General :: Cannot Write To SD Card Anymore

Dec 24, 2008

I am using OpenSuSE 11.0
KDE 3.5.9
Konqueror

I was able to copy 227 images to a brand new 2GB memory card and I am only using 8% of the card and now I can't write to it anymore?

Code:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
df -h returns this : /dev/sdd1
1.9G 136M 1.8G 8% /media/disk-2

This isn't the first time this has happened either. Just the last couple times I didn't really care enough to pursue it. But now I am trying to load a card for my daughters digital photo frame and I can't because now all of a sudden I can no longer write to the drive? The exact error message I get is: "Could not write to /media/disk/image.jpg" and when I try to create a new folder, I get a disk full error message? How in the heck is this possible when I am only using 136MB of 2GB of capacity?

General :: SD Card Write Protect On But Not Enabled

Sep 21, 2010

I plugged in a SDCard (SanDisk 4GB) with the write protect On in my Ubuntu system. Ideally this shouldn't have allowed me to write to this card. But it did. And that's when I found that it was getting mounted as a rw filesystem instead of ro. But the same card when I inserted it in another Ubuntu system with write protect On, this problem was not there. So nothing wrong with the Card.

General :: Write To SD Card Fails - No Error

Feb 17, 2010

I am using Sandisk 2GB micro SD card on ARM processor EP9307A. The card is detected, mounted.
I can read data from the SD card. But cannot write to it. There is no error when I attempt to write to the Card. It appears as if its working fine. But after umount and re-mount, the data written is gone.

Here is the log when the SD card is detected:
# insmod drv
card size = 1977614336, sector size = 31, wp_grp_size = 127, wp_grp_enable = y
S:00001000 M:fffff000

What is the significance of Write Group Protect Enable (wp_grp_enable=y). Is it the case that the SD card is write protected.

Using CMD9 : SEND_CSD , I can read the Card Specific Data (CSD).
I have tried CMD27 : PROGRAM_CSD , to CLEAR wr_grp_enable : No effect seen.
I have tried CMD29 : CLEAR_WRITE_PROT ,: No effect seen.

Where is the issue,
1. I could not send commands properly.
2. Card cannot be set free from WRITE_PROTECT.
3. Something else.

Is there a way I can access the card in a simliar fashion in linux?

Ubuntu :: Install 10.04 - Sound Broken Brasero - Won't Write CDs Anymore - Permissions?

Jul 17, 2010

I'm having some real troubles with my install of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. It was a fresh install just after 10.04 was released, so it's not been installed long. Just recently lots of things have stopped working I can't sudo (sudo: must be setuid root) Trying to su root tells me I got the password wrong, even though I know it's right Sound has broken Brasero won't write CDs anymore Plugging in a pendrive gives some permissions mounting error Clicking 'shut down' just logs out. The machine won't shut down at all. I'm guessing this might all be related to permissions/users? I really don't want to have to reinstall again!

General :: Alternative Ways To Turn Off Write Protection On SD Card

Mar 29, 2011

The lock on the card broke off and I tried using tape in that groove, but is too thick for my camcorder. I navigated /media > Context Menu > Properties > Permissions tab > File access, and chose Read and write, but this didn't allow my camcorder to record with the card. Unless there's a way to unlock it with software, I'll try switching the insides with the casing of another. I just want to know what is the best type of SD card or Mini SD adpter to do the trick, i.e. what has the best lock.

General :: Cannot Read / Write SD Card After Improper Format (sector Size 0) - Fix It?

Jun 12, 2011

I was attempting to reformat a 16GB MicroSD card in my camera when the battery died mid-way. After that, any time I try to read the card in my camera, it gives me a "Card Error" and does not allow me to reformat it in my camera.

So, I thought I would plug the camera in to the laptop with it set to host the card as media when plugged in as USB, in an attempt to fix the formatting issue.

However, when I plug it in to my linux machine, it does not register as a device (e.g., /dev/sda) due to some errors, therefore I cannot reformat it. Essentially, I think I need to fix the partition table but I'm not sure how to when it doesn't register as a device. code...

Now, if I ping the router the response times sometimes are okay but often fluctuate into the range of many hundreds or thousands of milliseconds. Occasionally the connection breaks down entirely. My laptop, which uses a different card, works fine (typical ping response times of 2 ms), so its probably not the router which is faulty.I use opensuse 11.3 x86_64, currently with the 2.6.34.7-0.7 desktop kernel and knetworkmanager

General :: Storage - Mount "locked" SD Card As Read-write In GNU

Feb 9, 2010

My Canon PowerShot A470 + CHDK can write to SD-cards that are "locked" (the lock switch is used to make the card bootable), but GNU/Linux

`/dev/mmcblk1': Read-only file system

(I'm using "Texas Instrument 5-in-1 Multimedia Card Reader")

So I have to switch that switch on and off again and again. ("unlocked" to write to the card in Linux, "locked" to boot the camera from it).

