Debian :: Low Power Server / Use USD Card As Write Buffer So HD Idles

Dec 18, 2015

I have made a server using a bananapi. The bananapi is an embedded linux mini PC, using an allwinner A20 SOC. This server boots and runs from an uSD card, and logs data from sensors to an attached 1TB hard drive. This works OK, but the hard drive consumes a lot of power (about 2.5W), this essentially doubles the amount of power needed. I am planning to power this setup from an accu, therefore I would like to keep power consumption as low as possible.

I am planning to let the application log to the uSD card. After a while the uSD card is almost full. At that moment I can wake up the HD, move the data to the HD, delete the data from the uSD card, set the HD to sleep, and wait until the uSD card is full again. Is there some clever way to do this? I can do this with basic shell scripting, but then I get all kind of issues like open files that are copied to the HD while they are still being filled by the logging application. This would mean they end up on the HD incomplete.

Debian :: Apache2 Timeout - Server Idles On About 80~ish Tasks Constantly

Apr 12, 2010

Im running a Debian 2.6.26-2-amd64 webserver with apache2 only on a Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz that has 2GB of ram in it. I installed htop a few days ago and have been looking on it for a few days now. the server idles on about 80~ish tasks constantly with arond 20 apache tasks/connections to it all the time and the cpu usages of the 2 cores at about 1% each. but asoon as more apache2 connections/task get started and the servers tasks reach 120-140~ Apache2 timesout if you try to go to the webpage i host on the server. when it's back down to around 80~tasks you can reach the webpage once again. why is this ? what's causing this to happen ?

Debian Hardware :: Power Mac G5 And Radeon X1900 Video Card

Aug 27, 2011

I'm attempting to get Debian (Squeeze, latest net-install CD) working on a Power Mac G5 Quad with a Radeon X1900 Mac edition video card (PCI-Express.) The installer acted a bit weird right from the start, telling me that the step "Install the system" failed (with nothing in the way of useful error information,) but I got the base system installed at least. It booted fine to framebuffer console, so I set about installing GNOME on it. apt finished with nary a complaint, but when I rebooted, I found that when it's ready to launch into X, it chokes up and just sits there with a blank screen and a cursor. (Weirdly, though, the screen itself flickers on and off at a high rate, faster than the actual cursor blink.)

Framebuffer console still works, at least, so I was able to boot into single-user mode and do some investigating in my own limited capacity for this stuff (by which I mean "Google error messages and see what specifics are requested.") lspci -k shows the video card properly with the manufacturer and product name, so it is recognizing it, at least. When I try Xorg -configure, though (Xorg 1.7.7, it says,) it aborts with a "No DRICreatePCIBusID symbol" message. Checking dmesg gives me a "process Xorg mapped non-existing PCI legacy memory" message, followed by an "invalid ROM contents" message underneath.

I'm not sure what all to make of this. I've found a thread about problems getting the same basic setup (G5 Quad, X1900, Debian) to work, but it's a couple years old and the symptoms are different. There's some discussion there about the radeon/radeonhd driver looking for Atom BIOS information on non-Atom BIOS cards, which would explain the "invalid ROM contents" message, but on the other hand, if lspci recognizes the card properly, would that be the problem? I don't know. Obviously it's playing nicely enough to run framebuffer console output properly, but beyond that I have no idea. I'd really like to get this working - it'd really improve things over the GeForce 6600 it came with...

Seems they will wait forever to get a part table.

I use Squeeze with Xfce. My problem is that recently (after the xfce updates) the xfce power manager doesnt react to the power button - it is set to suspend. I dont have gnome-power manager or anything like it running.
If i reboot the computer, the power button will work but if i suspend and resume, it doesnt work again.
The computer is built on an Asus M3N78-VM mobo (2GB RAM/Athlon3200+ single core).

acpi_listen detects the button press.

Any thoughts?

Server :: Read And Write File Sharing From Debian 5.04 To Palm Webos 1.4.5

I was wondering if there was anything I could use to allow the same read and write acces that is on my pxe machines on my new palm pre plus. That would save me the hassle of syncing all my documents and movies etc to my phone every day or so.

So basically what I am asking is if I can use the current 5tb nfs raid and mount it some way to a remote ip that I can access fully on my phone without the need for a flash plugin. Btw the phone is homebrew app ready.

Debian Multimedia :: Nvidia: Failed To Allocate Primary Buffer

May 21, 2010

I recently did a fresh install of squeeze. I have the stock 32 kernel along with the 34 from experimental (it is listed as stable by kernel.org). I installed version 195.36.24 of the Nvidia driver using the Nvidia installer, and after starting X the system became unresponsive.

grep '^(E' /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(EE) May 21 11:28:50 NVIDIA(0): Failed to allocate primary buffer: out of memory.
(EE) NVIDIA(0):  *** Aborting ***

I find this strange considering that I have used this driver with no problem on a 33 kernel and the same video card:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation G72M [Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300] [10de:01d7] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device [1043:1212]
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16

[code]....

I believe it has 256MB of video memory, and I have 1GB of system memory. Is this just a problem with the 34 kernel?

General :: Cannot Write To SD Card Anymore

Dec 24, 2008

I am using OpenSuSE 11.0
KDE 3.5.9
Konqueror

I was able to copy 227 images to a brand new 2GB memory card and I am only using 8% of the card and now I can't write to it anymore?

Code:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
df -h returns this : /dev/sdd1
1.9G 136M 1.8G 8% /media/disk-2

This isn't the first time this has happened either. Just the last couple times I didn't really care enough to pursue it. But now I am trying to load a card for my daughters digital photo frame and I can't because now all of a sudden I can no longer write to the drive? The exact error message I get is: "Could not write to /media/disk/image.jpg" and when I try to create a new folder, I get a disk full error message? How in the heck is this possible when I am only using 136MB of 2GB of capacity?

General :: Write To SD Card Fails - No Error

Feb 17, 2010

I am using Sandisk 2GB micro SD card on ARM processor EP9307A. The card is detected, mounted.
I can read data from the SD card. But cannot write to it. There is no error when I attempt to write to the Card. It appears as if its working fine. But after umount and re-mount, the data written is gone.

Here is the log when the SD card is detected:
# insmod drv
card size = 1977614336, sector size = 31, wp_grp_size = 127, wp_grp_enable = y
S:00001000 M:fffff000

What is the significance of Write Group Protect Enable (wp_grp_enable=y). Is it the case that the SD card is write protected.

Using CMD9 : SEND_CSD , I can read the Card Specific Data (CSD).
I have tried CMD27 : PROGRAM_CSD , to CLEAR wr_grp_enable : No effect seen.
I have tried CMD29 : CLEAR_WRITE_PROT ,: No effect seen.

Where is the issue,
1. I could not send commands properly.
2. Card cannot be set free from WRITE_PROTECT.
3. Something else.
