Obviously I like to ask the repo from where I can get those, but before that ; why debian missing those in its repo ( I am using testing ) and how ubuntu manage those to include in their repo ? May be a topic for debian decision maker, though interested to know.

Debian Installation :: Testing Requires Missing Firmware File Rtl8168d-1.fw?

During the network card detection phase, it prompts to install missing firmware file rtl8168d-1.fw from removable media. I understand that this is a non-free blob removed from kernel v2.6.32.

Debian :: FFMPEG (libavcodec) Install Lacks H264 - MPEG-4 AVC?

Apr 9, 2011

I am running 64 Bit Debian, 6.0 install with VLC and libavcodec52, libavformat52, and libavdevice52 installed. I also installed recordmydesktop which creates an ogv file, and I would like to use VLC to convert the file to an MP4. Then I can add it to a project under Open Shot Video Editor.

I get the following errors when I try to convert the file: Streaming / Transcoding failed: It seems your FFMPEG (libavcodec) installation lacks the following encoder: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10). If you don't know how to fix this, ask for support from your distribution. This is not an error inside VLC media player.Do not contact the VideoLAN project about this issue.

Debian :: Debian Testing Vs Debian Stable With Testing Repositories?

Feb 28, 2009

I am a ubuntu user but I want to go to the next level to use debian because what I heard of it, but I get confused to what to install on my computer do I install debian testing or debain stable with testing repositories.

- I want to use this system to the home use only.
- I want to use the newest packages because the stable packages is too old to use.
- What about using more than one repository i.e stable with testing with unstable at the same time (the same sourcelist)
- Is the testing and unstable sid packages good enough for the home use?

Fedora :: F12 DMRAID Jmicron Missing Library And Extra Spaces?

Dec 2, 2009

things "seem" to work, first time I've really ever used dmraid (usually mdraid), but I'm worried about this error

dmraid -ay
RAID set "jmicron_STORAGE2 " was activated

The dynamic shared library "libdmraid-events-jmicron.so" could not be loaded:

libdmraid-events-jmicron.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Two things, why no matter what I name the RAID in the jmicron bios is puts a bagillion spaces after it, and second, I cannot find the missing lib anywhere I've installed all the dmraid* packages.

Can I point it to use the PATH to /usr/lib/libavcodec.a or should I just uninstall ffmpeg temporarily.

OpenSUSE :: What Exactly Is The Extra Repository /repositories/KDE:/Extra

Jul 18, 2010

there are 2 related to 11.3: openSUSE_11.3/ and openSUSE_11.3_KDE_Distro_Factory/ Index of /repositories/KDE:/Extra they are not listed as official kde4 repos here KDE repositories - openSUSE, but they are in the same directory structure on the build service so it would assume they are official (what ever official means) They have rpm's I didn't see in community and playground (at least for 11.3) such as audex and clementine I would guess that they are for the stable and factory versions of KDE4 but then shouldn't there be a 3rd for unstable if this was the case? Or do they refer to the distro, 11.3 stable and 11.3 factory

Debian :: Tablet Features For LMDE (Debian Testing), Fujitsu T4310?

Jul 4, 2011

I tend to stay on for long time. My machine is a Fujitsu T4310 tablet. I have got all tablet features previously working properly when I was on Isadora Mint. After installing LMDE to my surprise basic features of the tablet simply worked out of the box but I'm missing a few important features like multitouch, screen rotate and buttons in tablet mode.

As far as my experience with Isadora, it needed a driver called "fjbtndrv", but I couldn't find it in the repos, moreover, I think it might need some tweeks to get it behaving properly. I found some refferences but it refers to other ubuntu based distros, which I can't use of course.

p.s. prefere a solution other than compiling it myself, it looks scary and has lots of dependencies.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Find Libx264 Or Libxvid

Jan 29, 2011

I'm using mencoder to encode a DVD on my computer (reading it is not an issue), and I'm having trouble getting the codec to read a certain library. My command includes these options:

Code:

-ovc lavc
-lavcopts vcodec=libx264 (I also tried with libxvid)

It spat out this error at the end:

Code:

Cannot find codec 'libxvid' in libavcodec...
Couldn't open video filter 'lavc'.
Failed to open the encoder.
Exiting...

Unless I can get this working I'll fall back on mpeg4 but I would like these codecs. I've had good experiences with them. I've checked and the libx264-98 package is installed, along with libxvidcore4 and avifile-xvid-plugin Is this a permission problem? Or do I have to set a conf file? DO NOT suggest using a different -ovc or vcodec. If you have one that works for you, keep that for yourself. I am going to use lavc.

Install Two :
Installed Debian Sqeeze onto my desktop using the same netinst cd. However, this time I had connected the desktop to my router during installation. Similary installed "Standard System".

Both system later installed with KDE and working fine. Noticed that immediate after installation of the "Standard System", my desktop had more files installed eg. the exim package. Why the extra packages (eg exim) are installed? Are they actually required?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Ffmpeg: Libx264 Error When Using Presets?

May 25, 2011

OS: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx)

I have installed the latest ffmpeg using this tutorial : HOWTO: Install and use the latest FFmpeg and x264.

What ever I do I always get the same error when trying to use ffmpeg with the new presets setting. I've searched forums and google the whole last day and now I'm pretty lost.

Here is the command I use (I've stripped it down to it's simplest form.):

Code:
$ ffmpeg -i ~/Desktop/input.mkv -vcodec libx264 -vpre lossless_slow ~/Desktop/output.mp4
and this is the error:

[Code]....

I've tried changing the bitrate, adding -pass 1, bitrate tolerance, quality based etc... I've tried at least 60 different things... reinstall ffmpeg countless times using different tutorials. It's always the same error.

CentOS 5 :: How To Install Latest FFMPEG With Libx264 Support

I would like to install on my box FFMPEG with libx264 support. First of all I've tried yum install ffmpeg, but it occurs that it downloads a version from 2007 (?) and without libx264. Than I've tried this: [URL]. And everything goes ok till last ./configure:
./configure --enable-gpl --enable-postproc --enable-nonfree --enable-postproc --enable-libfaad --enable-swscale --enable-avfilter --enable-pthreads --enable-libxvid --enable-libx264 --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libfaac --disable-ffserver --disable-ffplay

And in this moment I do "make" and get:
-bash-3.2# make
gcc -DHAVE_AV_CONFIG_H -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE -D_ISOC9X_SOURCE -I"/usr/local/lib/tmp/ffmpeg2/ffmpeg" -I"/usr/local/lib/tmp/ffmpeg2/ffmpeg" -fomit-frame-pointer -pthread -g -Wdeclaration-after-statement -Wall -Wno-switch -Wdisabled-optimization -Wpointer-arith -Wredundant-decls -Wno-pointer-sign -Wcast-qual -Wwrite-strings -O3 -fno-math-errno

libswscale/swscale.c:3409: warning: assignment discards qualifiers from pointer target type
make: *** [libswscale/swscale.o] Error 1
