Everything went fine, even the install part.After the 1st boot, problems started. I've never seen so much errors after a first install and probably they are all reported.

After that, installed a minimal xserver-xorg-core, xserver-xorg-video-radeon and kde-plasma-desktop.
I'm unable to use the newly DE environment, the screen just freezes, I'm guessing because of the udev error.

I'm running Debian Wheezy x-86 32 bit Kernel 2.6.38-2-686 and I have encountered a problem I'm hoping to get some help with. All help would be greatly appreciated as researching this issue has not led to any concrete information. After a reboot or similar, the process will go through the boot sequence including giving me the option of what kernel to run either 2.6.32 or 2.6.38 and starting module's as well as performing POST and then when the logon screen should appear I'm presented with a flashing cursor. I can boot into saftey mode and the CLI, but not being very efficent with Bash and the CLI I'm not sure where to go or what to do.
I have installed Debian Jessie 8.0.3 64-bit net install on a MSI CX620. Installation went fine but trying to boot it up the first time nothing but a black screen shows up. I've tried:
Holding shift on startup - Nothing
Press down all keys - Not much, only ctrl+alt+delete makes the screen turn off and then on again.
I'm thinking that I had secure boot on which I now after installation see could be a problem, but I didn't think it would be a problem as I could just go into bios and turn it off, but seeing now that I can't even go into bios it may be a problem.
I've just installed Debian Wheezy on my old Toshiba Satellite A10 (Intel celeron 2.20 GHz, 1GB Ram, 30 GB hard drive) and tried to connect to my home wifi network with a usb wifi adapter (Hamlet HNWU254G). lsusb in terminal says it is Ralink RT2501. Ethernet worked fine, so I installed firmware-ralink package, the adapter was recognized and I was able to connect.
However, I heard quite frequently a strange whistle and realized it came from the usb wifi adapter; it also got very very hot. Other strange thing: the computer some times freezes: screen flickering, loss of control of mouse and keyboard, need to shut down with power button.
At first I thought it was the video card not being powerful enough for Gnome (even classic), but then I installed Xfce4 and nothing changed. Instead, when working offline, freezes happen less frequently (but still happen).
I've tried the usb adapter on another laptop with wheezy: it gets hot, but there are no whistles and freezes.
I'm using Debian 7.8 Wheezy amd64, Gnome classic session. Laptop ASUS F551MAV, Intel HD Graphics (Integrated GPU), xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.19.0-6, firmware-linux-free 3.2
Sometimes, after inactivity, the screen turns black, not allowing me to see login screen. If I press CTRL+ALT+F1 (or F2,F3,Fn) nothing happens. The computer is still responsive, as I can reboot it through key shortcuts.
I have search in almost all logs in /var/log, without any information about the cause of the error. The time I was away from computer was between +- 18:10-18:22

It is not the first time that this is happens. It already happened a few times, that when I'm away, the screen is simply blocked.
i have an installation of wheezy 7.8 i think. i was facing difficulties in read of matroska video. therefore have decided to installer gstreamer1.0 wich should be resolve my problem. i have added the backports repository in apt sources list. after an apt-get update i launch apt-get install gstreamer1.0 . i have noticed it have starting downloading more file than it needs i concluded that it was a upgrade or something like because the kernel was also updated. after the the packet downloading it has started the installation with some errors related to LOCALE LCC. it has stopped and restarted some services wich is normal. i have closed all others apps and restarted. Here start the hell. after the restart i have passed the kde login screen and after BLACK SCREEN with mouse working.
Alt+F2 don't open the krunner
What i have tried? i have rename the /home/jefcolbi/.cache and back it again, rename /home/jefcolbi/.kde and back it again. next i have tried to check the Xorg config file. i created a new one with X -configure, modified it to feet my system configuration this does not resolve the problem but add another the keyboard is not working in graphical mode.

I have just installed Debian Wheezy on an E6XX Intel platform and after loading ramdisk, the screen goes black and I cannot use the system.
*) In the beginning, I tried to pass "nomodeset" in Grub, but after loading ramdisk, it tries to change screen's resolution and it goes blank. *) gma500 output in dmesg can be seen in [1] at the bottom of this page. *) I tried passing "GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480 GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=640x480" + update-grub, but it keeps failing. *) I examined EDI's monitor output through "sudo get-edid |sudo parse-edid" (see [2] below), it seems that it is not possible to get the EDID information from the screen correctly. However, I am using this screen with xrandr with Debian Squeeze and I have no problems.

