Debian Multimedia :: VirtualBox 4.0.2 Unsynced Disk Usage Analyzer And Df -h?
Jan 30, 2011I have a problem with my partitions being shrunk after VirtualBox PUEL 4.0.2 install. I tried VB OSE, loaded XP Pro and all necessary programs and realized it does not support sharing of folders. I then removed it and installed PUEL with XP Pro and all the same programs. The USB would not work in PUEL so I removed it and installed it as root to see if it would access the USB's. Halfway through the install it hung and gave me a space error.I cannot get the space back from whatever VB did. I deleted the .vdi's and all VM's and reinstalled VB PUEL to see if I could recover it. Nope. Then I tried GPARTED to try and reset whatever is reading the sizes incorrectly.sudo df -Th gives me:

Jan 24, 2011I'm wondering what my alternatives are when I lose power to the external hard drive where I have Debian installed. I realize that the best answer may be a battery backup UPS for the external hard drive. It seems that I recall that when a similar scenario happened on my SunOS Sparc workstation, I would simply hit [Stop-A] and then type in the "sync" command. I now have a laptop and am running Debian off of an external harddrive that has its own power supply. When I lose power, my laptop obviously continues to keep running but my session is essentially and understandably hosed because the main filesystem is not accessible. Gnome desktop goes away and I am thrown to the main console login. When power resumes, I cannot login to attempt a remount or anything. When I hit [ctrl-alt-del] thinking that that is less forceful than just holding down the main power on the laptop, I get cannot execute "/sbin/shutdown". Is there a [STOP-A] sync equilavent or some way or keyboard sequence to get to GRUB to issue a reboot command?

Which headers did you need to send to the server? What was the status code for the request? Which headers did the server return? Explain the purpose of each header.

Aug 4, 2010I installed Nagios on my Ubuntu 10.04 server using apt-get and when I accessed the web console, everything was OK. I made some changes to apache (creating some new virtual sites) and since then Nagios gives me a warning message for HTTP with the message, HTTP WARNING: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found. The sites that I created are working perfectly. I noticed that the attemps are 4/4. Does this need to be reset or does Nagios automatically reset that once it detects the issue is resolved?

Oct 23, 2009When I was looking for a tool that analyzes iptables log files I couldn't find anything suitable for me. So I wrote a python script that does the job. Now I'd like to have some feedback (questions, comments, bugs, wishes etc.). You have to set up some things manually. You need a MySQL table for example. And if you want to have reverse DNS (can be disabled) it is greatly recommended to install pdnsd as a local dns (caching) server for better results. (easy setup). If you do, it will take some time (depending on the log size) to receive the hostnames. The tool saves the DNS hostnames, so next time an identical IP is found, the lookup will be instant. All needed options can be configured in the config file or via command line parameter. A feature overview and more detailed information is included in the tarball README and INSTALL file. [URL]

Dec 21, 2010I have a problem on my installation of Ubuntu 10.10: it shows 0kb space remaining in nautilus. When I delete files (also out of Trash) it shows there is again space, but within minutes this free space is full again. When I look in Disk Usage Analyzer it says there is 140 GB available and it is impossible that the complete partition of 190 GB is full. But I cannot save or download anything anymore and the system is not very responsive. So it seems to act as if the disk is completely full.

Debian :: Gvfsd-http Leaves Many Connections Open
Feb 22, 2011Looking at the results of both `lsof | grep IPv4` and `netstat -tp` I noticed that I have a lot of connections open from a program called 'gvfsd-http'.
Using google, I found that this was a Filesystem something from Gnome, that would also be used If I drag something from my browser to my desktop.
Though I wonder, how I activated it, because I didn't do that...
After a bit of searching, I noticed that `screenshots.debian.net` uses the same IP address as the one noted (hades.car.gr).
PING screenshots.debian.net (78.46.20.5) 56(84) bytes of data.

For example, if i have both 000-default.conf and 000-default-ssl.conf pointing to mydomain.com, and don't want users who visit mydomain.com without specifically type the https-prefix to be redirected to the https-page - how to handle users using browserplugins such as https-everywhere etc?
Another option would be to create a subdomain ssl.mudomain.com and have users who want to reach the ssl site to have to type ssl. I have tested several things with https everywhere enabled in my own browser, and it seems really hard to make this working the way i want, in one way or another i always end up getting redirected to the ssl-site automatically.
The reason i need this to work is because i run one site that i don't care much about SSL, that is the "official" part of that site, and i also host some things for friends and family on the SSL-part. This would not have been a problem if it wasn't that i use self-signed certificates for my ssl-site and the major user become afraid when a certificate-warning pops up in their browser and therefor leave the site.
