View 14 RepliesI have a few Debian Squeeze installations which I perform upgrades on average on weekly basis. Last week one of my laptops, gave me this while all others did not, The following packages have unmet dependencies: gnome-desktop-environment: Depends: gnome-core (= 1:2.30+1) but 1:2.30+4 is to be installed. gnome: Depends: gnome-desktop-environment (= 1:2.30+4) but 1:2.30+1 is installed and it is kept back. The following actions will resolve these dependencies: Remove the following packages: 1) gnome Keep the following packages at their current version 2)gnome-accessibility [1:2.30+1 (now) 3) gnome-core [1:2.30+1 (now) Accept this solution? [Y/n/q/?] Has anyone encountered this? Is it safe to accept the proposal?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed Mono on Debian 8 using apt-get. Specifically, I followed these instructions: [URL]..
Then suddenly, my entire machine locked up . . . I gave it a few minutes and then cold booted. It came up to a login prompt but no gnome. sigh. So, I use apt-get to uninstall all of the mono stuff and I also did apt-get clean, apt-get autoclean, apt-get autoremove . . . and rebooted . . . to a login prompt.
So, I installed gnome using apt-get install gnome-core and then after a reboot I got gnome again.
However, every time I log in, I see an "Oops" message flash briefly and then the GUI loads. Everything seems to be ok . . . but I don't like seeing that message; it says something like "something went wrong, please log out . . ."
I kind of dug around /var/logs a little and there are some error messages in kern.log files . . . how I can get my machine back to the state it was in, i.e., not flashing an Oops message when I authenticate?
I would like to remove openoffice.org from my Squeeze. I removed some portion of openoffice.org using following commands apt-get remove openoffice.org openoffice.org-calc openoffice.org-draw openoffice.org-impress openoffice.org-math openoffice.org-writer However the movement I put apt-get remove openoffice.org-base it says The following extra packages will be installed:
openoffice.org-base-core openoffice.org-core openoffice.org-filter-binfilter openoffice.org-gcj openoffice.org-gnome openoffice.org-gtk openoffice.org-java-common
openoffice.org-officebean python-uno
[code]....
And If i put all the openoffice.org packages to be removed it says it will install Gnumeric, abiword however I do not want it. I have downloaded libreoffice 3.4 and i want to install the same.
I'm not happy about having mono on my system, is there a way to uninstall it? I just installed fedora 11.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to run GNOME, X gives me "Failed to start the X-server" etc and something about "not detecting screens." and if I try to run KDE it just hangs with the _ blinking waiting for the next command. I only tried out KDE to see if it was a GNOME problem. I uncommented the stuff in /etc/X11/xorg.conf (because I had them previously commented out) but that doesn't help. I'm stuck with a GUI-less computer now . What can I do about this? If more information is needed, do not hesitate to ask.
View 14 Replies View RelatedCurrently I am using Debian 5 which has Gnome as default. I have come to know that Squeeze uses KDE as default.
My question is is there way that I can get Debian squeeze with gnome out of the box .
I installed Debian Squeeze with Gnome today. I'm unable to change from the default icon theme. I can change themes, but the icon theme remains default.Things I've tried:
- I've made a new user account.
- .gtkrc-2.0 in my home is auto-generated, .gtkrc.mine does not exist.
# -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT include "/usr/share/themes/Darklooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc" include "/home/haunted/.gtkrc.mine"
# -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT
- I've tried installing a theme into my /home/.themes.
- I've reinstalled gnome-settings-daemon.
- Tried changing themes then doing a full reboot.
- Cursed it periodically.
I installed Mono 2.4 and I am struggling myself to remove all folders related to mono.. I didn't install from Synaptic so it's not just 'apt-get autoremove mono', I used the tarball.. how to remove all files from the installation?

Previously (on Lenny) I would boot my computer and it would happily boot through to the Gnome login page (the pretty graphical one). Now (on Squeeze) I get the plain old text login prompt. So I login normally and try running "startx". It comes up with a black screen and a mouse pointer. Nothing else. Ctrl+shift commands seem to work so I am able to get to another terminal. When I switch back to the first terminal there are just come Gnome startup messages.
I really need to have this working in order to do some "work". give me a sure fire way of either fixing this, even if it means instructions on re-installing Gnome? Normally I could copy log files from my Linux machine to my email computer but with no desktop I find this too difficult and really don't have the time to spend working out how to do it. (I have "work" to do as well). So, just briefly I will summarise the Xorg.0.log file:

How to change gnome startup background under squeeze? I mean the beackground from user login mask.

