I am having trouble setting up my pci wireless card. Bellow are some steps I have taken.
I followed this guide. I started out by installing wireless-tools.

I am trying to set up the wireless with the latest version of Ubuntu. I can connect to the internet with the ethernet but wireless connections do not even show up. My wireless card is a Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN and perhaps that is the problem. I am not sure if that will work. I am also using VMware and perhaps it just doesn't work with VMware.
When I type in iwlist scan it just comes up with: lo interface does not support scanning and eth0 interface does not support scanning. When I search for available drivers it says no proprietary drivers are in use on this system. Then it has VMware virtual ethernet driver and VMware virtual machine communication interface.
I have a local 3G data card which i need to set up on each boot using terminal. I have searched a HELL LOT and found a way to do it. The following are the commands to be run :

I just installed Fedora again, after a long absence. I have been using XP. I am having issues setting up my wireless card Linksys WMP54G. For some reason the card has been recognized, and the interface is there. But I have tried every walk-trough known to Google, and it still won't work. I have been using the GUI tools, but they don't work. I have also been using the command line walk through, and they aren't working either. Does anyone know which files I need to set and what the process would be?

Sprint has a guide: "Wireless Mobile Broadband Setup Guide for Linux OS" that I am using to setup the air card. When I go through the procedure in the manual for "Setting Up PPP Using KPPP" the last task is to query the modem to see if Linux recognizes it. When I do the query I get a response "unable to open modem". I have tried going back through the PPP setup but still get the same response.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased the Linksys WMP45G wireless card for my desktop (as my router is too far for ethernet cable). I can't get it to work. The NetworkManager icon doesn't appear in the upper-right corner, despite being up-and-running. Here is some output:

I just got myself a Dell Inspiron 1440. And decided to install my favorite distro Debian. I got the installation to go with no issue and all seems to be working fine. However the wireless isn't working. NetworkManager doesnt even detect a wireless card. I followed the instructions here and installed the b43-fwcutter and then issued the modprobe b43 and modprobe b43legacy commands. Then I issued the iwconfig command and this was the output.

Also, I've been doing some research and found out about some file located /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules. So I looked in mine and found out that only my eth0 is added.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI currently know next to nothing about networks in Linux (yes I am working on that). I have just brought a Asus n13 wireless adapter after failing to get my laptop wireless working. I am using the 2.6.32-5 Debian squeeze kernel. The device connected once after I did the following:
apt-get update
modprobe rt2870sta
iwconfig
ifconfig wlan0 up
The device connected to wifi and was working fine. I then shutdown and rebooted to see if it would automatically connect on start up and now, although nothing seems to have changed and even after I repeated the steps above it did not connect. The network manager applet as well as listing the asus adapter(as ralink 802.11 WLAN) lists a Texas instruments PCI1410 pc card cardbus controller which i didn't before.

I'm trying to setup the wireless in the debian lxde livecd but I'm not seeing how it is done.
I've searched a bit and found this page [URL] , which says to use the wicd program, but since I don't have internet there, I can't install the program!
I have a problem activating the hotspot on my debian 8. The issue is that I can't activate the hotspot to give other devices wifi connection.
I have the correct driver packages from the non-free repositories (firmware-realtek) and this service (hotspot) worked fine on distros like Ubuntu, Mint and Fedora .
I tried hostapd but it didn't work. I'm using cinnamon desktop.
I am still a noob with linux and debian in particular. I do some android development so through that I have learned a little bit about linux but only the basic command prompt commands and the basics of how linux works and such.Anyways, I was looking around on the forum and on other forums and I couldn't find any helpful information about how to set up wireless connections (such as wifi) on debian. When I installed debian on my computer it asked me for the ipw2200 files and I didn't have them at the time but now I have the latest framework files for that, I don't really know how to install them and after I install them I don't know how to turn on my wireless connections from there.

I decided to start of with Debian. I'm having trouble getting my wireless connection to work. I think i need drivers or something, i can't make a wireless connection. And it is a bit difficult for me, as i am new to Linux, and I'm not sure what I'm doing when i am writing these commands.

I have been using Raspberry PI a little, so i am familiar with the terminal.
I have a DELL Vostro 1500 and I have Debian Lenny running on it. I did get the wireless card BCM4312 working but after doing apt-get update followed by apt-get upgrade and after rebooting it stopped working. I am including the output from iwconfig, ifconfig and lsmod.

How do i get debian to recognize my wireless card? i have one built right into my laptop

I'm having trouble getting my wireless card (RNX-G300LX, from Rosewill) working with my Debian install. I had it working at one point in time, but (apparently) something has gone wrong, as it no longer connects. The network I'm trying to connect to uses WPA2. When I try to start up my wireless card as follows:

I should also note that running wpa_cli -i wlan0 tells me that it is "trying to associate" with my router, but authentication times out each time.
Since few days, I have a problem with my wireless card on some access points. For example I try to connect on WPA2/PSK AP and there are 7/8sec between dhcp discover and dhcp offer. After getting an ip address, ping between my laptop and AP is ~100ms.. AP is near 1m. When trying to ping google.com, 80% packets lost and latency is ~ 400ms.

