I recently installed Squeeze, installed several applications via the package manager and almost universally, the help menus don't function. Flash is installed and works for Iceweasal, at least I can watch a ..... vid.

Trying to get a backtrace using gdb doesn't give any useful info:
I installed Jessie (8.1.0) and encountered a problem which is non-existent in Wheezy (7.8.0).
My shell is zsh and I use tmux both installed from packages, I use this zsh feature that when you type "ls /" and then hit "Tab" twice, it will present you a menu where you can select the directory you want navigating the menu with the arrow keys. It works fine out of tmux (in bare shell) but stopped working inside a tmux session. In bare shell you hit Tab twice and get into the menu, in tmux you hit Tab twice and it displays the table of suggestions but just keeps cycling suggestions (cycling directory names) and not sending me to the menu.
Here's some screenshots:
1) Working (no tmux): I hit tab twice and got in the menu.
2) Not working (in tmux): I hit tab twice and it just cycled directory names after "/"
t isn't in my config file, I tried without my .tmux.conf (with tmux set to default settings) and it still had no effect.
I have Debian Jessie 8.0 amd-64 installed. It is a dual boot system with Widnows 8.1 alongside. Both the systems work fine with a few glitches coming at times on jessie. But I assume it should get stabilised with time.
Problem is:
The usb keyboard is no longer detected until the GRUB stage crosses.
* This implies I am unable to press F2 to enter into BIOS
* I am unable to chose Windows 8.1 by using arrow key on the keyboard.
When the default system (first in the grub list), in this case Debian is selected after time runs out then the keyboard comes back to life and works properly thereafter.
So far I have tried the possible solution given at [URL] .... but it did not work.

When I right click my indicator menu on the top right of screen I do not get a menu appearing which allows me to add or subtract an applet to this menu.I did disable the bottom menu (number 2).How can I resolve this issue?

