuntu :: Locked Toolbar - New Position For The Toolbar That Sits At The Top Of The Screen
Mar 30, 2011I have been working for the last three months with Ubuntu 10 on a destop. Doing just fine and loving it. I decided to try a new position for the toolbar that sits at the top of the screen. I did a right click and moved it to the right side of the scree, didn't like the look of that. Right click on the bar and moved it to the left, didn't like that either, so moved it to the bottom. having done all that I thought I could put it back at the top but alas, I can not right click on the Toolbar.
It seems as though the two bars are fighting each other at the bottom of the screen.I would like to go back to the default position at the top of the screen. I do have a terminal window available to me on the desktop so if I could find out the command line to type in, I should be able to reset my tool bar. Being new I have no idea what this command would be.
Fedora :: GNOME Clock Applet Can't Get Weather (F14)?
Mar 7, 2011It simply doesn't work. No matter what city I put there (I even tried putting American cities) the applet just widens a bit to the left and shows nothing. Doing some searches, I learned the protocol it uses is called METAR, the data is provided by airports, and the list of locations is at:[URL]..
But this file doesn't exist! What exists is:[URL].. And that one only has American cities. But, as I said, not even American cities work. Where should I start looking?

Jun 29, 2009Why my weather and temperature quit displaying after I upgraded to FC11 from FC10. I used to see sun or clouds and the current temp. Now just the date and time. I have the location set, and even tried removing the clock and re-added to the taskbar.. still no luck. I know it worked with fc9 and fc10. Not sure if it worked in fc11 and then stopped working, or never worked at all.

Jul 5, 2010After upgrading to F13 certainly - but from time to time my clock in Gnome will throw a wobbly. Not even consistent wobblies, sometimes the weather is missing completely, as now, sometimes only a slice of the weather icon appears, and the time/date display can be garbled. It seems to happen after a change such as booting up or a weather update, I've tried removing the applet from the panel and re-installing it, and even removing and re-installing the top panel. I'm reluctant to try removing and reinstalling Gnome-applets as that can remove a whole slew of dependencies and possibly bork an otherwise reliable install, after all I can live with it.

Feb 3, 2011I'm a recent convert from Ubuntu (my company uses Juniper VPN and FedoraRHEL is the only certified OS for the client) and I'm having an issue that I can't seem to find the answer to.I installed Fedora 14 and have dual monitors running on a GeForce 8500 GT with one DVI and one VGA connection. VGA is the left monitor, DVI is on the right. After install, Fedora was defaulting to the DVI (right) monitor as the primary, so I used the Monitors utility to rearrange them so they went left to right. I even selected the left (VGA) monitor as the primary. I was hoping that the top and bottom bars would follow.My issue is that both the launch bar on the top, and the task bar on the bottom are still on the right-hand screen, and I can't for the life of me figure out how in the heck to get them both over to the left-hand screen. Am I missing something horribly obvious?

Nov 24, 2009So a few minutes ago, i was messing around with the system, installing some programs, doing updates, etc... Did a reboot because i was messing around with stuff and just wanted to see something, and when i logged back in, the file/edit toolbar doesnt show in any program EXCEPT for firefox. What the hell could this be? I tried everything already.

Apr 10, 2010I have installed Open Office 3.2 on My SYSTEM. However, I think its look is some ugly, specialy its scrollbars, combo boxes to select fonst and size.
The previous version (3.1) looks much better. I think that version (3.1) is integrated with the system theme.
In the 3.2 version, the toolbar look is great... the problem starts in the font toolbar, continues with its scrollbars (seems ms w 95)
Is there any installation process to integrate OoO 3.2 perfectly with Fedora 12? (like OoO 3.2 and Ubuntu 9.10)

Nov 19, 2010I switched to fedora to learn. I also purchased several vps (virtual private servers) so I could hack away and not destroy my pc. well I would like to do the following...let me call one server A and the other server B
Put to terminals on my top panel. when I click on A I will automatically via ssh be taken to the server A online and when I click on B (the second xterm icon) I would like to be taken to vps B. Ideally I would also like to bypass my password and just go in a root to both as again these are just things I got to learn on.. I don't know where to start but it sure seems like something that would be possible. Of course I don't care if I am clicking on the terminal icon or a program that just launches the appropriate terminal..
Fedora :: Claws Mail 3.7.3 - Missing Toolbar After FC Upgrade
Dec 8, 2009I just upgraded from fc11 to fc12 with a great deal of trouble...finally am partially functional. The problem really bugging me is the missing claws-mail toolbar that shows "tools", addressbook, encrypt/decrypt, and especially the ability to load plugins, and set all preferences. I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling but nothing provides the toolbar I need. Yum does not provide anything new either. As most of my important passwords are encrypted, and I need the claws pgp plugin to be loaded.

I gave permission to weather.sh file, on my desktop running conky in the weather section it says Invalid Partner Code. I tried even putting USCA1197 in the .conkyrc file instead of my zip code and still same problem. Do I have to give weather folder permission as well?

This (correctly) display a message to the effect "There are no weather alerts for ...." when there are no weather alerts. However, when there is an alert, it simply displays a message like "Short-term forecast for ..." with no further information.

Mar 18, 2010I am using pogodynka.sh to try and get conky to show the temperature and incorporate and icon from weather.ttf to show a graphical depiction... i.e. a sun for sunny, a cloud with a lightening bolt for thunder...
I have managed to get it working in the past (about a year ago) Now I am unable to get the icon to show, the font is installed and being used by other parts of the same instance of conky. However the pogodynka DOES state the temperature. I just have no graphical representation of that, thus it creates a big blank spot in the middle of my conky....

Ubuntu :: Set Weather Map As Desktop Background (gnome)?
Jul 7, 2010I wanted to use a regularly- and frequently-updating weather map as my desktop background (extreme desktop tweakers can stop reading here: yes, I'm committing the unspeakable act of using a 640x480 image as the background for my 1280x1024 desktop. What can I say? I'm a pragmatic kinda guy . . .). I came up with the following solution for doing this, but wanted to post here to see if someone else might suggest something more elegant and/or superior.
First, I created an extremely simplistic bash script that downloads the weather map image (640x480 a gif) and writes it to a file in my home directory called wmap-bkgrnd.gif. It's only two lines, as follows code...
So now cron downloads the image every 10 minutes and writes it to the wmap-bkgrnd.gif file in my user's home directory. Finally, I right-clicked on the gnome desktop and selected "change background," selecting that image as my desktop background.
It works, and gives the desired effect. I now have a weather map that updates every 10 minutes as my desktop background.
So, my questions. Is there a simpler/better way to accomplish this task? I have to say I have nothing against higher-resolution images and would use one if I could find something suitable. But so far, in the way of frequently-updated maps, I've only been able to find this low-resolution one.

Jul 11, 2010I have found a post (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1331653) that tells me how to add a location to the Locations.xml file for the Gnome Weather Applet (NOT THE CLOCK/WEATHER APPLET). However when I try to open the file (the file is 916 kb) in bluefish it just hangs and never opens. I have tried doing something with both vim and nano but my expertise in using either of those is non-existent. If someone can help me understand how to open a file in vim or nano so I can edit this file (or ANY way to edit this file)
