Fedora :: "Automatic Bug Reporting Tool" Reported Kernel / Panel Crash

Jul 4, 2011

I have installed fedora13 OS on it recently, earlier it has both windows and linux but now only fedora13. My laptop's harddisk has probably some bad sectors and a software package "Automatic Bug Reporting Tool" has reported kernel crash,gnome-panel crash. I reported them upto some extent but in totality all I can't report. How to deal with it, why is it happening, and will it be harmful for any part like CPU,RAM,HardDisk of my laptop?

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Desktop Amd64 Crash Needs To Be Reported

Oct 19, 2010

On my dell inspiron laptop if I use a live cd to boot into Ubuntu and then reboot into Windows the computer freezes up within 5 minutes. I uninstalled everything that I had put onto my computer since I purchased it (less than a week ago) in desperate measures because I was ready to take it back and play stupid to get a replacement. Once I went on an uninstalling frenzy my problem was fixed, but I had to know if it was from a program I installed or the live cd I used so I tried it again and sure enough, within 5 minutes my computer was unresponsive. I was using usb flash drives for my live cd and this was on a different flash drive than the first. Just thought it should be known, and I'm not doing it again once I fix my less than a week old computer from this again.

Debian :: Bug-reporting Tool In Gnome To No Avail So Far?

Jan 8, 2011

I've tried the bug-reporting tool in Gnome to no avail so far. This isn't a huge problem, more a cosmetic one. I'm running Squeeze beta 2, which was a fresh install. I have a Maxtor USB portable HD, which I use to back up personal data. It auto-mounts fine, as soon as I connect it. I have full read-write access from my regular user account; but when I'm finished accessing it, when I right-click and select "Safely remove" I get an error every time. The error has to do with "unable to unmount . . . ." and I wish I had the exact text but I don't. Anyway, when I open a terminal and check the mount point, the drive *has* unmounted, so I'm not worried about data loss. But why the error? BTW, the drive is formatted as one partition with NTFS.

I'm not looking for an answer so much as I am just trying to see that someone involved in trying to get Squeeze ready to release hears about this. It's no big deal, but it looks bad.

Fedora :: F15 Gnome Tweak Tool Causing System To Crash

Jun 23, 2011

I've just installed F15 over the weekend, and since then I've been having stability issues - primarily it seems to be related to gnome 3 (I've used fedora since its early days, and have never had such stability issues in the prior versions). Basically, when I use gnome-tweak-tool to make a modification, the system crashes; and I have to completely shut off the unit (unplug it) for it to even boot up properly. Today, I tried to change one of the options from its default, and now the very top (black bar) won't show.

I'm in the "File Manager" mode and can see the "Computer", "home" and "Trash" icons. I can move them about; and click on any of them to open. But once they're open nothing else works (clicking on any of the directories, etc, has no effect). I can ctl-alt-F2; but that's the extent. I deleted the .gconf and .gconfd directories (suggested in a different thread on a similar issue), but that didn't change anything. How do I bring back the default gnome 3 bar at the top?

I rebuilt my user account from scratch (that was the fastest approach for me). Nevertheless, gnome-tweak-tool does crash (for example, each time I turn on "File Manager"). This is clearly a bug. I'm using nvidia GTX 480; the problem might somehow be related to the card/driver. I definitely spoke too early I logged out of my account; logged back in, and the top bar is gone again and I'm left with having to deal with this again.

Ubuntu :: Gnomenu Reporting OAFIID:GNOME_GnoMenu When Adding To Panel?

I've done a quick google search and didn't really find anything that I understood. I DID find a reference to the bug on launchpad, but supposedly it was fixed as of version 2.1 and I'm running the latest version I could find which I believe is 2.9 so I'm a bit lost.