Can anyone recommend a version of syslinux that is compatible with CentOS 5.2 (x86_64) in which the menu timer issue has been resolved?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two problems, that I can live with, but they are just annoying for tha afact that I don't know how to fix them.1. My suspend does not work. Hibernation works - after I turn on after the hibernation, screen is blank, I have to move the mouse for the login window to appear. For Suspend, I get to the black screen, but then nothing happens - when I move the mouse or Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, nothing. It is a laptop, if that makes a difference.2. When booting, I get a table of choices - the new kernel, the old kernel, memtests and the long gone windows partition. There is no /etc/grub/menu.lst and I've got no idea how to change this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 11.04 2 days go using wubi. Until today everything worked fine, but now whenever I try to use my keyboard to select the OS option in the boot menu, it doesn't work(arrow keys, enter button nothing works). After 10 seconds the default selection (windows 7) starts up. When windows boots up, the keyboard starts working again.
I googled for the it and found that users who had USB keyboards had this problem, but I'm using a PS/2 keyboard. Also, for 2 days everything went fine but after that it suddenly started happening.
Ive had a look around and couldn't find anything that helped so i thought id ask,i have ubuntu net-book 10.10, the menu editor isnt running properly its really hit and miss i have icons that appear even if ive unchecked them and icons that dissappear even though ive checked them and i also keep having to delete duplicate program entrys in the menu editor and its been a problem pretty much since instalationive tried running Alacart as Sudo and editing the menu in that way but i still have the same hit and miss problem with icons being there at randomim really new to Ubuntu and only know what ive recently picked up reading these types of forums so im not sure if im doing something wron
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu Gnome fresh yesterday. I quickly decided Unity wasn't to my taste, especially when I seemed to hose it by trying to customize my compiz settings with ccsm (don't mess with compiz if you use Unity in any way). Anywho, I retreated to standard Gnome and also installed KDE. Mostly OK, but I noticed neither of the menu editors are working properly. When I install an application from the repositories it creates a proper menu entry, but when I install a Wine application nothing appears in the menu. Attempting to edit, add, or delete menu entries with the Gnome menu editor doesn't work. Hitting the New or Properties buttons produces no effect. Using the KDE menu editor from the Classic (non-slab) menu is likewise unsatisfactory. I can add or modify entries and apparently save them but nothing appears in the menu and when I re-open the menu editor my entries are not there. I can manually create application shortcuts on the desktop or on the Gnome panel, but I can't add those to the KDE Quick Launch bar in the panel (I think that's what its called, I'm in Gnome now).
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe're doing a web gui with extjs & flash chart. The problem is a drilldown menu from flash chart to some other page. The drilldown menu is working fine on all other os & browser, but not on 64bit centos 5.x & ff 3.0 or 3.5, which we need to support. It's always behind the flash chart. With the firefox coming with 64bit centos 5.x (which I believe it's a 64bit firefox), all of them are not working. But the weird thing is, with some newly installed centos 5.4, if I use a firefox 3+ downloaded from mozila/firefox official site (I guess it's a 32bit firefox).
The drilldown menu works fine. However with some other centos 5.4 which are upgraded from centos 5.2, the drilldown menu won't work. Please see the attached screenshots for the detailed info. I've tried many things, tried latest 32bit flash plugin, tried 64bit flash plugin, tried updating the nspluginwrapper (according to [URL]) and several other things. None of them works. From adobe tech note [URL].
"Note: The WMODE parameter is supported only on some browser/Flash Player version combinations. If the WMODE parameter is not supported, the Flash movie will always display on top. Refer to TechNote 14201 for details."
I understand that not all the os & browser & flash version combinations support WMODE, but it really bugs me that with almost the same os (64bit centos 5.4), the same firefox (32bit v3.5.5 downloaded from getfirefox.com), the same flash plugin (32bit v10.0.r32), why some of them can see the javascript menu on top of flash chart, but some of them will always be behind the flash chart?
Only "Favourites", "Run Command" and "Leave" is shown on the classic KDE menu, same thing when switching to Launcher Menu Style. Missing Applications and everything else. File associations is not working. Double clicking any type of file it asks to install the program and the known applications menu is empty.
I tried to add a new user, same problem with that. I also noticed that when running Chrome it asks to be the default web browser each time even when I say yes.
I have not been messing with anything, I suspect it happened during a update, but I got the exact same repositories on 2 other x64 machines where there is no problem.
I'm using KDE 4.6.0 from the factory repository.
I tried to reinstall some KDE4 packages without any luck.
I do not want to reinstall the entire system or downgrade KDE.

I just installed OpenSuse 11.1 alongside of Ubuntu 9.10. After finishing up the installation I find that I can't get into Ubuntu. I have tried adding Ubuntu to the OpenSuse /boo/grub/menu.lst but it doesn't seem to be working.

Then I installed dropbox via synaptic -- and it worked just great.Then I got some very strange behavior in how my tabs (firefox) worked, and the windows on the system would no longer respond.I restarted.... and the behavior got worse.. my menu would not show up, and when I opened dropbox -- the windows would not move, their menu(s) did not work, and I could not close them.
I tried to:
-- reinstall gnome
-- reinstall nautilus

When I click "Places" in the top gnome panel of Maverick, then click any link such as "Home" or "Desktop" (or any bookmark) Movie Player opens (instead of Nautilus)! This started today. I have rebooted twice, but that didn't help (no surprise--this isn't Windows).

I cannot right click with my mouse on the gnome applications menu to get the properties/edit menu option. This is on F12 on 64bit.
Instead I get: "help, remove from panel, lock panel". I dont have this problem with anything else on the top bar.

