I have a netbook running squeeze + lxde. Every time I boot, I have to open alsamixer and turn on my speaker channel. Master and PCM are both enabled and at 100%, as is everything relating to the mic. Speaker just refuses to work with me though.

The system is squeeze amd64 and a toshiba tc655 notebook. Some relevant info:

My first idea was to try some different model names when loading the snd_hda_intel module, but after checking the alsa documentation unfortunately i didn't found this particular codec in it. Then after a few hours of lmgtfy.com sessions came the enlightenment. I found something interesting which actually turned out to fix this problem. Here it is: [URL].
My only glitch with Ubuntu, which runs flawlessly on this beast, otherwise.I have spent more than 50 hours on this problem. In my case, inserting headphone jack doesn't mute internal speakers. There is sound in the headphone though.alsamixer ot gnome-alsamixer doesn't even show the headphone option. View 1 Replies View RelatedEverytime I boot Ubuntu 9.10 system there is no start-up sound. A check of the sound settings under the system/preferences showes the sound muted checkbox is checked. I can uncheck it and listen music, etc. normally the rest of the session but on a reboot it is muted again.
View 1 Replies View RelatedPC seems to run fine in single channel mode but monitor reports no input in dual channel mode and memtest86+ lists from 1-3 errors per pass in single channel mode. Motherboard (Gigabyte P43T-ES3G) can't be set for the 1.65 volts required by the RAM (2x2 of OCZ3P1333LV4GK PC3 10666). The mobo voltage choices are 1.6 or 1.7 volts. I have tried both and increased the MCH voltage from 1.1 v to 1.2 v, but so far can't get it to run in dual channel mode at all and single channel mode seems to run fine but I still get errors in memtest86+. Also tried optimized Bios settings and loosened memory timings (from 7-7-7-16 to 8-8-8-27 and tRFC 60 to 70) and reset Command Rate from 0 to 2. CPU is Core 2 Quad @ 2.4 Ghz, PSU is rated at 400 watts, Video card is Gigabyte GT220.

When I try to use airplay-ng for the packet injection, it always gives me the error " wlan0 is on channel -1, but the AP uses channel 6". I've tried setting wlan0 to channel 6 manually, but that doesn't help. I spent a while searching for a solution, but it seemed like each page had a different, usually highly complex solution, that still doesn't work. I have the most recent drivers for my wireless card, and it meets all the requirements. So, is there any solution to this that will actually work?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI had to replace the motherboard, processor, memory on a machine because the old motherboard died. It worked fine under the old board but the new board (Gigabyte 880GA-UD3H) is causing Fedora 11 (and the Fedora 14 Live CD) to fail when initializing an Adaptec AHA-3940UW SCSI adapter.
I was able to display the boot messages and found that the first channel on the adapter is fine, but the second channel causes the boot to hang. The messages are:

Every time I boot into my laptop, there is no sound. Going to alsamixer in a terminal shows that the "Speaker" volume is constantly getting reset to 0, and bringing it back up fixes the problem. How can I get Alsa to remember to keep the speaker volume above 0?

my usb speaker has volume control-up/down, mute, that seems to work, just no sound coming out of it. I am running Squeeze 6.01, kernel 2.6.32-5-686 Also I have 2 computers with squeeze 6.01 installed, both doesnt output usb sound, but the speaker works fine with winXp and ubuntu.
Recently I have been trying out quassel, while its a good IRC client security-wise it does fail in one crucial aspect which is the GUI which needs a lot of polish. A
Anyways, this is my setup. I am usually on two networks irc.freenode.org and irc.oftc.net and have number of channels which I want to autojoin and also later be able to add channels to the list.
Let's say the chat list name is DebianIRC (which is the default chat list). Does anybody know how can I do both/either of the things. So things to be done are :-
a. As far as I understand quassel ONLY lets one chat list be from the first network. I haven't been able to figure out how to add the second networks channels to the list while doing the initial setup.
b. How to later add channels from either or even a new networks (quassel calls IRC domain servers such as irc.freenode.org/irc.oftc.net as networks) to an existing list . For an example if the list is named as DebianIRC.
c. Also does somebody know where the logs are kept and any tricks/tips people do with the logs. By default I want logging on and on some channels more intensive logging than others.
I was trying to make my surround sound work and screwed things up. Anyways, one of them is the one with the vertical slider and the other one is the one with the horizontal slider. I want to get rid of the one with the vertical slider. How do I do this? (The one with the vertical slider is in the part where the "tray-ed" programs go). When I use my keyboard volume up and volume down buttons, I notice that the two controls respond APPROXIMATELY the same where one is slightly ahead of the other. If more information is needed, just ask.

I added 'testing' channel into my wheezy 'stable' box and installed packages comes from 'testing'. In this case, if I changed my mind to go back to 'stable', how could I downgrade packages updated by 'testing' channel?

