View 1 RepliesI have been searching for many months for a procedure to install Weatherbug onto ubuntu 10.10. I have asked this forum and have received many recommendations one of the most important was to make sure that Gdebi was installed which it was not on my machine. I found the following procedure that worked for me: To install weatherbug issue the following command in the terminal window (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal )
sudo apt-get install sun-java5-jre libswt3.2-gtk-java To install weatherbug issue the following command in the terminal window wget [URL] and sudo dpkg -i weatherbug-1.0-1.deb After completing the installation you can launch weatherbug from (Applications -> Accessories -> Weatherbug )

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get sendmail to work with php but i can't even seem to get it to work on it's own. I'm logged in as root (su root). I have in php.ini: commented out smpt and smtp port (win 32 only it says) and sendmail_from commented out
For unix only
sendmail_path=/usr/lib/sendmail
sendmail seems to be installed i can run it from bash. I try sending an email using:
sendmail example@whatever.com
message
ctrl + D
which i saw somewhere however the email doesn't seem to go through. I've also tried (after restarting apache server) to use mail() php function and that also doesn't work. Any ideas?
I'm trying to install Debian on Dell XPS L501, and there are lots of problems...
1- Resolution is 800x600! I guess, I need to add that there is no xorg.conf file, and I couldn't create it by running `Xorg -configure`. It said the number of screens didn't match number of detected devices or something like that! I'd be really happy if this gets solved!
2- Ctrl+Alt+F1/2/3/4/... doesn't work! Sometimes Alt+Directional keys works. but most of the time it doesn't!
3- I can't get the loud speakers to work, and I couldn't compile Alsa from source... I'll try again, but does anyone know if there is a specific package I need to install to get them to work? (Realtek ID 665)
4- Keys are not working right... Function keys don't work... But the worse thing, is that if let's say Fn+F2 is supposed to disable wireless, F2 does!
I was wondering if Debian Net install would work on a Dell machine. Because when I installed Windows on it I had actually go online with my other computer to find the damn dell drivers. So just wondering if Debian would detect the dell devices and actually have drivers for it.Yes, I realize it's probably a completely stupid question.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI used to be an Ubuntu user(yeah, shame on me), so I basically migrated to Debian. Without much further ado I want to come to the problem which I am facing.I am currently using "Squeeze" 6.0 with the AMD64-Architecture. I'm trying to connect to the Internet via the T-Home Surfstick W 102, I've also got the drivers for it I just don't know if they work under Linux. "lsusb" gives me the following: Bus 001 Device 004: ID 083a:d522 Accton Technology Corp. Speedport W 102 Stick IEEE 802.11n USB 2.0 Adapter
I downloaded Ndiswrapper to see if I can establish a connection but whenever I tried to install it I got the following error: "makefile:34 cannot find kernel version in etc. , is it configured?".(I hope I followed the instructions correctly in the file). Then I tried to install the drivers using Wine but I guess it was pointless 'cause the programme does not start.
I just installed a fresh copy of stable Debian, and apt-get installed Iceweasel and Tor/Privoxy (apt-get install tor automatically obtains Privoxy). I went into /etc/privoxy/config and uncommented the socks4a line that makes Tor and Privoxy work together. I made sure /etc/init.d/tor and /etc/init.d/privoxy were both started, Then I got iceweasel-torbutton with apt-get. I fired up Iceweasel and turned on Torbutton, but after a while I get the Privoxy page error with every website I go to. I tried doing "torify iceweasel" in the terminal, but I get the same Privoxy page error. What settings do I need to change?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI would ask how automounting of devices works in debian. I'm trying to modify the name of automatic mount point from the label name of devices (or their UUID) to the devices name. That because the UUID is often a very complicated string, meanwhile the label often contains spaces; so become difficult working with theme in scripts...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm evaluating Debian for use as my main system (on my laptop). Currently I'm using arch linux, and am pretty satified except the need for too much manual configuration. What I'm looking for a system, which is similar to arch in that, but is more automated when it comes to configurations:
- can be build from a minimal base, with only the software that is needed, sort of "tailored" to my own needs; the system will therefore be relatively lightweight, with no unnecessary things consuming resources)
- does not require fiddling to much in configurations (I agree that some degree is necessary, due to the tailoring)
- handles well upgrades (this is where arch looks really promising, due to the rolling release, even with the disadvantage of loosing some of the stability)
One of the things I did not like about arch was the feeling to have a system which is built from several pieces that don't quite fit together. I guess that it is a consequence of the fact that some things are not configured right, or configured at all.
I have a server running at my home configured to host a few websites. All of which are live and production ready. The server has virtually no packages installed and I use a 3rd party dns server. The only services the server uses is nginx (http server) + php5-fpm (PHP), and openssh-server (secure shell).
The problem is my simple php contact forms don't work. I'm certain it isn't the php form code but rather my server configuration because the form works perfectly on my local machine. Finding an answer has proven difficult. I've tried setting up a full blow mail server when really all I need is the ability to send mail using the php mail() function.
It simply does not sync.Running debian squeeze with Gnome.I have tried updating to the latest testing version. dropbox-lnx.x86-0.6.491.tar.gz