Any help would be great, if you need more info, just tell me how to get it and i shall do so as I really am missing gnomenu. If it makes any difference, I'm on ubuntu 11.04 64bit running in classic mode

OpenSUSE Install :: Wrong Linux Kernel Version Reported By Uname -a

Jan 6, 2010

I am an openSuSE user for many years. My current installation is openSuSE 11.2. However, my first was SuSE 6.4 and I have been _constantly_ upgrading since then until reaching the current openSuSE 11.2. The technical issue I have been facing lately is with the kernel version of my current system: although it should be 2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop, as this is the one I have chosen via the online update mechanism and the yast2 system boot-loader procedure, grub shows it as preselected, the boot procedure in the end greets me mentioning this very kernel version, _but_ when I issue the command: uname -a in a command prompt, I am informed of using linux kernel version: 2.6.18.2-34-default #1 SMP PREEMPT

I am really quite puzzled, since I _cannot_ find any such vmlinuz file under /boot/ ! Could it be that my system properly runs with the expected kernel version, but uname mistakes it with a different one? Is there a way to determine the actual version of the linux kernel that my system currently runs with? If it's a problem with uname, have you got any suggestions that could potentially shed some light towards the origin/cause of the reported issue?

Fedora :: Kernel Module Crash With Sound?

Dec 21, 2009

Sound disappears as soon as I try to use an application e.g. News Video Fox, CNN, BBC or playing a video disk or cd disk, and a kernel module crash is reported (listed below from logs) After this happens no sound, and the desktop freezes (X11 only Linux is fine). Restarting X obviously do not solve the problem.

It seems that Fedora 12 has sever problems with Intel Sound cards.

I guess it is not really a Kernel developers problem but more the authors for the sound module causing the crash. I already reported it through the popup to "kernel-oops" by clicking on the "black screen" popup reporting the crash on FC12.

Here follows the logs containing the crash info.

I would have thought that removing a given kernel package would trigger the removal of the older kernel headers. Can someone confirm that is, or is not, the behavior? For example, the linux kernels I have installed are:

So, when I get around to removing the linux-image-2.6.25-2-amd64 package like this:

I would expect apt-get to automatically also remove linux-headers-2.6.25-2-amd64 and linux-headers-2.6.25-2-common. Is that what will happen, or do I need to explicitly state all three packages on the apt-get remove command?

Fedora :: F14 Kernel Crash And Hard Freeze - Hang

Jun 9, 2011

I have a fresh installation from the demo ISO image of F14 running on an Acer TravelMate 4200. The system is a Dual Boot with win Vista. Windows Vista runs without any problems but when using F14 a kernal crash constantly occurs and it then hard freezes or hangs and the machine needs to be cold booted. The F14 system is completely up to date running kernel version 2.6.35.13-91.fc14.i686. The following error below is from the automatic bug reporting tool and I have reported this using the tool:

Fedora :: Graphics Chipset Stopped Working - Causes Kernel Crash ?

Jul 13, 2009

My graphics card (00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03))

used to work fine, but yesterday I opened glest and it crashed my computer within 5 seconds. No picture was ever displayed. I downloaded another 3D game called Nogravity (Glest being my only one, I wanted something else to test) and it crashed after a few minutes of play and I had to restart. After all the crashes kerneloops came up with a report.

Here is the most recent one:

Code:

I did recently notice that I have no direct 3D rendering, it comes up with something like: No (LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT SET)

I do not know whether I used to have it, but I do know that 3D apps used to run perfectly well. (In fact the stability of 3D apps was what converted me from Ubuntu where they crashed every 5 minutes)

I ran glxgears for 5 seconds and it gave me 420 FPS.

Programming :: Netlink Sockets In Kernel And Ethernet Driver - Kernel Crash

Aug 31, 2010

I write the network driver. Transmission of packets in user space I do through netlink socket`s. In user space there is a handling of packets and their transmission on other device (however, it isn't important).

Problem in that any time, packets through the driver in system, and is reverse, are transferred normally. But then there comes the moment when the kernel crash. If to look in syslog it seems to me that comes deadlock. Also I think that it is related with netlink socket`s.

I can't find the information on that anywhere how correctly to use netlink socket`s in kernel space. Can at you will any a reason into the account of synchronization of sockets and the driver in kernel space?

I can give the driver code if it is necessary.