I am running Debian Squeeze 32bit with gnome-core installed. When I alter the acceleration or sensitivity within the pointer speed section of gnome-mouse-properties, my mouse does not act differently. Has anyone else encountered this problem? How can I change my mouse sensitivity? I have installed Debian Lenny previously and I recall that I was capable of changing the sensitivity.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that I am trying to install nvidia drivers I got integrated card nvidia geforce 6100 nforce and amd x2x64 processor and also squeeze x64, so I downloaded the driver but when I try to top gnome I cant
/etc/init.d/gdm stop it says no such file or directory
So I google it and I found that squeeze has genome 3 so I put:
/etc/init.d/gdm3 stop
and it just appears a black screen just with a prompt but without any shell, I cant sign in debian or do anything it is just a black screen and i try ctrl+alt+f1, f12, f8, space and nothing, I can write but it doesn't response the only thing that I can do is press ctrl+alt+dell and it restart the PC. How can I stop gnome to install my drivers?
I would like to know if anyone has run more than one version of mono concurrently. I want to host a Battlefield 2 server with bf2ccd that requires mono 1.1.12. CentOS 5.3 repos provide mono 1.2.4 which is neither new enough nor old enough to support bf2ccd. I have considered compiling a newer version or an older version to accommodate this but I think that the only fully supported version is the 1.1.12 and I want to have the newer mono for other projects. I have used Slackware exclusively up to now and am not familiar with CentOS yet so I would like to avoid compiling if I can. The server is an unmanaged dedicated server so I'm not certain of all of the details. AFAIK it is a standard CentOS 5.3 install.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo, I have compiled a C# program on Linux using MonoDevelop. When I try to execute the resulting binary, my system tries and fails to run it as a windows executable, with wine. Wine gives me the following message:
$ ~/bin/MyMonoApp
wine: Install the Windows version of Mono to run .NET executables
~/bin/MyMonoApp: command not found
I can only convince it to run by explicitly calling mono:
$ mono ~/bin/MyMonoApp
So, how can I make this the default, so I don't have to explicitly call mono every time?
I'm surprise that synaptic wants to remove gnome with tomboy, how can I avoid this disaster and remove only tomboy and other application i don't use.?

View 1 Replies View RelatedFresh Squeeze install: I have AWN running and right now I have used gconf-editor to stop gnome-panel from being a part of the Gnome Sessions. I think it was in Desktop -> Sessions -> Default Settings..or something like that. Before I did this I was just clearing out the entries for the top panel, using Apps -> Panel -> and then it was top_panel or something like that. I'm at work so I cannot fully verify, after I deleted the bottom panel. This still allowed me to use ALT + F2 to bring up the run prompt.
Since removing gnome-panel from the session, I cannot use ALT + F2 anymore. If I were to put gnome-panel back, is there a way to keep the panels from recreating themselves after I remove them from within gconf-editor? If I leave gnome-session alone, whenever I reboot the top panel keeps coming back. I have everything I want running out of the AWN dock, so I want to remove the panels completely but still have the ability to launch the run prompt.
I've recently been tasked with setting up a couple linux servers and have run into an oddity. Using the default install for Wheezy to set up a basic LAMP stack, I have noticed after joining the computer to my windows AD domain, the Add/Remove Software application no longer prompts me for authentication and will not remove or add applications. I installed samba, winbind, and krb5 using apt-get from the root console following the procedure listed here. [URL] ....
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Jessie 8.3, netinstall and GNOME base. I want to switch to MATE and my question is hot to do it correctly.
I think it is impossible to do it by installing firstly MATE and the GNOME - both desktops should be crashed.
How to remove completely GNOME to be without any desktop environment? I can go to thext mode and run commands to delete the desktop but there is something more that I should do?
I'm using KeePass 2.10 (with mono) and I am able to copy a password from KeePass (Ctrl+C) and paste into ALL applications except for the GNOME Terminal. When I copy something, I am not able to paste into the terminal, and find the Paste menu item in the edit menu disabled. However, if I paste into another application and cut from there, I can paste into the terminal.
(if it is a bug) which project I should report a bug to (gnome or KeePass?).
I am looking for music player like banshee but do not want mono . Banshee unfortunately requires mono
[Code]...
Obviously have not given all all the deps, but the last 7 odd ones tell you what I mean. If anybody knows of any good music player which has similar functionality as banshee lemme know. Look for two things:-
a. Should be able to play all and any music format (have all the plugins)
b. Should be able to close it and have it in the system tray playing in the background.
I've got a relatively simple question. I'm trying to start a program that must be run with mono when my system boots. It's a webserver (McMyAdmin if that helps) so I'd also like to start it as a specific user
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a machine where I dabble a bit with mono and .NET in my spare time. It's running Jessie and upgraded mono to 3.0.6 from 2.x and MonoDevelop to 4.0.
Rebuilt my webapp after upping the target platform to Mono .NET 4.5 and it works fine in the debugger.
When copying the app to the production folder (on the same machine) it will no longer start and apache's error log says:

I understand from posts like this one: [URL] .....
...that Microsoft moved the ExtensionAttribute from System.Core.dll to mscorlib.dll in .NET 4.5. And that a [TypeForwardedTo] attribute is supposed to make this transparent.
I get this - but have no clue to how to make my webapp work? It does so under the debugger so it obviously does some magic.
