Debian Installation :: Wheezy Install 7.8.0 - Cannot Stay Connected Through WiFi
Apr 2, 2015
I love using wheezy but i keep having to take my computer downstairs to hook it up to router through ethernet, i need it to connect through wifi and stay connected.
heres my problem, if i use live image and connect to network its fine but during installation process it gets to the network configuration, it will keep disconnecting at dhcp and if i try and continue it gives me the error packages broken due to it not staying connected.
MY WIFI CARD IS A TP-LINK WDN 4800
if i try and just do a net install then it doesnt show my wifi network.
it uses in both cases ar93xx atheros driver for installing, i just need to know how i can try and keep a stable connection over wifi so it can install over wifi so i dont have to keep taking pc downstairs to install it.
i done something that stopped me being able to login into wheezy i was left at black screen with blinking command line, i have reverted to mint debian until i can get a stable connection over wifi to install wheezy again.

Loaded Debian Jessie (x64) and when adding printers, can see my printer which attached ok to my RaspberryPi and can print thru it, but can not attach to my Jessie box. If it adds, it can't see it or reports printer is busy, tried every config I could find on the web. Previous versions of Debian I loaded the canon print driver separately and loaded the cnij(?) filter. Do I still have to do that? Is there a trick to getting a network canon to work?

I use a 'wifi hotspot' provided by my mobile (android) phone for internet/email and to connect to my wifi capable HP p1102w printer. Installation and use of the printer worked perfectly until I bought a new phone, again android with 'wifi hotspot' capability. The wifi connection on my new phone works fine for internet and email but it totally fails to detect my printer.
I have tried to detect and connect to the printer using system-config-printer and using the HP utility hp-setup. Both fail to detect the printer on the 'new' wifi network.
The old network connection which detects the printer as expected gives the following output:
Code: Select allpat@debian:~$ ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 6c:3b:e5:91:ec:0c

The new (problematic) network connection which fails to detect the printer gives the following output:
Code: Select allpat@debian:~$ ifconfig

I have a laptop primarily used for a client work. It is running Debian Wheezy, and wish to keep it intact in case I need to do more work for client.
I would like to install Ubuntu 14.04 alongside Debian, and use Ubuntu as a bit of a play/experiment area, etc... HD has lots of space (600GB free), and as far as I can tell Grub is installed in MBR.
I did some searches, and from what I can tell, it sounds like I can just install Ubuntu from ISO file, specify how much space to use (say 400GB), and that's it. This sounds almost too easy. Once I install and restart machine, will there be selection for what Distro to boot.

I have just installed Wheezy after repartitioning and had to set up my sources list myself as (most of it) was not done for me. I have just added the main official repository, security updates and the multimedia repository. To be honest I'm not sure if any of them are working when I do an update in aptitude, I think the multimedia one might be. The CD ROM isn't even working despite the fact I have done apt-cdrom add.I am getting the following when run aptitude update:
Ign cdrom://[Debian GNU/Linux testing _Wheezy_ - Official Snapshot i386 CD Binary-1 20110328-05:16] wheezy InRelease
Ign cdrom://[Debian GNU/Linux testing _Wheezy_ - Official Snapshot i386 CD Binary-1

I've just installed Debian Wheezy on my old Toshiba Satellite A10 (Intel celeron 2.20 GHz, 1GB Ram, 30 GB hard drive) and tried to connect to my home wifi network with a usb wifi adapter (Hamlet HNWU254G). lsusb in terminal says it is Ralink RT2501. Ethernet worked fine, so I installed firmware-ralink package, the adapter was recognized and I was able to connect.
However, I heard quite frequently a strange whistle and realized it came from the usb wifi adapter; it also got very very hot. Other strange thing: the computer some times freezes: screen flickering, loss of control of mouse and keyboard, need to shut down with power button.
At first I thought it was the video card not being powerful enough for Gnome (even classic), but then I installed Xfce4 and nothing changed. Instead, when working offline, freezes happen less frequently (but still happen).
I've tried the usb adapter on another laptop with wheezy: it gets hot, but there are no whistles and freezes.

I have a VIA Epia M 5000 system with 2 western digital 1TB NAS SATA drives connected through SATA<->IDE adapter. Everything installs and writes as expected except... grub. It never boots, after a message 'Grub loading' I always get 'error: no such disk'. I've tried numerous times and has been attemping to fix the issue for the past 2 days.
/dev/sda
0.999TB 0xfd linux raid autodetect partition
1GB 0xfd linux raid autodetect, logical partition
/dev/sdb exactly the same
0.999TB 0xfd linux raid autodetect partition
1GB 0xfd linux raid autodetect
/dev/md0
RAID1 of /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1
marked as ext4, boot point /
/dev/md1
RAID1 of /dev/sda5 and /dev/sdb5
marked as swap
update-grub2 in rescue mode generates grub.cfg with SET root=/mduuid/UUID_OF_SDA1
then after that there's search --no-floppy etc --set root=/mduuid/UUID_OF_MD0
I'm writing this from memory but simply the two uuids are different. Is this correct? I get those UUIDs to compare from blkid. All partitions are marked as bootable. grub-install /dev/sda and grub-install /dev/sdb produces no errors. grub-install /dev/md0 does not work, complains about superblocks or something similar.
Grub.cfg file contains insmod raid mdraid1x and similar lines, so that should be ok. Grub drops to rescue mode with message error: no such disk. Not device, but disk. Google finds many results for 'no such device' error, but I am not getting that error. 'ls' produces
(hd0) (hd0,msdos1) (hd1) (hd1,msdos1) ls ANY_VALID_PATH produces empty newline being printed, nothing more.
setting prefixes manually does not work, with error message 'error: file not found'. ls (hd0,msdos1)/boot/grub also produces empty line being printed. Rescue CD and auto-assemble of md0 and md1 works, the files are there, everything okay, except grub.

Has anyone had any luck in trying to install wheezy (latest testing snapshot available) on any system with either a AMD/ATI 68xx or 69xx card? All goes well in the install, but on reboot, all that is seen is a "_" and no text, and it hard locks.I am pretty sure this is a conflict with the video card drivers that get installed by default (and which should be blacklisted), but I have no idea how to fix it.The recovery mode don't work either, it is the same "_" with no text, and it ends up hard locking. There is no chance at getting access to a console at all.

I have installed network controller driver(iwlwifi) in debian jessie and connected to wifi, but I could not connect to any web sites. I installed network-tools and input "iwconfig" it did show a wlan0 there.
Then I opened resolv.conf ,but there were 2 resolv.conf in my /etc,one contains "search lan nameserver 192.168.199.1",one contains "nameserver 8.8.8.8 nameserver 8.8.4.4".
I changed the content of the first one to 8.8.8.8 and restart networking, but I still could not open pages with wireless network.
And I open the first one again, and it changed back to 192.168.199.1,and an extra line "domain lan"above the line"search lan".

I am very new to the wonderful world of Linux and from what I've read about and my limited experience (approx. 3 hrs) I like it; but I'm having one problem that I need to get fixed: I'm dual booting currently with W7 (boo) only because I can't get my internet to stay connected(?) for extended periods of time using F15.
When I first installed F15, everything went smoothly, it asked me for my PW for the wireless internet and it said that it was connected. After I loaded Firefox for the first time, thinking to myself "Awesome, it set itself up completely and is running perfectly) I was let down. On my laptop I have Quickbuttons. Touch sensitive buttons above my F-keys (incase you didn't know what I was referring to. When I connect to the internet, with my wireless card on, I can successfully load 1 internet page. Halfway though the page load, the internet light/button starts to flash repeatedly on/off rapidly. Internet connectivity seems to have stopped at this point as I can not load another internet page or use the chat window any more. If I disconnect from my internet and reconnect, everything works fine for 1 more internet page then back to flashing and no more connectivity.
If I restart using the Windows OS, everything works fine and my desktop is working normally as well, so it must be something with F15. What do I need to do in order to get the internet card to work continuously? What am I missing? Please remember, I'm very new to this and all the troubleshooting web pages that I've found thus far are talking WAY above my head.

I am running a dual-boot with Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7 and I can't stay connected to the internet with Ubuntu, but Windows does. My router is a D-Link GamerLounge DGL-4500. I have wireless internet access for about 10 seconds but then it drops. Access to the router doesn't go away though. Other computers can connect to it just fine, and my computer (Toshiba Satellite A505) has connected to every other one I've tried on. I can still log in to it and change settings and all that, but I can't access the internet through it. I also can't ping the router.

I just installed Debian with the latest testing iso, and I'm having problems connecting to the web via browser. I can ping hostnames (i.e. google.com, debian.org, etc.) from the terminal and it resolves just fine, but if I try to load a page from Iceweasel or Epiphany it says the page won't load because it can't resolve the hostname. Can someone tell me what I'm missing?the detail that I'm running amd64. I've checked iptables and found no entries, and for good measure I flushed it to be certain. I also checked resolv.conf but that looked normal, just a nameserver entry pointing to my home router. I'm new to Debian, but have used Linux for years, and I'm genuinely stumped. I'm sure the solution will smack me in the head for its simplicity, but nonetheless I need at least a shove in the right direction.

I am running Ubuntu 10.10 on a Dell Dimension 4700 desktop computer. I just upgraded to 10.10 from the previous version after getting my D-Link wireless adapter back after loaning it out. My internet now won't stay connected. I can connect when I firstrn on the computer, with after 2-5 minutes it drops the connection and gives me the "Wireless Network Authentication Required" prompt. It won't connect again without unplugging the adapter and plugging it back in.I borrowed a Belkin wirelss adapter to try it, and it does the exact same thing. PLEASE can someone help me, I really need the internet up on the computer(Also, when I first got the adapter-- while running the old version of Ubuntu-- it would not recognize or connect at all and I spent 4 hours messing with drivers and settings to get it to work, which it did flawlessly. Until I upgraded.)

I have Ubuntu 10.10 on a Toshiba satellite L300 with an Atheros AR5001 wireless network card. I can get the computer to see the network but it wont persist, it keeps going offline or asking to be re connected. Also Firefox will not find the internet even if the wireless icon shows the wireless network is alive.I can use the laptop for the internet if I plug in the LAN cable but have no luck with the wireless. Security for the modem is using WPA&WPA2 and it will connect according to the icon in the title bar for the wireless network.
I have tried the Atheros site for a driver but had no luck finding one. Not even sure if that is what I need to do.

However the moment I open Firefox I am no longer on line. Its not important to discussion, but I am not a avid windows fan and at 80 Linux is my hobby having experienced 8-10 distros. So I hope someone out there has the patience to advise me. When I turn on the computer, it connects to wireless automatically. That's good. But it doesn't stay connected very long. Especially if I turn on a p2p program or make a call through messenger. Then I get disconnected suddenly and if I want to connect again it doesn't work anymore. Network - You are now disconnected and that's it. Every time it happens I restart the system. I use an Acer Aspire 5738z laptop.

having trouble with my asus 1000 rt2860 wireless n card and WPA/PSK/WPA2 connections. Funky thing is it worked in the 2.26.32-21 kernel (iwconfig shows ra0 as the wireless interface), but when the kernel was updated and pushed through in the ubuntu updates to 2.26.32-22 the wireless card won't stay connected and iwconfig says wlan0 is the interface. I checked the proprietary drivers and they said that the driver for my card was active, but not in use. How do I use the ra0 instead of wlan0?
how do i use the driver that's listed as not being used? I'm having to boot up lucid with the older kernel now, it's annoying, lots of programs aren't running as expected as a result. I've tried manually installing the driver from the RaLink website as detailed in many other posts concerning this wireless card. It seems to work for some people, but not with me.

Is there any way to make sure during installation that GRUB gets configured to stay in character mode only?

I dont want openjdk packages on my system, in Kubuntu I had a few troubles with them trying to make SqlDeveloper to work around. So this is what I see after a java -version:
Code: Select alledgardo@debian:~$ java -version
java version "1.8.0_45"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_45-b14)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.45-b02, mixed mode)
edgardo@debian:~$
I've been uninstalling openjdk from synaptic and with other few commands on the terminal so far and I think I probably broke it. I have no /usr/lib/jvm folder only /usr/lib/java/jdk1.8.0_45.But everytime I wish to start up Eclipse it shows the logo for a few seconds and that's it.... never gets opened. And in /usr/bin$ I only have this symbolic link....
Code: Select alllrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 abr 19 18:57 java -> /etc/alternatives/java
I've tried different tutorials I found surfing the web but none of 'em seem to work.