Turns out I have to install package alacarte and then go to System > Preferences > Main Menu
I have ubuntu 10.04 on the home screen page in the left have colum you have a list of menu items when you install ubuntu, I happen to deselect one of teh menu items. I now cannot reinstate the menus I have included a screen-shot of the home screen so you can see the menu items I have available on the left hand side

When I click the button from the drop down ''PLACES'' menu i get this "Error File not found'' but if i go to places>computer>home folder, then it opens. If i type in ''CWD" i get this "/home/piepie''.so the home folder does exist, and if i type /home/piepie is a directory.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried Wubi, and all is fine, but when I choose Ubuntu on the boot menu, it shows some dialog, then just blank. its stays blank forever, so I had to shut the computer off.Then, I burned the Ubuntu iso to a CD and botted from it at startup. This at least showed the purpl-ish install screen. After I pressed enter over install, it went to the blank screen again. just black, nothing appeared.I'm not sure what the problem is. My laptop is fairly new, it shouldnt be having an issue to run it.I have 4Gb RAM, plenty of space on the hard drive, and a 1Gb video card...I have no clue what to do, as this is my first encounter with an Linux distro ever. help?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've just upgraded to 11.04 and really like it so far, everything seems to be running smoothly and I had no issues apart from a broken Emerald which I removed (and installed compiz-gnome and then made gtk-window-decorator the default, which fixed Unity segfaulting on Emerald).
My problem now is that when I use the Unity dash to search for something, it takes a while to search and then finds nothing. I'm pretty sure I should have things like "text editor", "gimp", "update manager", so I would think this is some manner of bug.
In addition to that, the following buttons don't do anything if I click on them:
- Media Apps
- Internet Apps
- More Apps
- Find Files
am new to this Linux world and a full time windows user. Now planning for a switch over and installed Debian into my PC as a parallel OS with windows.However, am facing the following problems after installing the os.
1. The menu bar is not visible, nor the application bar. I use Gnome and have attached a screen shot of what I see when logged in.
2. I am not able to play any movie files as it says that there are no drivers for that.
3. I do not see anything through which I can see the applications installed.
4. I am not able to access any drives of windows through this. It says access denied.
5. How do I log in as a root user?
I have used Puppy Linux before this and it was simplistic.
I run a minimal Lenny install, with icewm. Everything works, but I'd like to change the menu around a bit. I've spent months reading all the docs I can find, both Debian and Icewm, and Googling for other hints. But I cannot find on my computer a file whose contents correspond with what actually appears on the screen. Is there such a file? Or does the menu get sort of assembled in situ from the various bits and pieces scattered around the filing system? Looked at: /etc/X11/icewm/menu, /usr/share/icewm/menu, /home/gerry/.icewm/menu (doesn't exist), /usr/share/menu/. None of these appears to be the right one, they all have items missing, or items for non-installed programs which don't appear. I'm perplexed.

Yet another problem, I have to use EDUROAM in university, when i use Debian, with the same strength of signal, it can not make a connection, but can be very well used in Windows. I am suspecting 'Network manager'.
I installed the software "Stellarium" from a installer I downloaded, but no shortcut was added to the menu. How can I create one? My desktop environment is LXDE.

What can be possible causes of this? In KDE the Windows Decorations are set to BE II preview, with a customized Desktop theme. Could this cause the menu bar not showing?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI think I have uncovered a BUG in the APPLICATIONS -> GAMES Menu system. I have UN-Checked all Games except for:Sudoku, DosBox, Chess, and AisleRiot Solitaire. But all the Games are still displayed that were installed from DVD.I have done a Logout, and Login, and Power Off. The games still do not show only the ones selected.See attached Games1.pngI have tried to submit a BUG Report but obviously I don't understand how that system works, as it just closes the window.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I'm using Iceweasel 4 from the mozilla.debian.net repos. I recently upgraded a friend's computer from Windows Vista to Debian Linux. I went over to his house to chill and hopped on his computer to check my Facebook and noticed that his Iceweasel has the Firefox 4 single menu button at the top left of the window. He's not a tech-savvy user so he probably enabled this feature by accident, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. He's using the same version of Iceweasel as myself by the way.