I decided to update all the software on my computer. Fortunately, it upgraded kernel version 3.14 to 3.16. I was happy to learn that suspend now worked on my laptop by calling pm-suspend, but it did not worked by closing the lid. So I search and found on debian's website that installing systemd and adding some config lines in /etc/systemd/logind.conf would sove the issue. So I followed the procedure and did like instructed, to end up with a computer that boots on black screen.
The last verbrose line I see on boot up is "kvm disabled by bios" and then it shutdown down the screen. The computer works, as I can login and shutdown by doing those operation blindly.
I tried removing systemd but it still does not work. If I use the old kernel 3.14 I can boot without any problem, but if I use kernel 3.16, I boot to a black screen. I remember successfully booting in 3.16 before installing systemd.
I run a live cd I downloaded, right? Everything goes fine - it installs with no real issues whatsoever, when all of a sudden after the install it boots to nothing but the famous black screen with a white, blinking dash.So, what do I do? I dont want openjdk packages on my system, in Kubuntu I had a few troubles with them trying to make SqlDeveloper to work around. So this is what I see after a java -version:

I've been uninstalling openjdk from synaptic and with other few commands on the terminal so far and I think I probably broke it. I have no /usr/lib/jvm folder only /usr/lib/java/jdk1.8.0_45.But everytime I wish to start up Eclipse it shows the logo for a few seconds and that's it.... never gets opened. And in /usr/bin$ I only have this symbolic link....

I have tried to find a solution about issues installing octave 4 from binaries. I can not use octave from the repository as it is old for my studies.
I know from a myriad of posts on these forums that Ubuntu is more bleeding edge than Debian Testing. Since, Debian'w own kernel is misbehaving rejecting my video chip (i915), I am tempted to install Ubuntu's kernel in Wheeze.
So, the golden question is: Is it logical and feasible to install Ubuntu's kernel in Wheezy? Wheezy's kernel is 2.6.38.
The install auto-config has always worked for me. On this laptop, I needed some firmware, however. I think I've got the firmware installed, but I now need to get the wireless set up. The post-install network configuration tools I've seen thus far are intimidating, unlike the simple during-install config.
I have a laptop primarily used for a client work. It is running Debian Wheezy, and wish to keep it intact in case I need to do more work for client.
I would like to install Ubuntu 14.04 alongside Debian, and use Ubuntu as a bit of a play/experiment area, etc... HD has lots of space (600GB free), and as far as I can tell Grub is installed in MBR.
I did some searches, and from what I can tell, it sounds like I can just install Ubuntu from ISO file, specify how much space to use (say 400GB), and that's it. This sounds almost too easy. Once I install and restart machine, will there be selection for what Distro to boot.
I have just installed Wheezy after repartitioning and had to set up my sources list myself as (most of it) was not done for me. I have just added the main official repository,security updates and the multimedia repository. To be honest I'm not sure if any of them are working when I do an update in aptitude, I think the multimedia one might be. The CD ROM isn't even working despite the fact I have done apt-cdrom add.I am getting the following when run aptitude update:

Some years ago, Alan Baird got an award from Sun Micro for developing a set of free format templates called Screenwright for Open Office. Including both US & A4, as well as radio, sitcom, theatre and movies; these have now been ported to Libre Office under Creative Commons usage. [URL] ....
I believe these should work well and fairly fast on the new Pi, as most spec scripts are vastly more white space than word count.
There is a minor problem tho, which first came up with 'New Courier' on Windows machines. The 'page per minute' rule is still important enough that the different line/page length spacing of 'Courier-like' fonts is unacceptable in a submission.
The standard Courier font can be had from [URL] ....
That font set is a zip file which should be extracted and then the 3 fonts are to be dragged into the Windows fonts directory.
So how exactly do I do that with Rasperian Wheezy? Do I extract on the Pi or on the windows machine? Are fonts like most documents, readable on any distro, or do they need to be converted somehow?
So the other day I installed Debian Wheezy on my Sun Blade 150. While the OS is installed fine, all the webkit based browsers continuously crash after a few pages. So, I tried to download IceWeasel since it wasn't installed when I tried installing Debain off the DVD. The only problem is, it won't install as the Xulrunner version it requests is xulrunner-24.0_24.5.0esr-1~deb7u1_sparc, however the only version available on the repositories is newer. Is there any way to get the older xulrunner version, or is there going to be a fix for IceWeasel soon on Sparc?

I love using wheezy but i keep having to take my computer downstairs to hook it up to router through ethernet, i need it to connect through wifi and stay connected.
heres my problem, if i use live image and connect to network its fine but during installation process it gets to the network configuration, it will keep disconnecting at dhcp and if i try and continue it gives me the error packages broken due to it not staying connected.

if i try and just do a net install then it doesnt show my wifi network.
it uses in both cases ar93xx atheros driver for installing, i just need to know how i can try and keep a stable connection over wifi so it can install over wifi so i dont have to keep taking pc downstairs to install it.

I have a VIA Epia M 5000 system with 2 western digital 1TB NAS SATA drives connected through SATA<->IDE adapter. Everything installs and writes as expected except... grub. It never boots, after a message 'Grub loading' I always get 'error: no such disk'. I've tried numerous times and has been attemping to fix the issue for the past 2 days.

update-grub2 in rescue mode generates grub.cfg with SET root=/mduuid/UUID_OF_SDA1 then after that there's search --no-floppy etc --set root=/mduuid/UUID_OF_MD0
I'm writing this from memory but simply the two uuids are different. Is this correct? I get those UUIDs to compare from blkid. All partitions are marked as bootable. grub-install /dev/sda and grub-install /dev/sdb produces no errors. grub-install /dev/md0 does not work, complains about superblocks or something similar.
Grub.cfg file contains insmod raid mdraid1x and similar lines, so that should be ok. Grub drops to rescue mode with message error: no such disk. Not device, but disk. Google finds many results for 'no such device' error, but I am not getting that error. 'ls' produces (hd0) (hd0,msdos1) (hd1) (hd1,msdos1) ls ANY_VALID_PATH produces empty newline being printed, nothing more.
setting prefixes manually does not work, with error message 'error: file not found'. ls (hd0,msdos1)/boot/grub also produces empty line being printed. Rescue CD and auto-assemble of md0 and md1 works, the files are there, everything okay, except grub.
I am trying to install Debian wheezy 7.6 stable, i made a bootable pen drive with netinst but when it arrives the select and install software part i got a error that i cant know what error is because it does not show its name. Just appear a red screen saying that a part in installation fails: Select and install software. I guess that this error is when it is installing tasksel.
anyway the reason for my posti downloaded a network install of wheezypartitioned and loaded wheezy on to a dell latitude d600now after installation the keyboard and mouse ( touchpad or nipple ) do not functionsince this inconvenience i have been plugging in a usb keyboard and mouse at the graphical login then using them to work the laptopAfter a reboot the usb peripherals do need to be uplugged and reconnected otherwise they also do not functioni am obviously missing something vital here but i am not sure where to start, kernel 2.6.38.2-686 i have loaded the non-free repos added the various firmware files etc. to get wireless and bluetooth to functionbut the keyboard and mouse has me stumped i have searched the forum and google but haven't come across anyone with the same issue.Some forum suggestions have been to reconfigure xorg.conf but this does not exist on this installevdev - the event driver is thereudev - the kernel device manager is also there
Has anyone had any luck in trying to install wheezy (latest testing snapshot available) on any system with either a AMD/ATI 68xx or 69xx card?All goes well in the install, but on reboot, all that is seen is a "_" and no text, and it hard locks.I am pretty sure this is a conflict with the video card drivers that get installed by default (and which should be blacklisted), but I have no idea how to fix it.The recovery mode don't work either, it is the same "_" with no text, and it ends up hard locking. There is no chance at getting access to a console at all.

Symptoms: When I click on something, say Evolution or Empathy or Maps, about 1 in 5 times the screen will freeze and I have to switch the computer off and on again.
I had this problem with Wheezy and could not resolve it. In the past week I have installed Jessie 32bit and then Jessie 64bit and I get the same problem.
On downloading my copies of Jessie I have verified the md5 and sha.