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 that has a Broadcom BCM4312 wireless card installed. I do not have access to a wired connection to the web so any thing I have to install is a download on my windows machine and then transfer that to the debian machine. I just finished installing Debian Squeeze but can not get my wireless card to scan for any networks. I found a tutorial at [URL] and followed the steps there. Finding all the dependances and installing them one by one (took me all day). My wireless card still will not scan for networks. After doing a 'sudo ifconfig eth1 up' it still will not scan for networks.

How do I get around this? It wants to get something from [URL] and I do not have internet access. It looks to me like it just wants to download the wl dirver, again, which I have done in the previous instructions I found. I am a retired UNIX (hp-unix) administrator so I know my way around the system.
I use Debian Stretch and I've installed it twice with the same ISO on the same laptop. First just to test a few things, then freshly installed it again.
The first time the wireless card was named wlan0 (as always for me, I've never had another name), the second time though it was suddenly named wlp3s0.
How did this occur and may I change it back to wlan0?
A couple of days ago I asked why my pc changes the wireless card name.It switches between AR9285 ( right) and AR5008 ( wrong). Well, it is not the case. When system identified with AR9285,it loads ath9k and I can connect to the router. When system identifies my card as AR5008, no kernel module is present at all ( lspci -k). The wrong card name occurs only when system rebooted. If I gracefully shut down the system, it always comes up with a right name for the card( AR9285). So, how to force the system identify my card right no matter if I reboot or shut down?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install the driver for mi wireless card. The instructions say that to build the tar.gz file, I have to:

The third step i don't understand. I want the folder of the driver to be located in a folder inside home called "Programas" so what I did was to open the terminal, went su, and then did cd Programas. Then I followed instructions 1 and 2, but I don't know what to put where it says <path>.
I am currently trying to connect to internet through my wireless card, after half day's effort I reached to this point:

I found a solution from Intel website saying that the problem might be: "firmware in wrong location or wrong firmware version". So I proceeded to download the firmware and placed it in /lib/firmware. Also I tried to use menuconfig to enable loading firmware via hot-plug, but I think I have done something wrong when I was configuring the hotplug and firmware.
I just installed fresh Squeeze to my new hpmini 210-1100 netbook. No wireless. I have checked and I have Network Manager installed already.
I also compiled and installed Broadcom driver from here[url]
I followed their instructions and compiled the driver. I did get a wl.ko driver and installed it insmod wl.ko after modprobe lib80211
I noticed after rebooting neither wl.ko nor lib80211 showed when i did lsmod. So I did modprobe and insmod again. Still no wireless. Here are output of some commands that I thought would be relevant.
lspci:
I see only 2 computer icon in the system tray but not the parallel bars. When I went to System>Administration>Network, I was not able to add my wireless network name. The Add button was grayed out.
I just joined this forum in hope of fixing my linksys wireless card, here is my problem. I have a old Compaq presario 1710sb laptop with a p1 32mb ram and a 2GB hard drive. I installed a Debian Lenny command line only install, I installed ndiswrapper from a etch .deb file I found on the internet but I can't find out how to get it working. I tried how tos on other sites but they didn't work, I need to get that card working before I can install a GUI.

I'm apparently running a testing version of squeeze (I was running lenny I thought too many updates?). Anyway, I've been trying various things all night to try to get my wireless card to work. The system tells me I have a Broadcom BCM4318. When I run dmesg I get this:

Over and over. When I head to the website, it tells me to run b43-fwcutter. I've tried installing that and it says it installs fine but nothing ever changes. Everything I've found says that should work so I can't really find any suggestions for what to do if it doesn't.
I'm running Debian Lenny. I want to get a wireless card working. Spent ages trying to get my betgear WG111T wireless dongle to work with ndiswrapper with no luck so I'm going to fork out for a wireless card. I've googled extensively but haven't really found a satisfactory answer. Is there a wireless card/chipset that I can count on working fairly easily or even better out of the box with Lenny?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Debian after I became fed up with Ubuntu. I'm trying to get my wireless card to work so I can move my computer back to it's proper place. Right now I have to put it right next to the router so the Ethernet cable can reach. Anyways, I've had trouble with this card before, so I did a quick google search. I found this: [URL]. I followed the instructions, and the thing at the top of the panel shows a list of wireless networks. When I try to connect to mine, it asks me for authentication. When I give it authentication, it idles for a while before asking me again.

i just installed debian after about 2 weeks of using ubuntu afterriend suggested switching, and it's not detecting my wireless card in the network settings. i'm new at linux so try to keep it simple if you can please,i read the sticky about this and here's the info it said i should provide

you may download the driver and install it yourself; once you've succeeded, I am a one-time Linux convert and quitter that gave up on Linux a long time ago, because frankly it is too complicated and I'm just a user who needs to get things done today, not in the few weeks time it takes to figure these things out. Since Debian Squeeze got released I wanna test it out, but my PCI card, ASUS PCE-N13 needs to be set up.
