I have used the information available at wiki.debian.org/iwlagn to install firmware etc for my Intel Pro Wireless 4965 card.According to the network applet the connection is good, but it only seems to work when my ethernet cable is plugged in.I get no connection without the cable in, even though clicking on "edit connections" showshat ethernet is shown as "device not managed".With the cable plugged in I can get emails. Debian :: NetworkManager Applet Shows No Network While Connected - Wired Network Device Not Managed

Oct 30, 2010

I'm running Squeeze and I'm looking 3 days now for a solution in some weird problem. The NetworkManager Applet shows that there isn't connection although I am connected. The icon has this small "x" and when mouseover it says "No network conncection". Moreover when left clicking it, it says

"Wired Network Device not managed"

While I was looking for the solution a came across this post by an Ubuntu developer who says:network-manager-applet displays the connectivity state of network-manager's managed interfaces not every interface. So the title "network manager says disconnected but is connected and working" is actually misleading. The interface is connected and working but not from network-manager's point of view since it is not managing the interface. Additionally, in Lucid now network-manager applet displays nothing now for non-managed interfaces so is less misleading. You can check to see whether or not an interface is managed by network-manager by using the command line too nm-tool. You'll see "State: unmanaged" for unmanaged interfaces.

Fedora Networking :: Eth0 No Longer Managed In NM - Device Not Managed ?

Nov 3, 2010

I use my T61 both wireless and in the dock, where I switch to the wired connection. After the latest round of updates, I seem to have lost the ability to switch to the wired network. When I turn the laptop on, I see it connect to the wireless network, but when I left click on the tray icon under Wired Network is says Device not managed. I have not made any changes to anything in the last couple weeks, besides some updates. How do I go about getting the wired network back in there?I tried to add eth0 back into System - Preferences - Network Connections, but whenever I try and add eth0, but it still says Device not managed.

Debian :: Cannot Edit VPN Connections As A User

Aug 24, 2015

I am trying to add an OpenVPN connection from the Network Connections GUI. The problem is everything is greyed out when I am logged on as a user. When I log in the GUI as root I can create the OpenVPN connection no problems. The problem with that is the option to use my newly created VPN connect does not appear when I log back into my user. I have tried adding my user into the sudoers file to no avail.

How can I give my user privileges to add OpenVPN connections?

Ubuntu :: Connections Not Shown In Notification Area

Mar 9, 2011

My dad has an older netbook that I installed Ubuntu 10.10 to, but he complained that it was too clunky. So I did what any good son would do and installed GNOME and Ubuntu themes on top of the minimal version of Ubuntu 10.10.It does run much faster, but I have a small problem with the Notification Area: nm-applet IS running.Notification Area is added to my panel, and in view.I have two interfaces, one wired, one wireless, both function correctly (both manually configured with gedit)

Neither one of the aforementioned interfaces are being displayed in the Notification Area, and my dad is not familiar with Ubuntu or any of the commands, so this is really a must-have for him.

Debian Hardware :: Ethernet Device Appears And Disappears

Mar 12, 2010

Brand new Acer laptop | Intel chipset
Ethernet controller: Attansic Technology Corp. Device 1063 (rev c0)

During this week, I installed Debian twice on this system using NetInst, connected trough ethernet. Yesterday, I noticed the ethernet controller wasn't listed by lspci. I restarted, it appeared but didn't work. I turned off the system, started it a bit later and the device worked normally. This odd behavior has happened during the last twenty four hours. The ethernet controller appears and disappears. I enabled the "Boot from LAN" BIOS option to check the availability of the device right upon start and I'd say there's a 50% chance that it doesn't appear. I posted this message connected through the ethernet device.

I guess I should return the laptop because of this problem but I know very little about hardware and I wanted to ask first.

Debian Hardware :: Connecting To Device With Ethernet Card

Mar 18, 2011

I just did a fresh install of Squeeze with a KDE desktop on my computer. I use this computer to run an instrument in my lab. The instrument is connected to my computer through an ethernet card. Since my reinstall I cannot figure out how to get my computer and instrument communicating again. I'm guessing that I need to somehow tell my computer to connect to the device, but I don't know how. Here is my interface configuration:

[Code].....

I think my instrument is connected to eth2, which does not show any inet addr or Bcast ip, so I'm guessing that is a problem. How do I fix this?

OpenSUSE Network :: Using WiFi And Ethernet Connections

Feb 5, 2011

I've been searching for a couple of hours and have not found any threads that solve my situation... hope I'm not repeating something here.

Setup: Notebook with openSUSE 11.2 using KDE 4. Using Network Manager to manage network connection (although I've tried configuring this using ifup as well with no luck).

I need to be able to connect to client networks via a network cable (Ethernet) and connect to the internet via my MiFi 2200 Mobile WiFi. Both cards/connections are active with the following:

I have no problem mounting drives from the client's network. But, can not reach the internet. If I disconnect the ethernet cable, the browser will immediately connect to the internet and load web pages.

I'm assuming the ethernet connection is taking precedence over the wireless connection?

I can't imagine that there is not a way to set this up. If Windows can do it, I'm sure openSUSE can!

ifconfig gives this:

Debian :: Wireless Has Not Been Managed

I am trying out a Debian system on my at home desktop. The way that the desktop connects to the internet is via a wireless card. The installation went fine to my knowledge, I used a CD and the installation even used the wireless internet (albeit slowly) to download the needed packages to complete installation. Now when I try to connect to the wireless network Network Manager says that Wireless Networks are "not managed." I feel like I'm probably missing something either really simple and silly or something really big requiring a re-installation. Either way I can't even find an instance of this happening to someone else's system.

Ubuntu :: Sound: Mic Doesn't Work - Audio Input Level Graphically Shown In Sound Preferences Shows No Fluctuations In Sound

Aug 3, 2010

I was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.

Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.
