I know how to set up a keyboard shortcut to open a program like libreoffice. Is there a way to make another keyboard shortcut to open direct a libreoffice file (.odt, .odb, etc).
I am unable to open .rar file on debian lenny. unrar-free has been installed but it does not open the .rar file. Is there another software i need to install?
i will try to keep this post short and to the point. i am currently running debian with kde and i am trying to edit /etc/apt/sources.list. i know that this file needs to be opened as root for the changes to it to be saved, so what im doing (in konsole) is:
concreteabstract@debian:~$: su Password: root@debian: /home/concreteabstract# kwrite /etc/apt/sources.list
but that doesn't work, and the message i get is:
No protocol specified kwrite: cannot connect to X server :0.0
Peazip is a software at 32 bit.I have installed ia32libs but:$ ./peazip./peazip: error while loading shared libraries: libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.I have already installed libgtk2.0-0.
When I first installed VMWare Workstation and Player everything ran great. I guess after a system restart things started to get buggy. When trying to load my virtual machine I get the following error:
Could not open /dev/vmmon: No such file or directory.make sure that the kernel module `vmmon' is loaded.Failed to initialize monitor device. Unable to change virtual machine power state: Cannot find a valid peer process to connect to I have tried running as root, through terminal, and reinstalling. The window still shows up eventually.
Since I installed my new debian squeeze system with gnome 2.30.2 I got problems with totem and totem-xine application.
Problem 1: The file asociation for .avi does always open totem! I changed the .avi file asociation unter -> preferences -> "preferred applications" for example to vlc... but no chance it always open the totem player. I looked also in the gnome configuration tool (gconf) and there is the file asociaton set on vlc, but he still opens totem.
Problem 2: All .avi files with video content I cannot see the video and I hear only the audio stream. If I open the video I got a popup with the message that the codec is not installed, then I click on search codecs and totem search for it and does not found anything. I have the codec installed because I see it in avidemux... - If I install only totem I install also all gstreamer packages ... - If I install totem-xine I install all xine plugins packackages etc ... - If I use vlc or mplayer all works fine ... - If I start totem over a console shell and I open the video, I get no error message in the shell.
I did a fresh install of debian testing, changed to sid and did a dist-upgrade. Downloaded firefox 3.6 and placed it in my home directory. When I try to run it, I get the following: Code: ..... Whats missing? I've also changed ownership of the file to me but i get the same error.
I am having a problem installing a game that is a .bin file. I have looked through various forums, and on Google, but can only find how to install .exe through emulation, open .zip, and other formats. I am using Dreamlinux Xfce desktop (Which to my understanding is Debian based). I pretty much have to face the fact can't figure out s**t on here.
I have tried running it from the terminal in these ways:
And some command I came across- $ Chmod (there was more to this command line but I forget it, found it on google, it ends with: +1 run)
I don't really grasp alot of the commands (I can look up DIR, run files, ya know ... simple stuff) and have spent most of the time just setting my OS to work, and this .bin is my first shot at an install...
I have a problem with open file limit. The software I'm installing claims "Open file limit (ulimit -H -n) too low (1014), need at least 6311" but when I check the linit I get the following
Code: # uname -a Linux server 2.6.32-5-amd64 #1 SMP Mon Mar 7 21:35:22 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux
In the kde realm, with the dolphin file browser, I can open a terminal in whatever folder is in the gui by using the shift and f4 keys. I'd like to be able to accomplish the same in gnome with the nautilus file browser but can't figure out how to do same. So far I have to open a terminal and then cd to the desired folder. Or do I have to use some other file browser and which one?
I've installed pulseaudio on my server running squeeze using this guide [URL], but i don't like it and would like to remove it. I tried uninstalling all the packages and deleting the /etc/asound.conf file, now it seems like pulseaudio is gone but alsa seems to be broken. When i run alsamixer i get the following error:
cannot open mixer: No such file or directory When try to play audio using aplay i get the following error:
I install Debian on a Power book g3 and i need the right click function. I try mouseemu but it give me an error: open: No such file or directory No uinput device found! Make sure the uinput module is loaded or CONFIG_INPUT_UINPUT is compiled in kernel. if there are other way for the right click function?
