Fedora Networking :: Cant Find Services Xinetd & Others?
Aug 15, 2009i am working with fedora 9 i need to turn on services such as telnet,ftp,dns,nfs,dhcp etc. but the problem is i dont even find xinetd based service when i am giving this command

Jul 18, 2010When I shut down or restart my computer, I can see there are some errors related to failed services (about xinetd, I think, which is NOT enable). But it scroll too fast and I cannot note them. Sorry for the "newbie" question: how can I see the log of what happened ? (dmesg only gives log about kernel, if I'm not wrong.)

Aug 9, 2011When ever I have an issue with our LDAP server (which I was able to fix) we see the following errors in /var/log/messages and it causes problems with our services running on that box, e.g. httpd, nrpe, xinetd, etc. Aug 8 17:44:42 hostname httpd: nss_ldap: failed to bind to LDAP server ldap://serveraddress/: Can't contact LDAP server Aug 8 17:44:42 hostname httpd: nss_ldap: reconnecting to LDAP server (sleeping 64 seconds)... I am only wanting to authenticate SSH and Sudo and not services like httpd, nrpe, xinetd etc.

Dec 7, 2010So I want to get mount/umount option under right click services menu. I went to Dolphin -> Settings -> Configure Dolphin -> Services -> Download New Services and from there I installed KDE CDEmu Emulator and MountISO. But neither of them is showing up in actual context menu. Neither in Dolphin -> Settings -> Configure Dolphin -> Services for that matter. I tried to install them as normal user and as a root. I went to have a peak in /usr/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/ but they aren't there as well... It's just me or lots of things seems to be not quite working in 11.3?

To check for the different types of services/ports, we just replace the [service] in check_[service] with the name of the port? I only know of check_http, check_ssh, check_ftp etc. Some ports like Finger, snmp etc, all these we also write it as 'check_finger', 'check_snmp'? 2) And, if that is the case, do we have to install additional plugins to monitor the ports defined earlier? 3) Lastly, if i want to monitor finger,snmp in windows server, would i need to download any software?

Mar 10, 2010We have our web site hosted by Go daddy and they provide us with the mail service as well. But there are a lot of constraints with the mail service with regards to the number of mail boxes, size per box, relays per user and so on.To avoid this, we are looking at other options. One is to have our own mail server but it will require a lot of infrastructure and expertise. But Amazon web services looks nice. They have infrastructure needed and all. One thing on my mind is the reverse look up of the mail servers. They wont be associated with the domain as both would be on different hostings. I am open to both windows exchange server as well as Linux server. Has anyone done this before or has any idea about it? I have gone through some of the threads in their forum and there are a lot of mixed views about it.And main concern everyone views is the reverse lookup. This could lead to all the mails sent from my server tagged as spam at the recipient end.I could not make out in which forum to write and hence in newbie. If this is enough about networking or server please move it.

Apr 16, 2010I would like to create an alternative booting possibility in my GRUB menu that does not start some services (listed by chkconfig) like cups.
I would use this boot during travel where I surely does not need these services and shorter bootup time is preferable. Permanent removal of such services is not an option because I could not miss them during normal daily work.
I use Mandriva 2010 with the latest updates.

Is there any option for me to change the threshold time for the services given? For e.g. I had a service of current_load which comes as a default plugin while installing nagios itself. What should I do to change the threshold value of the current_load so that I might get the warning or error alert some time earlier as it was now.

May 24, 2010I installed a few services using the dolphin tools menu (configure dolphin) but they're not showing up on right-click, how can I enable them.
Here's my setup:
-Ubuntu Lucid GNOME
-Dolphin 1.4
-All dolphin dependencies and issues resolved (I think) by using:

My second problem is file search, the feature that comes with nautilus is way too slow, and catfish is lacking so many feature, I'm kind of a sucker for eye-candy, and when I tried beagle it stuck out like a sore thumb! Is there a good looking, well-developed file-search feature for the gnome desktop?
My third question is regarding the update in Lucid, it keeps telling me the following when I run: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

My last issue is with nautilus, I have many large directories with tons of subdirectories (especially my music folders), and nautilus can only view them as icons, list or columns, is there a way to install a script or plugin for nautilus to make it faster and/or include some form of miller columns like in dolphin (I believe it's the best way to view large folders).
