Fedora :: After Update From 10 To 11 - Ntp And Http Services Fail

Jun 15, 2009

I just upgraded from Fedora 10 to 11 using yum preupgrade method. After what seems to be a successful upgrade, I get 2 boot errors warning icon at the log-in screen - one for ntpd and the other for httpd, both fail.

When trying to start http by command line the following error line appears:
Starting httpd: httpd: Syntax error on line 196 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf: Cannot load /etc/httpd/modules/mod_file_cache.so into server: /etc/httpd/modules/mod_file_cache.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[FAILED]

In "Services" it shows httpd as being enabled, but not started. When I try to start it, it just gets stuck on refreshing.

Fedora X86/64bit :: Services Fail To Start Continuously

Aug 22, 2010

I have installed fedora 13 , 86_64. and was working fine until now. The problem was that JEXEC service Froze while booting. So I removed it /etc/init.d. The next time when I booted ATD service Froze, so I removed it by the same way. Next it was the turn of CROND followed by KSM , KSMTUNED. Then came ABRT-DAEMON which I had to type a #yum erase abrt* command. Finally it came to the turn of SM-CLIENT. I don't know where it is or what it is. Didn't find quality posts on the internet. What the heck should I do and I dont want to do a reinstall.

OpenSUSE Install :: Services Fail At Boot - Save To Turn Them Off?

Jun 2, 2011

during boot-up on my desktop, running openSUSE 11.4 with KDE 4.6.3, there are sometimes (not always) some failed services. Most of the time it is postfix and some other service. Today it is just mcelog. So when I switch to the first terminal by strg+alt+F1, I see that mcelog has failed. The system is running anyway, so I wonder if it is safe to turn them off? I would turn off postfix and mcelog. Do I harm the system with that? Would it boot again, after I have turned them off? Or is it recommended to let them stay as they are?As far as I understood, postfix is just a mailserver, which would be used, if I would run a mailserver on my own. But I don´t. I just read mails, via IMAP... But mcelog? Whats that?

CentOS 5 :: Solution Cluster Fail To Start Virtual Services After Upgrade To 5.5?

May 16, 2010

After upgrading Centos 5.4 cluster nodes to 5.5 all virtual services failed to start. All virtual services are marked as 'failed'. The reason: new /usr/share/cluster/vm.sh requires 'which', but this is not reflected in rgmanager-2.0.52-6.el5.centos.

Solution: run 'yum -y install which' on all nodes, and reboot cluster. Hope that will save somebody hours of downtime.

Fedora :: Software Update Fail Transaction Error

Ok. Using Release 12 Constantine Gnome 2.28. Whenever I try to update my computer via de Software Update Manager that pops up every now and then I get an error and the Software Update fails.

The error says its a repository not found, but I am very new at this and have no clue as to where to fix this. Alongside of this, is the fact that since one of the updates is failing, the rest don't install either. So the updates keep on piling.

This is the error shown in the More Details window:

Fedora :: OpenJDK & Plugin Update - Ameritrade Fail?

Jun 11, 2010

Last nights updates of: java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0-39.b18.fc13.i686 and java-1.6.0-openjdk-plugin-1.6.0.0-39.b18.fc13.i686 no longer work with Ameritrade Command Center. I was really happy when OpenJDK got to a point where I didn't have to install Sun's Java, and it has been working great for quite a few months now, but today, when trying to bring up Command Center, it's telling me that there is a missing plugin, then points me to the Sun Java site. This is when using Firefox or Chrome. It may just be the plugin or the way it's positioned, so, hopefully this weekend I'll get time to investigate a little further. If not I'll downgrade to the previous version. <sigh> I really didn't want to install Sun's Java on my F13 boxes.

Ubuntu Installation :: Fetching From Update Servers Fail When When Using Update Managers?

Aug 21, 2010

I have Ubuntu Karmic 64-bit installed. Update manager tells me there are updates available, but when i try to install them, downloading the updates fail and throws this error:

Code:

Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/e/eglibc/libc6-i386_2.10.1-0ubuntu16_amd64.deb

Consequently, a similar error occurs when I try installing Sun Java 6 Runtime.

Code:

Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/multiverse/s/sun-java6/sun-java6-jre_6-15-1_all.deb Connection failed [IP: 91.189.88.31 80]

Ubuntu Restricted Extras stalls when it's time to download the Java package I tried synaptic, update manager, aptitude, apt-get, and they all throw similar errors. Then I also tried connecting to different servers, to no avail. So to check if it's my connection to the net that has problems somehow, I tried downloading the file directly through my web browser, and it works. (But it's not recommended, and it won't let me!, install the updates manually, right?) I tried searching for the errors on the net and in the forums, and they're all somehow related to proxy servers. I then checked if I'm using some inappropriate proxy settings, and everywhere it's all set up to connect to the net directly, which is, well, my setup.

Take note though, that I am able to install other softwares normally, i.e, using synaptic, apt-get etc. The ones I tried include Pidgin and Mplayer. It's just these updates and Java:

Code:

jeanne@jeanne-desktop:~$ sudo sudo aptitude upgrade

Ubuntu Installation :: Update Manager Stopped Worked (http Error 127)?

Jan 12, 2011

I have 10.04 installed and Update Manager has worked fine for months, until about 2 weeks ago. When I ask Update Manager to update its indexes, I get this error message returned almost immediately

"Method http has died unexpectedly!

Method http has died unexpectedly!
Sub-process http returned an error code (127)

The internet connection is working fine on this machine. I have another 10.04 machine sitting right next to the problem computer, and Update Manager works fine on that machine. I verified that all settings are the same between the 2 machines in these areas

1. All Update Manager SETTINGS (including SOFTWARE SOURCES)

2. System -> Preferences -> NETWORK PROXY (which is a Direct Internet Connection)

3. System -> Preferences -> NETWORK CONNECTION

It appears to me that the connection to Ubuntu repositories is failing but I can't find anything different between the 2 machines.

Ubuntu :: Administration Functions And Automatic Update Fail To Work?

When I click on Update Manager my computer freezes. If I try to update through the red Updates Available arrow at the top of my screen my computer freezes. I can update through terminal but the red arrow never goes away. I also have 17 updates that won't update. I have tried them one at a time through terminal but they just freeze the computer. The only way to unfreeze it is to shut the computer down.