I have a problem with my debian install. I 've got a laptop with 3 OS:
First I installed windows.
Then I installed ubuntu 15.04 in an encrypted partition, and another partition with /boot (/dev/sda6) created when I installed Ubuntu.
And, finally I installed Debian 8 in an encrypted LVM (/dev/sda8) with 3 partitions (/, /home and swap), and a /boot (/dev/sda7) partition created when I installed Debian.
Needless to say that both /boot partitions are not encrypted
Previously I had a similar configuration with ubuntu 14.04 and Debian wheezy.
The problem is that I can't start the system by using the Debian grub (/dev/sda7). So Ihave to boot the system using Ubuntu's grub (/dev/sa6). The second part of the problem is that when I boot Debian using /dev/sda6 (ubuntu's grub) , plymouth does not work.
I tried purging grub and reinstalling it again with the ubuntu partition mounted, and it did not work.
I did not have this problem with my previous configuration (with wheezy and xubuntu 14.04) ...
I cannot log on. I don't know if this is related, I was setting up for remote desktop, setup a password for the remote session. After rebooting, my normal user and password do not work and my rdp password does not work.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI am running Debian 8.2 (Jessie) with KDE 4.14.2. I use ibus to enter CJK characters. ibus is setup "the manual way" from URL....
Code: Select allexport GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus
export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus
export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus
CJK input via ibus works for Qt4 applications such as Kate and Kwrite. However, CJK input via ibus does not work automatically with Qt5 applications, such as sqlitebrowser. I can get ibus running with Qt5 applications if I launch the application from the console like this:
Code: Select allQT_IM_MODULE=ibus sqlitebrowser
Is there way I can get ibus working with Qt5 applications automically without needing to add "QT_IM_MODULE=ibus" all the time?

I have checked that the pasword is correct. I had network-manager installed but it has been uninstalled. I am trying to connect to a WPA2PSK router. I might be a firmware problem, since I get a 'message' on the start screen that there are some problems with my firmware, but I can't figure out how to check if it is broken, or how to configure it so it is correct.
I have the qualcomm atheros ar9485 wireless card. As far as I can tell, the driver for that is either ath3k or ath9k, both are installed. The message I get when I start the computer is: usb 1-1.1: firmware: failed to load ar3k/AthrBT_0x01020200.dfu (-2).
I have a motherboard Gigabyte H110M-H DDR3 1.0 and a VGA Nvidia NVS 300 (It doesn't have HDMI connector, but after Debian installation, it shows audio HDMI), After installling Debian 8.4 Jessie amd64, I noticed the sound doesn't work, the motherboard audio codec is a Realtek ALC887, I don't have a HDMI Monitor, nor my VGA has HDMI Connector, but is a little bit strange that Debian recognizes HDMI Audio, if a run "# cat /proc/asound/cards" it shows me two audio cards, the HDMI and the ALC887 and if I run "# cat /procs/asound/modules", both cards are using snd_hda_intel. It is installed PulseAudio and Pavucontrol, I have checked if the audio was muted, but the sound volume is set to 100%, I don't know what to do anymore... I have a computer with a realtek codec too, but it's another model ALC665 or something like that, and the system is equipped with an ATI HD 5450 with HDMI Audio, I have checked the what modules the Debian is using, and both uses the snd_hda_intel, but the sound works with HDMI and Realtek Codec.

If I have this:

And I access a file in /database, does the system access the disk containing /database directly, or does it go to /dev/sda1 disk for access to /, then finds a pointer to /dev/sdb1 for /database and then moves on to the correct disk?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI decided to use Debian for my system at work, and while trying to set up the system this weekend I've run into a major problem trying to start X11. I'm not very experienced with Linux, so there is probably going to be some huge gaps in my knowledge as I've only used Ubuntu on my netbook with only a little terminal work, so bear with me. As background info I'm using a Radeon HD 4350 and an nForce 4 board with an Athlon XP 3200 ( I think). Yeah it's some ghetto hardware but it's good enough for what I need to do at work.
Anyway, I successfully install Debian using disc 1 here, and did the Advanced Installation. As a note, I installed Debian once using the standard install, but I was trying to run a few X commands that I only found out after reinstalling need to have X-server running, which it obviously isn't in single user mode. This shouldn't be an issue since I rewrote the partition table and am not using the drive for anything else. After the install finished and I restarted the computer, after the kernel loaded my screen shows wither "Not Support!" or "Input not supported." depending on which monitor I'm using. The first message comes from a cheap Japanese tv so the engrish is understandable, but from what I can tell it's the same error message for both. First guide I tried following was this one. I completed all the steps, and my xorg.conf is currently set at those values. For people who don't want to read through the whole thing:
