Debian :: Running Squeeze 32bit With Gnome-core Installed?

Jul 10, 2010

I am running Debian Squeeze 32bit with gnome-core installed. When I alter the acceleration or sensitivity within the pointer speed section of gnome-mouse-properties, my mouse does not act differently. Has anyone else encountered this problem? How can I change my mouse sensitivity? I have installed Debian Lenny previously and I recall that I was capable of changing the sensitivity.

Software :: 32bit Program Still Not Running After Installing Ia32-libs On Debian Squeeze

Jun 1, 2011

I have a Debian Squeeze x64 VPS that I have been renting and I'm having some trouble getting the 32bit version of the Ventrilo server to run. I found alot of people with this problem since Ventrilo only has 32bit Linux servers and this solution seems to work for everybody but me. URL...t=798157 Could it be because of a newer version of ia32-libs is not providing a library that is considered obsolete but Ventrilo still needs?

Debian Multimedia :: Just Installed Squeeze / Running Back To Lenny

Feb 6, 2011

I could not get the hardware to work with Lenny's ancient drivers, so I gave up and decided to upgrade to Squeeze.Well, the hardware works (except sound), but KDE4 is a such a disaster that I want to run not walk! all the way back to Lenny. I'm stunned that after four years of active development, this desktop still doesn't have something as basic as keyboard shortcuts or the ability to place icons where YOU want them.

The widgets frustrate me to no end. The new K menu is impossible to navigate. I'd rather hang myself than use Dolphin as a file manager. KDE4 gives me more notifications than MS Windows' crapware. And it's UGLY !!! The "Oxygen" theme makes me want to tear my eyeballs out.

Debian Configuration :: Disable Framebuffer After Squeeze 32bit Installation?

I'm installing a non-X server using squeeze 32bit netinst iso, expert installation. I don't know that I can specify "debian-installer/framebuffer=false" during the installation, after reboot I got a framebuffer display with console fonts smaller and fonts look like ubuntu. I search around I can edit GRUB config for the resolution items or disable framebuffer. How can I disable the framebuffer (use normal text system fonts) when booting in LILO?

I got everything installed and setuped, I don't want to re-install the OS again.

Debian :: Broken Package In Squeeze - Xorg Core

Feb 7, 2010

After going from Debian Lenny to squeeze, everything was going OK, apart from 8 broken packages of which I was easily able to fix 7 of the packages. The last one is x-org core, which comes up with the error message /var/cache/apt/archives/udev_150-2_i386.deb returned an error. From all my research it indicates that an update from kernel 2.6.26-2-686 to a later version is required due to 150 udev requiring the support of the CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED. My next question is where to start, do I need to add a linux-image repository in sources.list and then use the command-line or am I headed in the wrong direction.

Debian Configuration :: 8.0 With GNOME 32bit - WiFi Connection With WPA2

Apr 12, 2016

I'm using Debian 8 with GNOME 32bit. I installed a driver with ndiswrapper for my old D-Link DWL-G650M.

If i using the default network manager to connect with a Free wifi the connection works fine. But if the wifi have the password the connection doesn't work.

I. using my phone Android to create the Router-Wifi like this:

SSID: AndroidAP5
Password: BillyBob
Encryption(the one allowed): WPA2 PSK

With network manager gnome is impossible to connect. I changed in setting the password type with WPA2 but the system doesn't connect.

I tried to connect manually and i updated the file /etc/network/interfaces as the follow:

Code: Select allauto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-driver wext
wpa-ssid AndroidAP5
wpa-ap-scan 1
wpa-proto RSN
wpa-pairwise CCMP
wpa-group CCMP
wpa-key-mgmt WPA-PSK
wpa-psk 18[...]

After this I tried to execute the follow command :

Code: Select all/etc/init.d/networking restart

And the system returns:

Code: Select all[  ok  ] Restarting networking (via systemctl): networking.service

but nothing else happens. The internet connection doesn't work. The Android phone not detect PC connection IN.

Debian :: PS3 Running An .img Of Squeeze - Out Of Space

Feb 10, 2011

If you haven't heard, PS3's on custom firmware have access to a linux install of sorts.

The OS is running from an .img of a Debian squeeze install.

My problem is that installing anything makes it run out of space. (It's only a 1Gig image)

I have searched and found some info, but it doesn't seem to work.