I'm hoping someone can help me. I upgraded my server from Lenny to Squeeze this afternoon following the release notes at http://www.debian.org I had no issues and everything is still running. I then installed Sqeeze via the Net Install disc into a virtual machine for some testing. Once the install was complete I found that apt was not working. It turned out the sources file was blank. I manually added the official repos and did an update. There were no new packages for installation.
Now, after a reboot, I get the Grub error: error: ELF header smaller than expected Entering rescue mode... grub rescue>
I have no idea why this happened because I've not changed grub, just played around with apt. Has anybody any idea why apt had a blank sources file and grub is now failing?
I just installed debian from debian-live-8.2.0-amd64-standard+nonfree.iso and after installation, which finished without problems, I cannot boot the system. I get the error:
Code: Select allfile '/boot/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod not found
From grub-rescue via ls command I see that I don't have the i386-pc folder inside /boot/grub. I have only two files: unicode.pf2 and grub.cfg
I have a new installation. I try to boot and instead of my grub menu, I get "error: file not found" and am dropped into the rescue prompt. I have just a standard "Desktop" installation. I installed from the 5.05 net install cd. I installed grub to the MBR.
partitions are: hd0,2 is / hd0,5 is swap entering the "set" command results in: prefix=(hd0,2)/boot/grub root=hd0,2 [Code]...
I have some errors when run the mount -all command: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdc5, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so Failed to open /proc/filesystems: No such file or directory
I make all as mentioned in this guide [URL] and the MediaTomb working with the script but when I try to open .mkv file PS3 says that "The data type is not supported" in same time it shows the files in the menu normally and marked it unsupported thumbnail after I try to play it.
I have XP and win 7. I want to triple boot with Debian. When I install, grub finds win 7 and XP and says everything should be fine, but then when I boot, only debian appears. This was fixed by doing update-grub2 after logging in.Now, I have win 7 bootloader as an option. However, when I boot into XP, and then reboot, grub disappers. he screen just says welcome to grub and then a blinking cursor.
When I open an open office document from an NFS share it always opens as readonly. This was a problem I had on Arch linux and the fix was to change the locking options in the soffice script but I've tried that fix here and it doesn't work. I've seen a lot of discussions but they all go back to changing the locking options in soffice, has anyone got any alternative fixes or one that definitely works with locking?
I gave sda1-2 for windows and sda 3-4-5 on an extended partition for my linux OS. I installed ubuntu on sda 7 (when I go into disk utilities it shows up as sda 7 idk why) alongside another ubuntu on sda 5 ( EXTENDEDPARTITION : sda 5-6-7 ) so I could remove mandriva bootloader.Since I did, I removed ubuntu (sda 7) since it wasn't necessary but after it gave me the grub file not found.Obviously yes, since GRUB was installed from sda 7 but i have another grub.conf on sda 5 and I would like to know how to change the path of the grub reader to sda 5? or must I install all over again de grub loader?
I installed Open Office 4 on Debian 8 but when I run the program I get this error message.
root@localhost:/home/paul# openoffice4 No protocol specified No protocol specified /opt/openoffice4/program/soffice.bin X11 error: Can't open display: Set DISPLAY environment variable, use -display option or check permissions of your X-Server (See "man X" resp. "man xhost" for details)
Open Office works fine when I run the command "startx" in the Konsole but so far I haven't been able to configure it.
I work for a company that makes portable devices running Linux and I was recently asked to make the underlying file system read-only for "security" purposes. Since the distribution is based on LinuxFromScratch, I know that very little writing happens at run time. So, even if the device runs on a usb flash device, I doubt that putting the root file system RO will be that beneficial. I am actually more concerned about a process actually breaking because it cannot open a file in RW mode than a process going rogue and filling the root file system with log files, etc. I'd really like to ear what kind of advantages disadvantages there really is with read-only file-systems.
there are number of threads floating on installation of ns2..however i am unable to get it on my 64 bit system ns: error while loading shared libraries: libotcl.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
