Just installed FC10. I edited the /etc/inittab to start FC at the command prompt. However, how can I change the boot so that I can see the daemons loading not just that graphical bar at the bottom of the screen.

Upon boot, "Checking System Files":
Starting Firestarter firewall .... fails.
Starting samba daemons _ .... Just hangs there forever
Is there a way to get back into my system so that I can uninstall winbind, firestarter, or samba if need be?
I have installed Koha on Debian Lenny. It does work well, but I have to manually start the koha-zebra-ctl.sh by entering /usr/share/koha/bin/koha-zebra-ctl.sh start The is, however, that this starts at boot from /etc/init.d/koha-zebra-daemon. Like /etc/init.d/koha-zebra-daemon start (does not work now) In the koha-zebra-daemon file I have:

I have tried checking whether the symbolic link exists with readlink, but this never seems to return anything anywhere.
I have a little problem here. I tried to copy include directory from g++ to a place where it suppose to be and when i couldn't because of the rights i wrote something like this in the bash:

I installed Fed 11 after Win 7 was already installed---on my Lenovo T-60 laptop. So I rebooted after a couple of software updates with no option to boot to Win 7. my laptop boots straight to Fed 11. So I was checking grub.conf and it is "x'ed" out. so is menu.lst. I click on them and the message says "grub.conf" is not available. Whats up with that? or is there another place to get to the MBR to give me an option between the 2?

1- It told me that there is no sufficient RAM so it logged in text mode. But I have 256 mb RAM and the lowest is 192mb for the graphical mode.
2- The RAM specified in the manual of fedora the DDR or the VGA.
3- After the installation it ask me to log in as shown localhost login:
What should I type in this? Whatever I wrote it ask me to write password. But if I try to write any thing in it, it didn't respond or write any thing.
4- How could I login the graphical mode after installation in text mode.
5- I have encountered another problem when boot the set it load fedora by default and didn't ask me to choose between fedora and previously installed windows xp.
Yesterday, i just got my Fedora live DVD. When i tried to boot it from my CD/DVD ROM drive, it seems to hang when it's just about to finish loading. From one of the prevous threads, one of the members said that i had to have 2 partitions on my HD. Currently, i already have 2 partitions. Can someone give me advice on what to do??

When the kernal was updated, the bootsplash was replaced with scrolling text (I have done several kernal updates, it was after the first one the scrolling text happened). Is there a way of reverting back to the bootsplash or is it more trouble than what its worth?

I got a new laptop, this is the one: [URL] and decided that I wanted to go with Fedora instead of Ubuntu with this computer. The laptop runs win 7 64 bit so I'm trying to go with Fedora 64 but it will not boot. I first installed Fedora 12 64 bit from the DVD install and it would go to grub fine but when I boot the fedora os It just stops in the middle of the boot script. When it stops, the last 4 lines are:

I hadn't messed with it for a few weeks and yesterday I saw that 13 was out, so I downloaded and burnt the Fedora 13 64 bit CD. I popped it in, booted the computer and it did the same crap. It didn't stop at the same line but it was around a line with:

So I guess the kernel isn't loading properly or something. Do ya'll think I would be better off using the 32 bit?
there is a way to change the OS boot screen from the blue loading bar at the bottom to something more fancy. For example if you take a look at Oracle Enterprise Linux 6 they have a loading screen that makes an "O" on start up. Note: I am not talking about GRUB, I already know how to change the grub boot screen. If so can someone provide the steps needed to modify the OS loading screen.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got the grub loader to work finally. The problem is it does not always display at initial boot or a restart. I have seen the selection menu but it doesn't always appear. I have it set to point to windows so that my wife can hit enter when she gets a blank screen.

I just installed the latest updates for Fedora 14, and a restart was necessary so I did. Then, it didn't reboot! It hung when the cursive Fedora "f" was there for about 15 minutes. I had guessed that maybe it was doing an automatic fsck disk check, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, I couldn't change to tty2 etc while this was happening and for all I knew, the system was frozen. Is there a way to see the load progress (the text) while booting?
FYI, after 1 extremely slow but eventually successful boot, everything is back to normal with rapid boot times.

I've been upgrading all our servers from FC8 to FC10. One thing that is no longer there are the start up script messages, being replaced by the white and blue line at the bottom.
I like seeing the bootup messages when I reboot (rarely) to make sure nothing went wrong and not having to go into boot.log to check it.

I created a Fedora 13 x86 live image on USB using [URL] I've set it to boot using the USB and when it does I see the 10 sec countdown (or the options if I press a key), I tried all the options to boot the image but the screen just turns black for a few seconds and then the the monitor goes into "power saving mode" and nothing happens (I waited like 10 minutes). What's going on? I am trying to install fedora into an empty (secondary) HD, in the main HD I only have a win XP, and I don't want to burn a cd/dvd that's why I am trying to boot the USB.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI know this is an Ubuntu Forum (duh) but I'm having trouble booting Fedora. I have Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.04 loaded on to my HDD and GRUB boots both of them just fine. I installed Fedora 15 on dev/sda7 (a clean partition) and I'm using the same swap for both Linux distros. I am not that new to Linux but I still need fairly detailed instructions.
My problem: Fedora does not show in the boot menu and I'm not sure how to get it there.
I've heard about something going funny when the kernel updates and something about chainloading but I'm no expert on either.
I have a PC with 2 Hard drives one of which has Windows XP Pro installed. I installed Red Hat Linux 7.2 on the other drive choosing LILO as the boot loader. When I reboot LILO only displays Red Hat 7.2 When I boot Red Hat and go into KDE boot settings I can see that hda has Windows NT. hdb has Red Hat 7.2. I then tried to make the Windows NT partition the default entry. When I try to confirm this an error displays warning me of danger if I proceed. Is there any way to make LILO recognize Windows (preferably without having to reinstall Red Hat), perhaps by installing another bootloader application!

Also I did it before several times from then when I try to boot it e.g. from an "Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz" PC the time between loading INITRD and starting boot sequence messages lasts nearly 30 minutes!(i didn't actually measure it but it take a long time in the same order). after starting boot sequence which is showed on monitor everything looks normal. e.g copy of files would be done by speeds between 2MB/s to 30 MB/s depending on the targets.I used to use the external hard derive to boot from different laptops and PC's from start but I didn't have such a problem anytime.