The (3.5mm)audio jack is working fine and I can play audio through it. I have also installed Linux mint, but no audio(in speaker and audio jack). There is no such problem in Windows7.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have got a Creative X-fi gamer card. I have Creative 4.1 speakers. One of the front speaker doesn't work and I use one front and two rear and of course one subwoofer.
In Gnome, it works after I do few commands and all is well. But, in any other desktop environment only the front one speaker works and the rear two don't. Neither in KDE nor in XFCE or LXDE.
I am tearing my hairs on this. And it is indeed the same with other distributions.
Is it because now it has become actually 3.1 and channelling is not happening. But in Gnome they work.
I am using Dell Vostro 1520 with Debian Lenny installed. My problem is that I am getting sound through both my headphone and laptop speakers. But it works fine in Windows XP.

Just installed sid on a new system and I'm having a problem with pulseaudio.I have a motherboard with built-in Realtek audio, and the system should use that for everything except the system bell, which goes through the internal PC speaker that's connected to the motherboard.It works that way on the console. If I type C-g in Emacs, the pc speaker beeps, same with bash completion etc, while aplay will play wav files through the external speakers connected to the sound card. It's perfect.
Now in X, pulse doesn't know what to do. It defaults to the external sound card speakers, so they play all "normal" sounds (like music files) but when I type C-g in Emacs, there's a drip sound that comes out of the speakers. The internal PC speaker doesn't beep at all.I'm using GNOME 3, and I like it, so I can't just purge pulse because it wants to take GNOME with it. If I go to setup > sound, "Line Out - Built-in Audio" is selected, but I have another option for "Analog Output - pcsp" ... that's the snd_pcsp module for the internal speaker. If I select that, it plays the same sound files but through the internal speaker. So when I do C-g in emacs, the beep does come from the internal speaker, but it's not the normal beep you hear in the console -- it's actually the same ogg (or wav or whatever) file that makes the drip sound from the speakers! And worse, if I sleect the pcsp option in setup, it uses the internal speaker for EVERYTHING - including playing audio music files, watching YouTube, whatever! And naturally the sound is very horrible and fuzzy.
Is there any way to tell pulse that I want to use my motherboard's soundcard for everything but the beep, just like in the console?
We have a SuSE/SLES 9 server that boots from a fibre channel card, using volumes from a NetApp filer.
We previously had the server booting from the LUNs on the filer, but after some tinkering around with the fibre channel BIOS, we have the situation where the LUNS seem to be mounted, the OS boots, starts to initialise everything but then stalls, saying:

I've been running Debian for a while, and now have the chance to do some enterprise-level experimentation. I stumbled across a very cheap EMC Clariion CX300 fibre RAID unit on eBay with 10 disks (£90!), so I snapped it up with a fibre HBA. It's not a SAN, technically a DAS in its current configuration. I'd like to know how hard it is to set up one of these as an actual disk device in Debian.I tried installing the HBA (an Agilent Tachyon XL2 PCI-X card, 32 and 64-bit modes) in my current 'live' server (a Celeron 1.2GHz-based machine), but while Debian detected it as a FC controller card, mapping the LUNs within Navisphere on the CX to the host caused nothing (obvious) to show up in the OS. From what I've read about setting up SANs (not DASs, there seems to be precious little info on setting up these), there's firmware involved with the card, and there are no references to getting a Tachyon running under Linux.
I also snagged a good deal on a PowerEdge 1850 server, but as it's the PCI-Express version, the Tachyon won't fit, so I'm considering buying a PCI-E HBA. I found a QLogic QLE2460 for a good price, but I'm hesitant to buy it, in case I still can't get Debian to see the disks. I'd most like to have the device connected to the PowerEdge instead of the Celeron machine. Have I missed a step in the configuration, or is there anything I can do to test if the system is working as it should be? The units we use at work are much simpler: set the RAIDs up, map the host LUNs and the disk shows up in Windows. I'm also sure I've set everything up correctly on the CX, as the same LUN is available to Windows. I'm running squeeze (last updated today), and everything has been working great. There is only thing that would simplify my life minutely..Anybody know how can I have the volume buttons on my laptop change the "pcm" channel volume rather than "master"? If they could control pcm, then I could adjust the volume coming out of my headphones or my computer speaker (both controlled by pcm, but not master...seems strange to me) with just one click.I tried to find this info online, but all results seem to refer to an older version. The simple "click here, set this" solution no longer is possible.

I am been using Fedora 14 on my HP mini for a few weeks now. Everything was working fine. However, since I have updated my system a few time using yum upgrade. I can no longer get the sound working.
If I go to Menu | multimedia | pulseaudio sound control
All the volumes levels are at 100%. However, the mute button is muted and everything I press it, it remains muted.
i can play a dvd or play a film from my hard drive , my media player can playmp3but i just have no sound ..i have made sure nothing is muted ...suse linux 11.2 kde 4.3.5
