Debian Installation :: No Boot Disk Has Been Detected Or Disk Has Failed

Nov 3, 2015

I installed Debian on my PC with a Acer Stock motherboard (xc600) with amd64 and after the installation finished it told me to remove my installation media and reboot. After reboot I was returned this message ' ERROR: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed.'. I have verified with gparted using mint live OS that I have Debian installed on my system.

I got believes that this may have be caused by a broken grub or I need to configure something I don't know how in BIOS.

I will update the topic later..

My installation media was a USB 2.0 flashdrive with a Debian 8.2 Jessie Installer and 9 different Linux distros. I have installed Debian multiple times before on my laptop and never had this problem so I know how to go through the installation process and set the partitions.

Ubuntu Installation :: Netinstall / No Disk Drive Detected

May 13, 2011

After many hours trying to install Ubuntu(netinstall-64bit) i can not find any solution to get it working. I set-up via KVM and virtual device. Installation gives me error "No disk drive detected" when trying to detect discs/hardware. Someone told me i have to load megasr-source_13.13.1021.2009-1_all.deb by virtual-usb. It should include drivers for the controller not delivered by ubuntu-setup. After that I got to next setup-step partitioning, but it only shows me an IPMI-device which is either the virtual usb or cd i suppose.

System is one week old and I got it with pre-installed debian64bit which is working fine. So i dont think its hardware causing this.

I am trying to get an X window server setup on my CentOS 5.3 server rack. I have gotten as far as to doing:

yum groupinstall "X Window Sever" "GNOME Desktop Environment"

EDIT-Forgot to mention that I did Xorg -configure before testing the config. Only errors I got were:

(EE) LoadModule: Module ati_r500 does not have a ati_r500ModuleData data object.
(EE) Failed to load module "ati_r500" (invalid module, 0)

Linuxquestions--I posted this over on the CentOS forums, which are not as booming. Then I remembered these forums for when I had my VPS way back when and you guys were pretty helpful, of course expected me to mostly do my own reading which I dont mind its just having a hard time understanding some of the things in what I was reading. I even believe I came here with this problem before but abandoned the issue because my VPS was not powerful enough or something of the sort, but this was many years ago also on CentOS using apt. Now using yum which I like much better.

Fedora Servers :: How To Setup A Intel Xenon Power Edge 1900

Aug 31, 2009

I need to setup a Intel Xenon power edge 1900 server, which fedora version (10 or 11) suits it best and whether I should go for 64bit or 32bit (If I go with 64 bit some applications wont support it). I also have another issue, currently on another Intel Xenon power edge 1900 server on which Fedora 9 32bit version is installed, tough the server has 8GB ram, fedora can access only 3.2 GB. How can I solve this issue and will it repeat in the new server where I install fedora(10 or 11).

Hardware :: Ethernet Not Detected: Debian Lenny On Dell Latitude D600 Laptop

Mar 18, 2011

Ethernet is not detected with the following setup:

OS: Debian Lenny
Laptop: Dell Latitude D600
Ethernet adapter: Broadcom 57xx Gigabit Integrated Controller
Wifi adapter: Broadcom BCM4309 802.11a/b/g

Have done the following troubleshooting suggestions from around the www:

LAN controller is enabled in BIOS
dmesg | grep eth0 returns nothing
lspci -v | grep -i net shows wifi adapter but no ethernet adapter
ifconfig -a does not show eth0
ifconfig eth0 up confirms ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
Have done lsmod, but not sure what I should be looking for.

I would post lspci, dmesg or any other output, but as the adapter is not being detected, I have no network/internet connection from that laptop, have only one other Windows based (at this stage) laptop that I am using to write this message, and so would have to type out the output manually.Adapter indicators are both on when laptop is powered up. Am unsure if the ethernet adapter has somehow gone to sleep, and if so, unsure how to wake it.Perhaps the ethernet adapter is defective, but am hoping to confirm this before looking for a workaround/replacement.

Ubuntu :: HDAPS (Hard Disk Protection) On Thinkpad Edge 15

Apr 13, 2011

I am trying to use my accelerometer as joystick just so I know it's working, but I can't figure out how. To my surprise, Ubuntu doesn't seem to have a nice GTK joystick testing dialog. There used to be hdaps-gl out there for testing, but this was for very old models and is only released for Ubuntu 8.04 afaik. So I tried installing neverball for that purpose. It doesn't have options for joystick selection, but apparently it works out of the box with a Thinkpad T61.

Code:
sudo aptitude install tp-smapi-dkms
sudo modprobe tp_smapi
sudo modprobe hdaps

dmesg:
Code:
[720.093604] thinkpad_ec: thinkpad_ec 0.40 loaded.
[720.095348] tp_smapi 0.40 loading...

[842.861696] input: ThinkPad HDAPS accelerometer data as /devices/virtual/input/input11

lsmod:
Code:

hdaps 10772 0
tp_smapi 26194 0

(..)

I've also tried to use jstest with
/dev/input/js[0|1]
and
/devices/virtual/input/input10/[many things]
But the former gives static 0 for both axes and the second gives error messages (you're probably not supposed to use it like this).

Debian :: SATA DVD Drive Not Detected During Lenny Install?

Nov 17, 2010

I am trying to install Debian 5.0 "Lenny" on a PC with a very new hardware config (i3 processor, DDR3 RAM,LG SATA DVD drive, and Seagate SATA HDD). During the hardware detection phase of installation, I get a message saying the driver for my CD drive is not known, and asking me to select one manually. The options I get are only 'devcdrom', which does not work, and my installation cannot proceed.

I tried the following:

1. I read in a similar query that to use SATA DVD drives, I will have to set some boot options, so tried entering install libatapi_enabled=1 as an install option. This showed 'unknown parameter' error followed by same problem.

2. My Intel m/b BIOS has an option to set the DVD drive to "Native" or "Legacy", default is Native. I also tried changing this to "Legacy". Still same problem.

3. Read that I have to point to different drivers, but don't know how to do this during the installation.

General :: Dell PowerEdge 1600SC Server Won't Boot From Fedora 12 DVD Because Of CD Only Drive

Jan 23, 2010

Dell PowerEdge 1600SC Server won't boot from Fedora 12 DVD in the drive because it only supports CDs as I found out after the fact. I'm a complete novice @ servers, so if you need more detail, let me know, and I'll try to provide it. This server is around 4-6 years old. it has "PXE" boot, not sure what that means? This particular server has 3 RAID hard drives. As far as I know, they have all been wiped. I looked up the service tag on Dell, and it has: Compact Disk Drive, 650M, I Internal, Half Height, 48X, BlackHitachi LG Data Storage as its CD drive. Thus, the CD drive does not support DVDs, so installation will have to be via a live CD. However, I'm trying to put Amahi Home Server (http://www.amahi.org/), and Live CD/USB stick installs are not recommended unless one is an expert Linux user.