How to force locked card to be writable in GNU/Linux?

I've star rated hundreds of tracks. All I want to do is write the 4* & 5* tracks to an SD card for use elsewhere. Banshee can use Brasero to write them to CD so at a push I could write a CD then copy it back to an SD card but that seems the long way round.

I'm using Banshee 1.8.1 on Lucid.

Debian :: Low Power Server / Use USD Card As Write Buffer So HD Idles

Dec 18, 2015

I have made a server using a bananapi. The bananapi is an embedded linux mini PC, using an allwinner A20 SOC. This server boots and runs from an uSD card, and logs data from sensors to an attached 1TB hard drive. This works OK, but the hard drive consumes a lot of power (about 2.5W), this essentially doubles the amount of power needed. I am planning to power this setup from an accu, therefore I would like to keep power consumption as low as possible.

I am planning to let the application log to the uSD card. After a while the uSD card is almost full. At that moment I can wake up the HD, move the data to the HD, delete the data from the uSD card, set the HD to sleep, and wait until the uSD card is full again. Is there some clever way to do this? I can do this with basic shell scripting, but then I get all kind of issues like open files that are copied to the HD while they are still being filled by the logging application. This would mean they end up on the HD incomplete.

Hardware :: PCMCIA Linear Flash - Read And Write To The Card

Mar 4, 2011

The card in question is a PC Card (PCMCIA) 16Bit Intel Series 2 Flash Memory Card (2MB) and I want to be able to read from and write to the card. I've rebuilt latest stable kernel (2.6.37.2) with all the PCMCIA options turned on or built as modules. I've got an SRAM card, a CompactFlash Card (in a CF to PC-Card adapter) and the Linear Flash card to try, the SRAM card I'm not expecting greatness from, but hoping to prove that the slot works (it registers, but doesn't get much reported from lspcmcia). The CF card in the adapter works. I'm expecting to see a block device in /dev but nothing appears lspci:

Hardware :: Phone And Memory Card Auto Mounting With Write Permissions

Feb 4, 2010

Few weeks ago modified my old mobile phone SE k750i by setting on it w800i firmware. After this my phone isn't really (fully automatically) recognized by Ubuntu (9.10) which is the small problem for me now. Linux recognizes it as a USB device, but doesn't automatically mount it, which is why I have to do that manually and that leads to read only permissions for my user.

Here are the few outputs:

lsusb
Code:
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 046d:c222 Logitech, Inc. G15 Keyboard / LCD
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 046d:c221 Logitech, Inc. G15 Keyboard / Keyboard
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 0fce:d028 Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 046d:c018 Logitech, Inc. Optical Wheel Mouse
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 046d:c223 Logitech, Inc. G15 Keyboard / USB Hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
dmesg | grep usb .....

I've tried to create a custom udev rule via this thread, by putting the correct information according to lsusb:

Code:
SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0fce", ATTRS{idProduct}=="d028", MODE="0660", OWNER="zivs"
and reloading the udev rules, but that didn't help also.

How could I make my Ubuntu mount the /dev/sdb1 (which is my phone's memory card, since manually mounting it, there's all my phone recorded stuff) automatically on Desktop with all read and write permissions when I connect my phone to computer? Phone gets recognized immediately on Win7 OS ... but after the firmware change it's not really recognized by Ubuntu anymore.

General :: Kernel 2.6.31.20 Does Not Boot Anymore

Apr 6, 2010

I am using Ubuntu 9.10. Since a few days my I cannot boot anymore with the newest kernel (2.6.31-20.31). Instead I get a menu with a menu that lets me boot in recovery mode or boot from previous kernels (2.6.31-19).

In recovery mode for 2.6.31.20 it hangs at: Waiting for root file system. It boots just fine with kernel 2.6.31.19 except that apache and cups have to be reinstalled after every reboot. Everthing else seems to work without any problem.

Is there a way to do a system recovery, like in Win XP, going back to a system state from before the problems started?

General :: Monitor Resolution Was Correct But Not Anymore

Jun 11, 2010

About three weeks ago I bought a new PC and installed Debian Squeeze. I have a Samsung SyncMaster 2494hs monitor connected to it. Until about an hour ago the monitor resolution was 1920x1080 and there were no problems. Anytime I clicked on system -> preferences -> monitors, the monitor preferences displayed the monitor name (Samsung whatever) as well as the resolution (1920x1080). An hour ago I did my normal daily upgrade via synaptic (synaptic -> mark all upgrades -> apply). When the upgrade were finished, the system indicated that a restart was required, so I restarted.

After the reboot, my monitor's resolution is set at 1152x864. System -> preferences -> monitors shows the monitor name as unknown and the max resolution available is 1360x768. Xrandr shows the max available resolution as 1360x1360, which is obviously wrong. According to discover I have an ATI graphics card. I've also run ddcprobebut that outputs about 15 lines and then stops with edidfail. I do not have an xorg.conf on my system or, if I do have one, it is not in /etc/X11.