Make sure you have loop module on your linux.

Now you can copy the linux.img to your root of usb stick...

AND...

Mount first the original 1gb linux.img and then copy it to somewhere and then create an bigger image and copy to the new image.

mount:

And then follow the how to above. i think you should copy the folder with rsync because cp command will damage folder permissions!

Debian :: Deb Squeeze Running From USB-stick

Mar 8, 2011

I want to get a running Squeeze onto a bootable USB-stick to test it, to make desirable adaptions and adoptions and only when I feel, that everything is okay, install that over my existing Deb-installation.

The DVD however offers only an "install" over an existing Linux-system, destroying that. Really hours and hours of Google aso. brought no solution to a - in my opinion - simple task.

I want to transfer the content of the DVD onto the USB-stick, make that stick bootable and THEN enable me to act like the system on the stick were my real OS, including of course making changes to the configurations. Only when I'm satisfied with the result, I then want to overwrite my existing system.

Debian :: Can't Run GNOME Or KDE On Squeeze

May 30, 2010

When I try to run GNOME, X gives me "Failed to start the X-server" etc and something about "not detecting screens." and if I try to run KDE it just hangs with the _ blinking waiting for the next command. I only tried out KDE to see if it was a GNOME problem. I uncommented the stuff in /etc/X11/xorg.conf (because I had them previously commented out) but that doesn't help. I'm stuck with a GUI-less computer now . What can I do about this? If more information is needed, do not hesitate to ask.

Debian :: Debian Squeeze / Gnome Icon Themes Don't Change

Feb 8, 2011

I installed Debian Squeeze with Gnome today. I'm unable to change from the default icon theme. I can change themes, but the icon theme remains default.Things I've tried:

- I've made a new user account.

- .gtkrc-2.0 in my home is auto-generated, .gtkrc.mine does not exist.

# -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT include "/usr/share/themes/Darklooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc" include "/home/haunted/.gtkrc.mine"

# -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT

- I've tried installing a theme into my /home/.themes.

- I've reinstalled gnome-settings-daemon.

- Tried changing themes then doing a full reboot.

- Cursed it periodically.

Debian Multimedia :: Running Squeeze - Give KDE A Try?

Jul 28, 2010

For many years I used KDE and loved it. After Ubuntu appeared and got popular I decided to give Gnome a try as I figured that it must be OK if they used it in Ubuntu (and selected as the default desktop in Debian). I missed out on all the wailing and gnashing that accompanied the release of early versions of KDE 4. I've been using Gnome ever since and I have a really nice setup on squeeze - Chrome for browsing, Geany for development, Gnote for notes, Evolution for offline Gmail and Google calendars.

In fact, it's probably because Gnome is working so well for me right now that the geek in me fancies having a bit of a tinker with KDE. I keep reading that version 4 has now matured enough for production use. The only thing that puts me off is the sheer number of packages I need to install. I'm going to end up with a right mess in my menus etc, but still it might be worth it. What do you reckon - should I just stick with my nice Gnome desktop or should I dip my toe back into KDE? (or go for l33t status and install Xfce) I've got a thinkpad T400 with integrated intel graphics.

Debian :: Running KDE 4.x From Squeeze - Manual Install

Apr 21, 2011

I have recently installed Debian Squeeze on my main machine at home. I used the default installation options, which meant gnome was installed as the display manager/GUI. Once I got the system up and running, I have attempted to install the latest KDE display manager/GUI. I executed the following commands:

$sudo apt-get install kde4

and then responded as required when asked if I really wanted to get and install the huge list of programs this involved.

When booting up in runlevel 3, I would log in, and then execute the following command:

$ sudo kdm

the screen would go blank and I would eventually get a KDE error message saying:

"Cannot open theme file @@@ToBeReplacedByDesktopBase@@@"

I would then be given only the option to press OK, which would dump me back out to the command line. I can get the GUI to start by executing "Startx", which doesn't require sudo to run I might add. The problem is that this command starts gnome. I would like to start X from the command line, but be given a choice of either GNOME or KDE.

Question 1: How do I fix the issue which generates the error message detailed above?

Question 2: How do I set up X to ask me which display manager I would like to use? and

Question 3: Am I correct in assuming that KDM shouldn't require sudo to run? If so, how do I adjust the situation so that it is correctly configured to run like gnome (without requiring root access to run)?
